LMAO my family owns a home that is 100+ years old and belonged to a Métis politican. The thing is literally filled to the brim with historical items because my Grandfather is a historian. Heck we even own a WW2 canon that was actually used in the war right beside the house, I climbed on it. The house has a certificate, blah, blah, blah. Their farm was like my second home growing up and I spent so much time in that house (which is a B&B now). The only scary thing about that house is the freaking stairs cuz they small and narrow as heck. I swear I have almost fallen down them over 10 times. And the basement... cuz you know... basements are creepy. That's just a fact.

That 'toy' blaring happy birthday is actually a candle. I know this incredibly well, because several years ago, my sister got one for her birthday cake because she saw it in the local carneceria and thought it'd be cool. It is at first, because each flower petal has a wick on it, and they all light as one, which then fly open and spins in the bloomed flower position as it starts playing Happy Birthday. Cool visual, neat afterimage effect, and it could potentially make you get the message across while not having to sing to your family member or friend if they prefer that.
Unfortunately, the batteries in the damned things are so ridiculously good that the candle did not, in fact, ever stop playing Happy Birthday around the clock for over three months, even when it was banished to the bushes outside in the hopes the rain would kill it. (It echoed too much in our trashcans to have it in them, the weather beating it to death was honestly the best bet.) It died in volume, but it was relentless even through rain, sleet, and several death glares every time I had to walk by the bushes it was yeeted to. In conclusion, I will always remember the ear grating tune that candle blasts until I'm old and senile.

I use to live in a brick house built in the late 1800's. Six months after I moved in, I was noticing that the air in the house was always thick and stale. As time went on I kept noticing more weird shit like scratches on all the walls, damage to the ceiling, cracks in the windows and electrical issues. My wife kept having violent nightmares that left her exhausted the next day. Our dog would, almost daily, shit and then drag his butt on every floor in the house. I can remember one time where we came home from a party and found that he had gotten into the attic and torn open the box of Christmas decorations. I know because as we opened the front door he was sitting there wearing some of them. And yes, he shat on those too. We were concerned and ended up giving him to the the kid across the street. But that didn't stop the strange events. It came to a boiling point the night both my wife and I woke up at like 2am from noise inside the house. We could hear that there was something shuffling around. So I walked out of the bedroom with my 12 gauge as quietly as I could. The adrenaline was pumping and I was shaking like a leaf. On the other side of the house in a small hallway, I could see something was there. As I got closer to a light switch I flicked it on only to reveal our dog standing in the hallway. Wearing every Christmas decoration we own, he slowly turned around and whispered "Merry Christmas". This was pretty alarming because dogs can't talk. What made it even weirder is I've never owned a dog or a house and I've never been married. After that, I sat up in my chair and vowed never to smoke weed ever again.

There was a hilarious Canadian “haunted house” show called like Paranormal Home Inspectors where a family would describe why they think their house is haunted, and then a professional home inspector comes in a basically debunks everything, from missing doors to loose writing to strange paintbrush patterns and incorrect type of paint causing an apparent “shadow shape” at the top of the stairs. He’s amazing. But they also have a “psychic” come through, then of course, the family often still chooses to believe something weird is going on in their home.

The camera was looking in weird directions to avoid seeing their buddy behind them. I’m sure the voice lazily drops at the end when the boiling water is thrown on it (and doesn’t screech like you think it would) because it would tick off their neighbors if the “ghost” started suddenly yelling loudly outside. I have to admit, Yama Q's video is most convincing. Firstly, he isn't constantly talking to the camera or audience, which I wouldn't do either if I were in some creepy situation. Secondly, he behaves more like someone trying to figure out what's going on, and investigating from different angles, or even putting an obstacle between himself and whatever strange thing is happening. Whether that's just good acting or not, I'm not sure, but if it's fake he does a WAY better job than ANY of the other vids we've been reviewing lately. Side note, I think it's hilarious the disembodied voice is trying to get Yama's attention by saying "oi, oi, oi" and then Nuke calls it a "blood-curdling wail" lol

The thing with these type of videos is you don't even need to set a thing like that up as it doesn't come across on camera anyway, you could just have a friend off camera wailing or knocking for the same effect making any practical special effect pointless. It would only work as a prank as like you said if you are there in person and it's set up to stop when someone opens the door or whatever.

You know what's fascinating to me? Good urban exploration channels go to places that are significantly scarier than anything featured in these videos- just take a look at The Proper People and the wacky places they go- and they never, ever encounter anything paranormal. Even the places with "unexplainable"-type noises are usually just brushed off as being wind, the building settling, or security. Nothing too bad, no attempt to scare you. The atmosphere created by these places is often enough to be scary, even in the middle of the day. It's super interesting that they don't need anything special to create tension in their videos.

    Story time:
I actually made a very convincing "ghost video" of my own a few years back. What I did was as follows:
I rehearsed a very basic "scene". This scene involved me filming with my phone, reacting to a knocking noise, getting up from my chair, walking up to the front door, and opening the door. Then, after I got comfortable rehearsing this scene, I would film it again in the exact same way, with the only difference being my boyfriend knocking on the front door from the other side. In post-production, I matched the audio of both clips as best I could, but used only the second clip's audio while showing the first one.
Edit: You could even mix and match the audio to taste for the best effect, but in my case I had rehearsed it near flawlessly so I didn't need to.
It was really simple, but I managed to freak out many of my peers for an entire week before confessing to them that I faked it.

Reminds me of this old photo I took at night of a helium balloon slowly floating across a dark room, backlit by a dim light from outside. I took it with my first ever crappy 2004 digital camera. I had little understanding of photography. It kept coming out black (of course) so I messed with the shutter speed and did my best to stand as still as a tripod, and it came out brighter, but my ceiling fan had blown the balloon across the window and it looked like a blurry black mass was blocking the window. I posted it without any context on my livejournal (really showing my age here) and a bunch of people were convinced it was a shadow figure lol.

I've used this same kind of technique in a video for an ARG/unfiction series I did a few years back! 😄 As long as both takes are filmed with the same camera/mic and you've got your timing at least somewhat rehearsed, it sounds super convincing edited together! 😊 And you can always cut the audio track up and make small adjustments to better fit the video. You'll still have the room noise from the video's audio so it doesn't sound jarring lol. 😋
I tried to explain this technique in a comment because I think that's what was done in all the videos for the "spooky bathroom/outside moaning ghost series" on entry 2, but I gave up because I had trouble explaining it without being too wordy. So, I'm glad someone was able to explain what I was having trouble describing lol. 😋

any video editing program will allow you to insert any noise you want over a video. you either place it over the original audio or remove the original audio altogether. you can add narration, music, noise of someone screeching, knocking noises, anything. any audio contained in these "ghost" videos are or could be added post production.
furthermore you're right. plumbing and heating ducts make all kinds of weird noises. in the house i grew up in our central air system made a noise like someone running up the stairs and tripping on the last step. it only made this noise once every few years. it was freaky but explainable.
there's only three types of "ghost" videos: 1) the producer admits he's simply making a fictional horror video, 2) someone captures a perfectly natural but unexplainable or misinterpreted occurrence on video, 3) intentional fraud. and the internet has helped proliferate fraud all over the world. THANKS INTERNET!

Scared me half to death, but then realized it was just my family's older cat Zeus. Turns out some cats can get dementia in their old age and will make that yowling sound when they don't know where they are or where anyone is.
(also i believe in ghosts and the paranormal due to personal experiences but I think they can tell if anyone is trying to record them, so they dont do anything then.
