  • "THE GREAT ESCAPE!" This is a Clip from the Movie "WINGED MIGRATION" (Le Peuple Migrateur, 2003) by Jacques Perrin. It shows a Hyacinth Macaw in the Amazon in Peru escaping from a Trapper's Boat (probably a staged scene -- powerful, nevertheless, in conveying the very real plight & suffering of these animals...).

Gorgeous photography. The first time I saw a macaw fly in person it actually brought a tear to my eye it was such a beautiful sight.

@fairfresh: This whole movie was staged, so the 'escaping macaw' was most likely a trained bird. Quite realistic tho and drives home the point of the plight of these magnificent animals -- all of them (not just the parrots that endure such untold suffering in the illegal trapping and selling trade at the hand of man).

I own this movie. Before saying it is staged or cameras were attached to a birds head to get the footage, please rent the movie and watch. It explains how it was filmed which is amazing and the years it took to do it. This is 90 minutes of the best of hundreds of hours of footage. It is an incredible film.

There is no excuse whatsoever for poachers and other exploiters of wild life to catch any companion parrots. Hyacinth Macaws are still endangered in the wild, which is so wrong when so many are homeless Hyacinths at parrot rescues just in the United States. If we all start adopting all the homeless birds in shelters and stop encouraging breeders and poachers by buying from them , there would be no demand. I have seen some of the horrible ways captive birds are bound together with hardly enough room to breath. They are transported under horrible conditions and many die because they were mangled during capture or can't survive the horrible shipping conditions. Why pay one of these crooks thousands of dollars for a Hyacinth Macaw when they can be adopted from a homeless parrot shelter for a few hundred dollars or less, saving their lives. The breeders should be contacting breeding programs designed to raise these beautiful birds to be released back into the wild. Haven't we driven enough beautiful birds into extinction? The beautiful Spix Macaw is completely extinct in the wild and the few people who own them as a status symbol will not loan them to the breeding programs trying to save them from total extinction. A much larger gene pool is need to give the Spix a chance, and their owners will not even consider a temporary loan into a breeding program to save these beautiful birds from extinction. We should capture a bunch of poachers and pack them up exactly like they do the birds they capture and then ship them off to prison. I wonder how many would die horrible deaths on the way to their destination like the poor birds they murder in their shipments? All the lovely native parrots attract thousands of people every year to visit South America so they can enjoy their beauty. Think of what this does for the tourist trade. If the poachers would take on jobs of guiding tourists to the places they can see these wonderful creatures in all their beauty, free to fly and breed and raise young they could boost their countries economies and have a job they could be proud of. Sorry for the rant, but when I see the horrible conditions these poor trapped bird are forced to endure, packed up like sardines in the cruelest, most abusive ways imaginable it sickens my heart.

I agree it was in all likelyhood staged, however I'm sure escapes in that sort of situation do happen, those birds are pretty smart. It's terrible that endangered species like that are still being taken from the wild. The only time it's excusable is if something is going to be done with them to increase the likelihood of the survival of the species.

  • @0-by-1_Publishing_LLC

This was wonderful! I have three macaws (domestic) and the four of us are the flock. I wish I could set them free, but I can't. All I can do is give them the best life possible based on their circumstances.

I wanted to cheer when the bird got free. It is so sad to see those cages. But as long as there is a market the capture of wild animals will continue. The traders/trappers should be the ones in cages.

Sadly Koda WPR refuge almost closes down every year, so 'home for life' is actually 'death row' for many birds. Huntbatch informs visitors she prefer they were dead than rehome. Other bird rescues also have hyacinths.

There is no need to have wild caught parrots any more, There mare plenty in captivity. There is enough birds in captivity now to put some back into the wild.
Bird breeders do some work towards this with endangered breeds these days.
Birds keepers are not all bad most would not touched wild birds there just no good I averys.

    • @deepowers3117
      @deepowers3117 Před 7 lety

It also makes thousands and thousand of beautiful homeless birds that have to be euthanized, because there is no more room in the rescue shelters. This includes the Hyacinth Macaw, which is endangered in the wild and many other beautiful birds. This situation should fill all the poachers with shame, but they have no pity for the poor doomed birds they catch or the others that they mangle or kill during capture. What cruel, heartless, creatures they are!

Also check with your local Humane Societies and/or Pet Stores -- they may know of some Parrot Rescues in your area. If there are none, see if you can find someone who lives in your area who owns parrots and who may need help in caring for them. Good Luck! Our feathered friends need you!

This seems staged, but it happens, and the heart break is just as powerful if not more-so. Have you seen the cages of African grays stuffed to the gills? Often they die from asphyxiation.
Do you notice how none of those birds fly alone? They're very social, intelligent, loving, and don't deserve imprisonment.

Find a parrot rescue organization in your area and volunteer there (you will probably find a parrot who will claim you as his new mom)! If you have trouble locating one, go to PETFINDER[dot]COM and type in your zip code: that should bring up rescues close to you. As a proud and dedicated parrot mom, you know how much care, love and work these birds require, how noisy and messy they are and that they are a lifetime commitment. DONATIONS are another way to help out! BLESS YOU and your Grey! :>)

your warped, do you watch rescue shelter videos?have u ever seen a naked, infected, half dead miserable, bird, would u like to be kidnapped, taken away from your loved ones and put in a cage, and ignored, and fed garbage, and hit and thrown up against the wall and broken cause you asked for some attention and love, you need to go to a rescue shelter and seee for your self what these birds lives are like. god put birds in trees, not cages, what gives us the right to do otherwise
