I was on FOB Marez in Kabul in 2004. One day I was running security at our Bravo gate and some guy carrying a M1911 came by waiting for a convoy of Iraqi National Guard soldiers to come in. We started talking and when he realized we were Guard he asked what I did on the civilian side. I told him I ran a commercial indoor shooting range and he, being a SF Weapons Sergeant talked guns and training a bit. In that discussion he said he had twice missed the opportunity to train with Todd Jarrett due to schools or deployments. When I told him Todd occasionally shot our Monday night match at the range I ran he geeked out a bit and I confirmed for him that Todd is as nice a guy as he'd heard and a very capable instructor.

Idk if I should mention the name but I hired a high level competitor for 1on1 pistol and he told me that he gets hired by a lot of SOF units, and he's just one cog in their machine. They hire a fuck ton of professionals in every area, and learn from all of them.
Idk how much of that is true, but it makes sense. You hire a guy who is great with pidtols but can't shoot anything else. Then you hire the rifle guy. Then the shotgun guy. Then the 2 gun comp guy. Then the 3 gunner.
Everyone is going to have their unique ways of teaching the same info, but the student has to sift through and figure out what works for him and what doesn't. But still try everything learned.
