When I put elastic into a casing, I mark my overlap spot on the elastic, but I don't cut it. After I push the elastic through the casing, I have a long piece of elastic hanging out, no worries that it will get lost in the casing. Then I gather the fabric over the elastic and find the overlap mark. I sew the two ends together before I cut the elastic off.
I find it works best for me this way. Maybe it will help someone else, too.
Thanks for this tutorial. These would be good for raising bread dough in a bowl, too.

    SUGGESTION ONLY:
Pin the starting end of the bias tape to an ironing board (Example) then you can iron along as the material goes thru the bias maker. That way it won't move while you're ironing the bias and is much faster and easier to do. 😊

Store bought bias is usually not exactly folded in half. Put the slightly wider side under the edge so you can sew near the edge of the part on top and catch the wider underside.

My first Selena she was from Seers and I still have it and I haven’t used in the forever because it kept making birds nests and getting all tangled up. Seers finally gave up trying to fix it and gave me a coupon for a new one. I need to Seers as well. But I was trying to get out was it said you could sew over pins with it I never broke a pin but just I did bend a few. But it did miss up some needles when I did that.

I feel a need to address a comment regarding not using bias tape. I am curious how you would apply the elastic to the fabric?
I’m a seasoned crafter/quilter/garment seamstress and I’m curious because I can’t think of a better way. I’m kind of old though and maybe I’m just forgetting something.
I hope this doesn’t sound snarky because it’s not meant to be.

It’s a great question! You can fold the hem in at 1/4 inch around the circle and press and then turn in another 1/2 inch around the circle and press. The reason I chose the bias tape method is that it could be argued that trying to hem a circle as a beginner sewist can be just as challenging if not harder than using bias tape which naturally arcs with your fabric. There’s a million ways to do things when it comes to sewing and I always appreciate people like you who use kindness and genuine curiosity in their tone when asking questions or commenting. Thanks for being you! ❤❤ Happy Sewing! 🎉

@@shesewsseams I think the nicest, most professional way is with the bias tape. For me fiddling about with seams on a circle just isn’t worth the effort. I’ve done it, but my arthritic fingers just don’t want to do it that way!🤪
