    Great balanced review, demonstrated by an obvious real world experienced c172 Pilot, while flying in a very realistic way.
    A few points, that may not have been emphasized enough in the Mods documentation, but were hinted at, and left for the pilot to discover.
    (1) Flight Model IS quite heavily updated.
    (2) Instruments are simulated very realistically now, following almost exactly the full manufacturers spec.
    ie
    (a) Clock has all the time count up. down function, EXACTLY as per manufacturer's manual
    (b) ADF has correct up/down counters with alarms
    (3) Instruments are analogue/mechanical, not digital, and their needs vibrate according to engine rpm etc.
    (4) Electrical system is 100% rewired form the original Asobo, to be exactly as in the POH - service manuals,
    ie Ammeter does NOT show started motor current, but does show starter relay current.
    (5) Battery (a major plane resource) is accurately simulated, with variable "battery Internal Resistance" as function of charge temperature & age. This results in appropriate battery voltage drop on high loads, with effects like lights dimming when high current starter motor is run.
    (6) Full hardware cockpit compatible with addon hardware instruments software gauges,
    This plane is purposely NOT called Study Level, but an Enhancement - depending on what is meant by Study level, there are no true Study level planes in MSFS !!
    Inspired by this video, maybe in the next update, the Developers will include addition information, Title "SPOILER ALERT", for those do not desire to discover themselves, true level of the realism of this enhancement,
    N6722c ( WB-Sim development team)

      Thank you very much for the kind words, N6722C and indeed the information! I glad you felt that the review was balanced and realistic - that is always my aim.
      I like the idea of leaving a few surprises for the customer but, if I may, I definitely think it’s worth emphasising the flight model updates. Those changes weren’t apparent to me when reading the product info / documentation but, are a huge selling point for the addon!
      Either way, congrats on your work! Yourself and the team have done an excellent job with the enhancement - I really enjoyed it : )
      Cheers and all the best!

    The creator of the sound pack was very helpful when I had an issue. I bought the WB sim 172 enhancement from JF and then purchased the Boris audio works from the MSFS market place. I later found out this combination doesn't work for the new sounds to work on the WB sim version of the aircraft or at least it didn't then. Sound Creator fixed this for me with a working version so was grateful to them. Sounds are really good easily the best I have heard within the sim and the WB sim enhancement really makes flying the 172 more interesting with the save state.

    As someone who is (trying to) learn to fly in Sim, I really appreciate your taking the time and effort to make this video. It's a boon to my learning. I enjoy the vids on more advanced aircraft but competent flying of them is still a ways in the distance. Anything that increases the fun of flying the simpler GA aircraft is a great find, thanks for your revealing such to us. (Also appreciate your choices of interesting airfields, trips, etc. And your overall articulate and literary presence, a welcome change from the ho/ha of some other channels. Just IMHO) Did I forget to mention excellent choices of music, nice touches like the atc background, external shots/reprises of takeoffs and landing, and I'm certain I have forgotten some other elements that I appreciate. Thanks!!!

      Hello Dave,
      Thanks very much, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
      You can actually use pretty much any C172 repaint (default or otherwise) with the WB Sim version, although it does take a little bit of tweaking to get them working properly. The easiest / “cheat” way, is to download a WB Sim compatible repaint, then download the repaint that you actually want, simply swap the desired repaint textures into the WB Sim repaint file and then drop the modified WB Sim repaint file into your Community folder.
      I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )

