TBH, I feel like modern Rhythm Games like DJMax, Muse Dash and OSU kind of keeps the genre alive steadily which allows sub genres of it to fluctuate and have a chance at trying like Deemo, Voce, Groove Coaster, Heck Rhythm Doctor too.

Good video but as someone who has been playing rhythm games for over 20 years I don't think we can blame Activision for its decline. Konami completely neglected the western market. They could have kept it going

I got introduced to rhythm games in march thanks to djmax respect V. The game & the songs are so fun no matter how many times I play them. My only problem I'd say is the inconsistency of the performances (freezes, fps drops, desync) as well as the always only DRM as you mentionned. Not being able to play the game offline and even worse, having problems with the SOLO mode if your connection isn't that good shouldn't be a thing at all. Other than that, I still love this game and I'm happy to have played it for so much hours.

I came here because I wandered upon DJMAX RESPECT V on Steam and wanted to see what it was all about. I've come across many rhythm games in my area of Japan at the game centers, but this game looks so stylish, and it has sooooo many DLC to choose from, including one featuring League of Legends characters or another with ultra cute designs from Muse Dash, which really piqued my interest!

this video is really concise and really helped me decide if i want this game, and personally, while i do think the "constantly online to avoid piracy" shtick is always lame, i personally dont see it as a deal breaker? unless it actively gets in the way of actually experiencing the game in the future, and for some reason cant be removed if/when it gets to that point it will mostly just be an inconvenience, at least to me, anyways great vid

I'm shocked you don't have more subs and views considering the general production quality of these videos. Definitely not 300 sub material lol. I recently got into rhythm games via a bout with a few mobile ones on a trip and another attempt at Osu once I got back. This is one I've been eyeing but I've heard... mixed reviews I spose. The DRM is a massive pain in the ass, and that issue compounded with a $50 pricetag as well as any DLC I would opt to get down the line. I also worry $50 could be too much considering how basic it is. I do know basic isn't bad, but it's a lot of money for something that could probably be serviceably replicated by a great many cheaper options, albeit at a quality cost I'm sure.

I play got into Mania Rhythm style from Friday night funkin'. The thing i'm questioning myself is if it's worth buying this, i barely tried playing with more then 4 keys. (I got into Osu!Mania too).
I see this as an opportunity of jumping in higher diffs. My basic level rn is around 4 stars in 4 keys but i believe this will get me really satisfied with everything since, it has all of the gamemodes. Even the rank, i don't really bother if people are try harding. But seeing like, a rhythm game having a battle pass for example and actually have to grind for stuff, like aside pp or an grade on a song, it's something new in my opinion to me, something that can keep me on the track for a long time, i saw there are seasons and stuff, a lot of dlcs but that's not the problem. Hopefully my thoughts on it are correct and btw, thanks for the video, i watched more reviews but i only found yours good in my POV. :)

Kind of a weird question, but does the game have a skin or setting to visually indicate what beat the note is landing on? So for example, in Step Mania, downbeats, upbeats, 16th notes, and triplets are all different colors. Some games I know of have a other different ways, but I find that most rhythm games don't have anything of the sort. Does this game have anything like that?

The worst part about DRM bullshit like that is that pirates will always find a way to either bypass or remove it completely, so the only ones suffering are those that actually buy the game.
As Valve once put it and has been proven to be right again and again:
The only way to stop piracy is to offer a better service

Which is a funny quote, because it aged badly. Modern Valve is so out of touch with their players that they'll, for example, drop OS support, because they relied on Chromium for the base of their client, instead of something else. Extra funny, because the fat man supposedly hates anything that forces stuff on you or is difficult to work on e.g. PS3 architecture. Valve has sold out a long time ago, they don't care anymore and nor do most consumes. Thanks for reminding me why I had this game as "ignored" on my Steam. I wanted to buy the GFL pack, but likely won't do so now.

Was looking forward to get into Beatmania for years, but been still a line on my ToDoList... so that kindof rhythm games was new to me, and being able to play it on Steam is a blast for me and I still see myself training on DJMAX for months. But I cannot disagree with the cons mentioned(DRM, price of DLCs. the steps of difficulty on mission mode... Personal notes: no practice mode and game can be pretty laggy at times even on Freestyle)! The only commercial alternative for a Western PC gamer atm is EZ2On and the visuals and soundtrack seems less appealing to me, imao... OSU have a huggGGGGeeee community fanmade songs that I find very overwhelming and less didactic to get into(they made a very good jobs on difficulty ranks on DJMAX which is motivating personally).
So yeah... was new to those Beatmania rhythm game, so no shame to admit my dupe side :P Nice to have a veteran's opinion on it!👍

I'm a complete newbie to beat games with this style of gameplay, with the only other title I have ever explored being OSU. This game has been refreshing, I may not be playing on hard-mode difficulties, but I can max combo most normal mode songs, and have been exploring into slower 'hard mode' difficulty maps.
OSU I played competitively, and I was pretty good at it - but DJMax Respect I bought to just chill out and relax to. Some of the controls were confusing in the beginning, and how much is locked behind a paywall was daunting - but so far this game has been a very good experience, even with just the base game.
The only things I could think to add, would be: A "Non ranked no fail" option, for practicing, or an option to slow advanced songs down (with a score reducer) for rhythm practice.

I bought the game today and thought that the always online thing wouldn't be that bad only to be disappointed when I played it on the Steam Deck. NOT an ideal experience because if you wanna stop and put the system to sleep, trying to play will greet you with a black screen, at least in ny experience. I also tried launching the game in offline mode only to be greeted by an error message, which left a bad taste in my mouth. Needless to say, I requested a refund shortly after. I have no patience for this BS nor will I deal with it. It's a rhythm game, ffs. Guess it's back to Project Diva till I find a better rhythm game.
Edit: XIGNCODE3, really? Might as well install an actual malware at this point because at least an actual malware doesn't always pretend that it benefits me somehow, and tell me that "hey, I'm here to destroy your PC".

Always-online is a glorified rental, even more so than your regular digital purchase. Steam DRM isn't horrible, you can use Steam it offline mode indefinitely, but in the end you still need Steam to run most games bought on there (some are DRM-free) and they could theoretically be taken away from you. But this game's always-online scheme is just plain stupid. Add to that the anti-cheat and yeah, it's pretty damn bad.
