Lived in Longford till I was 6 years old. Happy memories there. The town has really changed over the years. So much of the character has been lost and this video shows it well, with the multitude of generic retail units and multinationals. Not sure I would call this progress or if it is its the bargain basement equivalent.

The soul is gone. This is what has been traded away for promises of economic prosperity.

@@gumis123PL it's a dumping ground like ballyhaunis and not with engineers and doctor's.
I hear irish are minorities in some schools.

The canal shown is the one from the Royal canal to Longford town. It is not open that is why it is overgrown. The Royal canal which the shown canal joins runs from Dublin to the Shannon it full of water and navigable and runs a few km from longford town.

Yes I agree to. It's very confusing to understand the vicinity and townships, when you live abroad. I'm trying to find out the origins of a Celtic cross my mother inherited from her great-grandmother (Ellen Murtha co kildare) Her father William Murtha, Granard longford married Elizabeth Welsh 1835 Ellen married James Egan and they had 10 children born in a newly founded town named Killarney Australia . If anybody knows how to find out information about our ancestors, would love to hear from you thank you 😊5@@eileentreweek1799

Does anything ever happen in Longford? If it doesn't then I might be happy living there especially if it has a theatre and a swimming pool. Can you get to Dublin by train? Have all teenagers left?

@@HimachaliFamilyinIreland And hopefully there are no English Tories there. I hope that the teen-agers if there are any behave themselves and accept that they should be seen and not heard, as my father inculcated in me in the 1960s, just as his grandfather brought up in the 1860s, had inculcated in him. Long live Ireland!
