    Inspection in some way is needed and someway doesn't.
    Brake lights go out anytime not just that day of inspections. You as a driver must check your vehicle is in great condition. Once the dashboard lights up just take it to a shop and scan it.
    The inspection was mainly made for emissions. Now that I agree to have.

They stopped doing it in the early 80's and there hasn't been any detrimental effects of stopping them. They're a good idea in theory, but in practical application, they're a complete waste of time.

    I had a vehicle fail inspection in Texas for a "faulty" gas cap. I don't live in a county where emissions testing is required, so all I can assume is that the shop I went to regularly made some quick cash by threatening drivers with a failed inspection unless they wanted to go ahead and buy whatever upsell was being pushed at that time. In my case, they wanted $27.99 for the cap, plus a minimum of one hour labor to replace the cap. $90 labor to unscrew a gas cap and screw on a new one. I wasn't looking to get screwed that day, so I just said "Fail me. I'll go somewhere else from now on."

    • @desertsoldier41
      @desertsoldier41 Před rokem +2

      The reason they charge $90 for labor is because the CEL on your dash is a generic "Evaporative Emissions" code. In order to isolate whether the leak is in your cap, your Evap canister, purge valve and lines an hour of diagnostics time is needed. Simply replacing your cap might not fix the problem.

    • @lugwrenchknucklebuster5256
      @lugwrenchknucklebuster5256 Před rokem

      @@desertsoldier41 Thanks for the explanation. You are correct, and I would completely agree with all you said if the CEL had been on. In that instance, though, there was no light on. The vehicle was not even two years old. I remember the tech saying he had tested the gas cap on some type of machine. Whether this machine is real or not, I don't know. I do recognize that parts do fail, but I didn't believe that to be the case. It was just a dishonest attempt to fleece a customer by legalized extortion.

    • @desertsoldier41
      @desertsoldier41 Před rokem

      @@lugwrenchknucklebuster5256 The state machine has a tester, but it often pops false negatives. Again the only way to be sure is to do an EVAP test. It would be a good compromise to only have to do all emission, registration ect every 5 years instea dof annual, annual regustration ia very stupid MD allows to register for 10 years and VA for 3 and FL 2 , its should be 5 years to register?

    The "mechanics" doing these inspections are incompetent anyways. I brought a 72 plymouth in and they failed it for the ABS not operating. 😳🤔 ABS didnt exist in those cars.🙄 Took it across the street to another shop and they passed it and were just as surprised by the other shops lack of knowledge.

    People don’t car. Have you seen how May assholes are on the road. Front Windshield tinted so dark you need high beams to see, brake lights tinted black, blacked out lenses, bald tires, driving 80 plus on the spare donut, panels falling off, fake paper tags, no license plate on the front, rear plate covered, lights that don’t work.
    Law enforcement will use this as a reason to stop you for many things now. They can do roadside inspections at any time. Don’t think that diesels and late models will get passed by. No DPF on your diesel or no catalytic converter on your gas car will get you a ticket as fast as speeding will. Oh and let’s not forget how many people drive with no registration and this fake paper tags. Those paper tags go away forever in 2025, only real plates. Buy a new car, can’t drive it until your real tags come in. And no insurance. You know insurance agents report people who have insurance monthly, police license plate scanners search for license plates with no insurance just like repo tow trucks search for cars. So be responsible for your own stuff.
    Oh and if you are in an emissions county, you still have to get your vehicle inspected.