    Thank-you so much for this demonstration of the “WB Sim Enhancement” with the “Boris Audio Works Soundpack”. This is again your Stateside sports fan, Guerry. I think you did a great job of demonstrating the features of these addons. In light of several comments I’ve read so far, and this is by no means is a criticism, I think there is a saliently positive aspect to this addon.
    If you are one who loves the Cessna 172, I believe you will truly enjoy this addon. You should seriously consider purchasing it, but do not act impulsively. There will be other hosts with their reviews of the product. Before making your final decision to buy, I highly recommed viewing their evaluations. Again, this is something truly worth your time to investigate if you find the Cessna 172 your choice aircraft.
    Personally, I am not a fan of the 172 for other than it being a tool for the interim step between the Cessna 152 and purchasing a complex/high performance aircraft. The Cessna 172 is perfect for developing one’s instrument skills once the 152 is mastered. I made the decision to transition from the 152 to the Carenado Cessna 182 RG for several reasons. Chiefly, it was so I wasn’t spending all day to fly a fraction of the distance that I would in the 172. Consequently, once mastering my flying skills with the 152, it was time to work on more demanding VFR and IFR procedures. So no matter how aesthetically pleasing this addon might be, I cannot fathom investing in something that is essentially a ladder rung for further developing my MSFS experience.
    Rather than having developed the enhancements for the 172, I really wish WB Sim would have put its effort into a Carenado and/or other company’s addon product. WB Sim did a phenomenal job on the 172, and for that I praise it. I mention Carenado due to it being among the best for recreating accuracy in visual modeling. But in all fairness. I do not consider Carenado the best for other functionality. But, it is good enough for my purposes.
    I leave you with this: If you are one who loves the Cessna 172, then go for it brother/sister! Buy this addon and deeply immerse yourself into your flights to a degree not currently available with the MSFS standalone. We are all here to have fun!
    Again, thank-you ITB staff for producing your video review. Please, keep churning your succinct yet informative reviews out!

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 8 měsíci

      Thank you very much once again, Guerry!
      Valid advice, undoubtedly. Although, I can’t believe you might suggest that my opinion isn’t the “be all and end all”, when it comes to flight simulation : P
      WB Sim have done a great job with the C172 and (in case you weren’t aware) also offer up a similar upgrade for the C152 (I know that was your airframe of choice, at least until recently). I am very much hoping that WB Sim, or someone else, will attempt the same thing with some of the Carenado products; as you say, Carenado’s beautiful aircraft seem like obvious candidates.
      Thanks again for the kind words and I shall be sure to thank my staff (if my daughter, popping in every now and then with a new collection of toys for daddy, counts as “staff” ; )

    I think the initial rough running was because you didn't lean the engine on the ground. These fuel injected IO360s don't like to be run rich on the ground, with the mixture lever left in.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 6 měsíci

      Quite possibly Arthur; I’ve never flown a fuel-injected aircraft (well, maybe once, now that I think about it haha) and I’ve never operated far from sea level so, leaning on the ground was never really a part of my operation (at least with any of the flight schools that I trained at). I tend not to do things in the sim, that stray from what I have done in the real-world but, it’s great to see that WBSim have modelled the engine to such a degree!

    Great review as usual. But I have this mod and there is a very important feature that you didn't cover and that's the settings hidden in the ADF.. realism setting.. static features like chocks and tie downs are all accessed via this ADF.. also there is a significant bug in the 530/430 and radios you have to install the PMS50 and the patch which is provided in the zip folder.. I will say the flight model improvement alone is worth the purchase but the Auto pilot has a few bugs and your sorta limited to their liveries but it's a fun GA still..

      Actually, I did cover the hidden ADF menu options hehe (on the way back towards Fall City). I didn’t spot the bug with the 530/430 but thanks very much for the info, I will give the fix a go.
      It’s funny, I saw no mention of any flight model improvements on the sales page, but it seems that the flight model has indeed seen some work (I would have thought that was a prime selling point!). Re the liveries, you can actually use any C172 repaint from Flightsim.to etc, with a little bit of tweaking (it can be a little bit fiddly, but the livery I used in this video, was not intended for use with the WB Sim mod).

    Actually the flight model is tweaked from the default. It was not at release due to file encryption, but 1.05 added flight model tweaks to the list of changes. Exactly what WB would have to comment. I would also add the JPL C152 from revisions 2.xx was taken over I believe by WB, so same modder, but free.

    I just noticed that the FS 172, even though a 172S, has the older styled McCauley Wheel assemblies opposed to the Cleveland Wheel assembly. (noted by the "spoked" design of the McCauley wheel, opposed to the smooth of the Cleveland. Thank you for indulging my spreading this useless fact. :P Well, your shelter hanger is now nice and clean :D Wow! That engine was surging, at least in the exterior view. The interior sound is at least to me not right at all. It seems they recorded mostly the buzz of the propeller, but in the 172 you can hear the exhaust note, along with the valve train, especially at low to idle power. This sound pack seems to lack that, or at least how this recording came out on my system. Yea, there is definitely a lack of exhaust not, or the very rapid "puff" of the exhaust. The pre stall sounds are actually really good, though the stall horn is lacking. (The cessna stall horn I liken to the sound a cat makes when squeezed :P). Mind you though I fly with old David Clark headsets, so this may be simulation with noise cancelling headphones. (looking at the other comments I am thinking the sound issues for me are indeed my sound system, which would be no surprise.) The wheel bearing sound on roll out is a nice touch.

