ABOUT: My name is James Akers and I'm a practicing architect who also supported my family as a full-time renderer working in pencil and watercolor, up until the day that pencil and watercolor could no longer keep up with the pace of change in the modern digital office. So in 2015, I followed Tim Cook's lead, switched to Apple Pencil on iPad, and haven't looked back. Now, as UCLA professor of iPad Drawing and founder of the iPad for Architects CZcams channel, I split my time between teaching, rendering, design consulting, architect-ing, and my favorite of all: helping students rediscover the benefits of drawing-by-hand in the digital era through online courses in Procreate, Morpholio Trace and Sketchup for iPad.
As I am retired now I don’t do much on the computer but I continue to sketch daily. My Many years of training/working “on the board” enables me to be able to draw/sketch anything with ease. This is especially useful if in a discussion, I can quickly draw something to explain.
I pass the time sketching cars and other stuff on my Instagram channel
Fantastic to hear. Keep up the good work!
And I have not lost the art of hand lettering
@@charlie1872 I'm tryna hang on to that too. Are you a Francis Ching man, or some other mentor?

Always appreciate your comments Wrighthaus!
My clients love hand-drawn sketches, but they also appreciate the benefits of using AI as a tool.
It's a great combination! Are you using them together, or does this video perhaps inspire you to try?
hello im a interior designer who is starting to use ipad i would like to know which is reccomended size to get for ipad pro 11 or 13 inch . ill be going to sites and also using this device to present to my client on draft sketches if i need to be quick.
Another cooncern would be the current ipad can i import my skp sketchup file on laptop and open on ipad ver?
I can't speak for everyone but I have the 12.9" and there are many times where it seems so small. It takes some getting used to, really believing that the canvas you are working on is 11x17 or 18x24, when the screen is so small, so if you are going to do schematic design sets on your iPad, go big, but if you're just doing charming client sketches and portability is an issue, the 11 will serve you well. It all comes down to how big are the ultimate drawings you want to produce going to be? Good luck with your endeavors, and please keep commenting on the video!
Night person?
in what sense?
If you mean did you get a new puppy and have been getting no sleep and therefore make videos to keep from going insane...yes :)
as someone who draws tig ol anime bitties for a living this is hopeful news. I'm a new dad and my kid literally grew up drinking baby formula bought using money I earned solely from drawing anime mommy milkers. I wanna keep drawing so I can give my kid the best life possible.
And you shall sir. Don’t give it up. You are a great dad!
