  • (More speeds below.) These are the most common 100 words in English. For each word, try to head-copy it. First, the word is sent in Morse code. Then it is spoken. And finally, it is sent again in Morse code. If you missed it the first time it, the second time allows you an opportunity to learn the word.

A good list of words to ignore when head copying...

Fair enough. For on air-practice, many of them are not used. But they are a gentle introduction to IWR (Instant Word Recognition). 73 de AD0WE

@@KurtZoglmann You're correct that a novice would at least need to recognize the words to eliminate them from the overall gist of the sentence / QSO comprehending. I still take notes but only what I need to enter in the log. Been so long for me that I can't even remember learning CW.

How did the other voice get in there? Seems really random.

This video was created years ago when AWS had just released AWS Polly. At the time, it was the most advanced and life-like text-to-speech option available. That being said, it sometimes had problems pronouncing individual words. To work around this, I would switch the voice for the problematic words. Thankfully, this is no longer an issue, and AWS has a next-generation neural engine that sounds even better than the original.

What a great resource, Kurt! So well made and useful! Thanks a lot, I’m having tons of fun head copying while doing other stuff, and it seems to me that it’s sinking in. Thanks again, man!
