Took my son to see the Scorpions in 2017 Santander in PA. And I asked Matthias for a guitar pick for my son, he gave me the pick and I handed it to my son and he gave me a great big hug, and I said to myself this is what it's all about. Thank You Matthias for the memory with my son and a night with the Scorpions. Your a great guy
Never realized those were 1976 explorers he custom painted. Makes sense, though. Can't believe how great his English is. Great guitarist and totally underrated.
One of the most underrated guitarists of his time, and one of the most musical. Choosing mood and feel over shred and musical gymnastics. His solo for "No One Like You" is legendary.
I totally agree I seen them in 82 for their Blackout tour great show

I've always been interested in Matthias' guitars. He got some great tones in the 80s, like on Animal Magnetism, Blackout and Love at First Sting. I loved this tone on "Bad Boys Running Wild". Always wondered if that was from a Bill Lawrence in the strat. Very cutting tone. It really had a "sting", no pun intended. Okay, pun intended.
I never thought of him using an BL. Now I'm curious.

Cool story re: the tape on his second guitar. I always thought it was striped to kind of go along with his striped outfits of the time.
MJ has always loved stripes and that story about the white Explorer is one of the great stories of his career! ha Never did he figure that putting those stripes on his 2nd Explorer would become very significant in his unique signature look, thus garnering such recognition from other rock stars. ;-P
Cristy Rawks That's a great story. He's been one of my favorite guitarists since like 81. I saw them back in like 82 I think it was. Iron Maiden opened for them on the 666 Number of the beast tour I think it was called, but I was right up front and was just blown away by his guitar work as well as Shenkers! Great guys and a great band! Great story too. Thanks so much.
Tim, my pleasure! They are planning their 2017 tour right now BUT are going into the studio again for an album release in 2018! Only band of their era who have never stopped touring or recording in 52 years! Wow!! Make sure you see them this year!! ;)
