This is a bad idea. Still have to get emissions inspection. So this only allows junk on the road

Florida doesn't have a vehicle inspection but no Junk car on the road as you said!

@@user-zo5rq4wd5w The inspections only check the most basic stuff: Lights, blinkers, horn, etc. It does NOT apply to "mechanical" things.
The car's engine can be running on 5 cylinders, have a broken side-window, and the "low tire light" can be on... none of that matters.
As long as the basic "safety" equipment is functional, you're good-to-go.
So please define "junk" on the road...? 😂😂

The inspections are a hold-over from many years ago, when the Federal Gov't required all 50 states to conduct vehicle "safety" inspections in order to qualify for Federal highway funds.
This requirement was eliminated by the Fed many years ago, and while most states dropped the "safety" inspection requirements, a few have continued to this day... Texas being one of them.

Every state should have yearly inspections. They should be at a reasonable price, maybe even have it done by state employees, paid by taxes. I live in Michigan, and am a former mechanic. We don't have inspections, and I've seen hundreds of cars myself, that should not be on the road, but people turn down repairs, and keep driving.

Yeah, great idea. Let's charge even more taxes for something... and then have a "government employee" perform the task. What could possibly go wrong?
This, from a guy in the state that elected Gretchen Whitmer...
      Please stay in Michigan.

Youre still gonna have to inspect it to get it registered

It is a good thing no inspection as Florida doesn't have one, good for Texas!

The old mechanic (in the video) claims he makes $4000/mo. on inspections? I say bull$hit!
Even IF the shop kept the full $7 fee (which they don't - part goes to the State), that would be over 570 inspections per month, or more than 20 per day (6 days/week). Really? 😂😂
A couple of local shops I have spoken with say it's such a minor part of the business, it will really have no impact on their bottem-lines...

Usually there is a set fee by the state. Can't shop around for the cheapest, everyone is the same.

    • @Calico5string1962
      @Calico5string1962 Před 7 dny +1

No. The inspection costs $7 (out of pocket), plus thete is a $7 fee as part of the registration renewal itself.
An inspection shop can only charge the mandated fee of $7, no more, no less.
However, after the law goes into effect in 2025, the State will continue to collect the $7 reg fee.
