    I'm not a Xennial, I'm born in 1957 🙂
It means, I'm highly allergic to whatever "virtual", for the sole sake of meaningless technological showcase bravoure. When something is not helping to get a better magical feeling of showcase reality, it should not be used at all. Disney is making those errors now (since about 15 years ?) ...

While I do prefer practical effects myself, I appreciate the blend of new and old technology (if done well). I like to think Yale Gracey would love some of the effects Disney has been able to achieve 🤷‍♀️

@@disneycicerone I do like 'augmented reality', when it has a ... "purpose". Same as with whatever other effects. There exist, for instance, just as well purpose-less Pepper's ghost effects, purpose-less exagerated movements (when a slight but correct head & eyes movement could mean a lot more then the animatronic waving it's arms like a windmill.. ) , etc etc etc. LESS is MORE !
However, in case of VR: 99.89% of all 'virtual reality' is bland and disconnected from the global scene. There is no difference in application of 'effects' between on stage theatre and storytelling theme park rides. However, people who produce theatre are much more aware of the final audience perception (= psy human perception) then the ride designers are, because those NEVER-EVER were trained in an environment of spectators. They do everything from their drawing boards and sometimes are blinded tech fanatics, being from Generation Z .. lol...
(Note : I'm or have been connected with design and theatre and theme park concept planning...)
(I had those discussions extensively in IAAPA consultant and product manufacturing member circles, and provoked heated reactions from both sides (kudoos as well) because in the theme park industry, consultants PUSH new tech, for the sole reason of higher sales numbers/moneymaking, totally disconnected from the guest's experience. It were very unpleasant moments... (Lack of deontology in the industry.) Generation Z designers were/are constantly driving up the total execution costs of an attraction, making the heads of executives go mad by letting them BELIEVE they need it... and those executives mostly being Generation Xennial )