      Hi Pythos,
      I shall have to take your word for it, haha : P
      It is worth noting that unfortunately, my replay tool did cause some peculiarities with the sounds, though only externally (hence the “surging”). The interior sounds whilst not perfect, certainly brought back a few memories for me (though granted, it’s been many, many years since I last flew a C172 haha). I guess sound recording and perhaps even more so soundpack creation, are a bit of a black art ; )

    I don't know what to make of sound packs for GA planes. Back 40-odd years ago when I was doing my PPL, we didn't have headsets. We had a single mic/speaker on a cord which was hung on the panel unless you were talking. ALL you could hear once you started the engine WAS the engine and it was so loud that you had to shout to be heard by the guy with whom you were bumping elbows. So no switch sounds, no wheel rolling sounds, etc. Just the engine, the radio (often barely heard), the stall horn, and the control rods clattering in pre-stall buffeting (the latter 2 probably only because you were at low power at the time). Nowadays, everybody's got noise-canceling headsets so you hear NOTHING at all unless somebody's talking on the radio or intercom using an "inside" voice. The ONLY planes in my experience where you can hear every sound made by every switch and part of the plane are gliders, and you can use your "inside" voice in them without needing a headset.

      Hi Bullethead,
      As with many things sim-related, the conundrum you mention tends to divide people haha. Personally, I’ve always preferred soundpacks that lean more towards “immersion”, rather than accuracy. For example, I’d rather hear the afterburner kick in, or the switch click, because both of those events would give the pilot some sort of feedback. Since there are a lot of sensations that we can’t replicate in the sim, sounds tends to be the next best things (and can be used to trick one’s brain into “feeling” something, at least to some degree). That’s my take on it anyway. . .
      I hope you’re keeping well. All the best!

    • @TheBullethead
      @TheBullethead Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations Agreed. In some cases, using sound as a substitute for touch is useful user feedback to let you know what you were trying to do actually registered with the game. Especially for things you can't see out the window or on displays.
      There are also some sounds which should be there in most planes but usually ain't. Such as the sound of ice being slung off props into the fuselage side. I've only ever heard this in the Trislander and it really gets your attention :)

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi PlaneGuy,
      Thanks very much, I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
      The livery is free and available over on Flightsim.to (just search the registration and you should find it easily enough). This particular livery, is not natively compatible with the WB Sim mod however so, you would need to convert it (there are tutorials available regarding how to do this - I believe the product manual perhaps outlines the process also). If memory serves me correctly, the black cockpit colouring, is included as part of the WB Sim mod : )

      I’m afraid, I’m not quite sure what you’re getting at with the first half of your comment? As to the 2nd part; yes, you would need to power up the avionics, in order to change the aircraft’s configuration (not an ideal way of implementing such a system - a checklist or EFB would have been better).

      Hmm, that’s interesting Gabor; I don’t recall having similar issues with the default C172 (to be fair, I hadn’t flown it in a long while, so perhaps something got messed up after a sim update?). Nothing seemed untoward with the aircraft / WB Sim mod; as you can see during the video, I was able to get the aircraft turned around in some reasonably tight manoeuvring areas (though I didn’t try turning at higher speeds, in fairness).
      I can do a little bit of further testing, if it’s of use / you’re considering picking up the mod?

      Well, yes and no haha. MSFS’s AI groundcrew, are forever walking through the prop arc (and various other parts of the aircraft). Of course, giving them a “shout” isn’t going to achieve anything, but I suppose it still pays to check, if one really wants to be “realistic”. • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před měsícem

      Hi Leif,
      Well, many payware addons offer a lot more complexity that some of MSFS’ default offerings (something that a lot of simmers are looking for). Personally, I would say that it’s only a “waste”, if the addon isn’t bringing the user enjoyment. Further to that, Asobo has confirmed that any addon sold through the in-sim Marketplace, will continue to be compatible with MSFS 2024 so, newer purchases *should* still generally have a lot of longevity (only time will tell, whether or not Asobo’s statement turns out to be true).
      To each his own, of course and the base version of MSFS does certainly have a lot to offer.
      Happy flying and all the best!
