Philippines-New Zealand Bilateral Meeting

    “I sincerely hope that you’ll enjoy your stay and work with us towards elevating the level of cooperation and friendship between our two countries,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. remarked as he engaged in a productive discussion with the Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Right Honorable Christopher Luxon. The discussion was centered on bolstering the long-standing relations between the Philippines and New Zealand, which have been thriving for more than five (5) decades since 1966.
    During their meeting, the President expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Luxon for his commitment to renewing ties with the Philippines in various areas of common interest. He noted that this is an excellent time to intensify bilateral relations amidst the ever-changing landscape of the Pacific region.
    “Since then, we have pursued cooperation on matters of mutual interest, resulting to 30 bilateral agreements in the fields of defense, development, agriculture, education, energy, food security, visa, environment and trade, among others,” he stressed.
    “Throughout the decades, we have remained committed towards this friendship through a trade relationship with immense untapped potential, a strong commitment to international law, and a robust people-to-people ties,” the President continued.
    In response, the Prime Minister reaffirmed New Zealand’s unwavering support for the Philippines, considering the country as one of its significant partners in the Southeast Asian region.
    “For New Zealand, we are deeply committed to reenergizing our relationships across the Southeast Asia. For Philippines, in particular, we look at this market and this country we think it’s a fantastic future that you have,” Prime Minister Luxon conveyed.
    Prior to the Official Visit, President Marcos Jr. and Prime Minister Luxon had previously met on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - Australia Special Summit in Melbourne in February 2024.
