Hi Josh. Sorry about your weird experience in Mozambique. I am Mozambican and once I had to "rescue" a friend who went through nonsense trouble on arrival in Maputo, allegedly because there was an error on reading his passport data. It turned out later that the computers at the immigration were not working properly. When I asked to see the screen I realized it was clear enough to the reader to tell my friend was the legitimate owner of the passport. By that time he had already spent 20 hours at the airport, with no access to food, no access to his checked luggage and no permission to enter the country. Fortunately I was able to provide what he needed to survive. All that probably only because he (and I) did not bring the officer any "chocolate". My friend now tells me he will never come to visit me in Mozambique again. So sad!

You also keep it real by flying the airlines and airplanes available to everyday real people, not just 5 star carriers with gilded apartments in the sky. @@robertdaniel5461 It can be considered acceptable in diplomatic terms that a foreign GOVERNMENT can take your passport in the case of a bona fide criminal case to prevent a foreigner from fleeing. But the passport is the property of the US government and a private airline company has no standing to take it from you. Before you surrender it, a quick call to the US Embassy is in order. The US embassy should be able to advise you. They could suggest that you surrender but send them a picture of it so they could reissue a temporary passport if you were left stranded for some reason. Or they might advise not to surrender and attempt to intervene with the airline and that country's government (not so likely). In any case, I would at least try to contact them locally by cell phone while at the airport and ask for advice before giving it up, IF you are not in legal trouble. After all, it is US property that the airline is trying to take from you and they may have standard policies and certainly can assist you with a replacement as long as they are aware of the abuse of that govt's diplomatic imperative to allow you freedom of travel across their border. It doesn't seem like a hard thing to do and one should always have embassy/consulate contact information when traveling to different countries.

    Hi Josh,
    Thanks for your clip.
It brought disturbing memories from my trip to Maputo last year.
The people OUTSIDE the airport are lovely, but the airport....
Especially on my departure, no wifi, and corrupt customs officials...
I was stopped at customs during my departure process and was asked by several important looking officers " what money do i have to buy souvenirs"...
I said that i have hardly any cash, and that i will buy souvenirs with my CC...
Than they called to chief officer who requested to check my wallet....
I kept playing dumb, knowing exactly what they wanted...after 20 min hold up,the bunch got tired of me and let me go free.
On one hand it annoys me, but on the other i know these gov employees make redicilous salaries, so who can blame them? Very sad.
BTW, i stayed in the famous Serena Polana Hotel, even the Q of England stayed there once...:)
Not really expensive, around 170$ and well worth the special ambiance and good old days gone.
Any how, on another topic, the B762 still flies for UTair in Russia, especially on long haul like Moscow to Anadyr.
    Cheers.
    Cheers

I flew on the Air France 737-200 many many times.as a kid between cayenne,French Guyana and point a pitte ,Guadeloupe with stops in Paramaribo, Georgetown port of Spain and fort de France. We called the “laitier “ = the milk route. It’s small and the engines make a high pitch sound.

I got excited once you mentioned Aloha Air, as I remember the 737's (and their 200's) fondly as a kid! Felt like a mini-reunion with an old friend! But I don't know what you're going off about with "not so fond memories" (save for that one incident that landed safely!)
Miss those jets. It's *definitely* not the same seeing Southwest 737's fly our interisland routes now.

Hi Josh, always interesting to watch your videos with really exotic airlines. 25 years ago (I know it's very long time ago) I flew Air Zimbabwe's B 762 from FRA to Harare, and also the B 732. Additionally, I made two short flights with BAE 146. Unbelivable, that their Boeings are still in service today. At that time also two ex LH 707 could be seen in Harare, but I think they were not in service anymore at that time. Looking forward to your future projects.

Travelled on that same aircraft (C9-BAR) in 2020. 1 week later, it had a runway excursion. One of the worst flights in my life. Almost one hour waiting on the gate without air conditioning. When we arrived in Maputo, the imigrations office didn't have enough Visa stamps for everybody. And everybody ask for bribes.

I can only hope it gets its act together, for it deserves SO much more. It is a beautiful country, it's people are lovely, despite the corruption and blatant bribery os some. I just pray Mozambique can get from under all that bad luck and finally thrive and shine.
