Melbourne and Sydney receive state and federal funding as well as sponsorship from corporations, there is a Symphony orchestra in every state and Canberra , they are very well supported here. We have been lucky to have some well regarded international conductors , and the playing standard is pretty high generally . This of course is facilitated by the excellent venues especially Sydney ( just renovated) Melbourne (purpose built) and Perth ( great sound)
Surprised not to see Pittsburgh on your list given how overwhelmingly recognized their recent recordings with Honeck have been on Reference
Very fine orchestra, with a great horn section. But notice their concertmaster decamped for Berlin and the flutist Boston, both top bands in my list.
As for Honeck, other than that superb Bruckner 9, not a fan.
We are also very lucky to have a wonderful hall “Helzberg Hall” with the Kansas City Symphony. New conductor, new season and new direction… Looking forward to our wonderful season… In two weeks.. Mahler “resurrection” symphony.
See you tomorrow evening..😉
Cheers. See you then.
