@@reginaldm6260 There were always more options, also before, also now... Romania didn't only have a tradition in gymnastics. The difference between then and now is that before, parents (especially poor ones) hoped that by sending their children to a sport, even if it meant hard work and living far away, would give the children an opportunity for a better life (or at least food on the table). They were also far less in contact with their children as not every family had a phone so they didn't know all their hardships and not less important, there was a time where figures of authorities were allowed to be aggressive... and no one did anything against it, so children thought this was the normality. Nowadays, both children and parents have other attitude towards draconic programs, so they prefer anything else but sports at a professional level. Even without having aggressive trainers sports are very tough and in most sports at a very young age. Not every child or family wants that in their life...
I miss this era of gymnastics so much, when the releases were creative instead of the same over and over, the mounts much more creative on beam as are the moves, much more artistic choreography from not just Russia, and difficulty not mattering as much as lines and elegance and fluidity does.

wow.. the romanian team totally changed from 2000 - 2008.. no 2 gymnast compete in 2 olympics.. i wonder why since this is probably the strongest romanian team ever assembled..!
Kupets' routine reminded me of the odd routines from the 80's, except she couldn't quite pull off the eccentric parts. Boguinskaya, Silivas, and Shusonova could do it, but Kupets just didn't have whatever it is that lets you get away with weird choreography and music, haha.
cheng fei was so underscored in this olympics like FOR REAL, ponor’s routine is just VERY POOR in tumbling and artistry if compared to this routine from cheng fei

The Romanian team used to be the strongest!! I really love their style and I hope to see an amazing team in Tokyo 2020.
I wouldn't put too much hope into it. There is a very weak pool of gymnasts in Romania at the moment. There is no interest in hard work anymore.
