They don't need the theatrics, they just sang the song beautifully as they always do.
I have it in my Will for this version to be played at my memorial service. I listen to it every morning before getting out of bed
I also want this version of this glorious song to be sung at my funeral! It is SPECTACULAR and always brings me to my knees and to tears! In my opinion, HOMEFREE does it better than anyone! Elvis Presley also has a beautiful rendition! But, I really do not care for the Vince Gill and Carrie Underwood version! I am not a fan of Carrie Underwood at all.
With this being a gospel song, Home Free tends to keep their arrangements simple. Their harmonies can certainly carry a song, without having to add any gimmicks.
This my most favored version of this … it’s just heavenly…Period.

Carrie and Vince's version is a performance of an anthem, this one is a prayer. And their live performances are the same as this video. I think this has more power than Carrie and Vince's, because it isn't a performance, it is a prayer.
I agree wholeheartedly! I’ve always said the song is more important than the singer. In Vince and Carrie’s version I feel the theatrics of her singing and the guitar solo were showing off their talents. In Home Free’s version I feel it in my soul!

I think this is one of the best versions of this song. Tim's bass really carries the song. I found Home Free 2 years ago & love these 5 talented guys. Their harmonies are the best in the business. This is one of the few songs where you get to hear Adam Rupp's sweet tenor voice during "All Is Well". And the scenery is awesome filmed in the beautiful Austrian Alps (my dad comes from that area).

In my opinion, the reason Carrie and Vince's version is so powerful is because of their passion for the Lord and it shines through.
This one is more spiritual and has a greater depth. But either one...Bless the LORD.

First things first...Vince has been my #1 solo country artist since he first came out in the 80's, and still is. Carrie is great but not my favorite, but I think she excells on this song with Vince. I cried the first several times I listened to it.
Having said all that, this Home Free version is the most reverant, beautiful version I have ever heard and I've heard many. I have heard/sang this song for about 48 years. I have listened to this version probably 50X and still get goosebumps. To me, this version seems more like an intimate prayer to God than a declaration to the listener like Vince and Carrie's version. I just prefer this one.
This is an old hymn, and I thought my uncle sang it best because it came from the bottom of his soul. It's not who sings it. It's how they sing it.
I just love this version.. Home free is awesome in what ever music style they do. You need to try out their new song Understand . A Home Free original.

I love this version of the hymn. Home Free kills it. It is filmed in the Austrian Alps when they were touring there. Did you notice the beatboxer singing? One of the few times he sings. He sang “it is well”. Nice reaction Taylor. I don’t think you need to compare versions just enjoy!
The scenery is part of the beauty of this song, home of my maternal grandparents. The 5 part harmonies cannot be beat. And I love Vince Gill and have for many years but HomeFree has my love for their version. My children know that this will be played for my funeral when the time comes. Thanks for your reaction. Home Free's version set in the Austrian Alps is more soothing. Carrie's in front of a large crowd was more passionate. I think they both fit their respective settings perfectly. I love both versions and the one I choose to listen to depends on my mood at the time.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever, it humbles me every time I hear it no matter who sings it.

I haven't heard Vince & Carrie's version, but I'm sure it's great. I'll listen later. I think the best version is whatever you like best. And I really like HF'S version. Hymn singing should never be a competition, but a personal experience. However, scenery-wise, HF'S video is difficult to beat -- so, so beautiful and a near-perfect place to sing this hymn.
Love Home Free, the perfect group to sing this, in the most beautiful place in the world, Austrian Alps.

I think Carrie has a beautiful voice, but I have to say that this version is better in my opinion. They don't need to scream or strain to sing the song. It is effortless for them. They did a beautiful job with it.

Really so beautifully sung in such a wonderful background (Austrian Alps) I've heard the song so many times,I grew up with it because I come from a very religious family, but this one is still my favorite. A year ago I showed this to my mother (84) . Now she regularly asks if I want to put it on. She herself has passed it on to her church community so that she can show it and hear it at church one day. All those beautiful different voices, but still one. Such great harmony, so pure and warm. No instruments sounds. And of course so nice to hear Adam Rupp sing even if it is short. ..Yes, Home Free can do this too. It touches you deep in your heart and soul. Gives you shivers.
Kind of hard to compare a song with a whole band backing up the singer at an awards show to an acapella studio song. Home Free's version has always taken me to a higher place. To each his own and this version will always raise my hands up. I love Carrie, always have, but I have to go with what my spirit feels and this is what makes it feel.
"How Great Thou Art" has been one of my favorite gospel songs for the past 60 years! The 2nd half of this HF version is AMAZING! But I also absolutely love everything about Carrie & Vince's version. And, as noted by someone else, Elvis has a wonderful version, too.

Dynamics is a relative term and I can appreciate many types of versions of this song and others.l What it offers though is a higher plane, more spiritual and reverent. It certainly has "heart and soul" especially with Adam actually singing and doing it so beautifully. Kate Smith sang this way back when as well and she is one powerful singer. So I get what you say about the song. I just love this version so much more than I ever thought I would. Thanks for the reaction.

AMAZING
The beauty of those five voices in harmony puts them at the top of the list for me. And they sang this song with reverence and worship, which I find much more spiritually and emotionally moving. By the way, this is the first reaction video I've watched where some other group was mentioned more than the artists being reviewed, which rather spoiled it a bit for me.
I think Carrie and Vince’s are definitely more dynamic, but I find this to be more spiritual and sacred and worshipful. Hard to compare the two. And Elvis also has an amazing version…. It’s impossible for me to rank them. Heck, I can barely compare them. This one moves my soul to a worshipful place and me to tears, though. And the Alps as a backdrop? Wow. Literally like they’re standing in God’s natural church.

I totally agree! I am not a fan of the Vince and Carrie version! In my opinion, I find the Homefree version to be MUCH more spiritual and the scenery adds so much to this version. GOD'S beauty is absolute perfection. It was in the beginning and it is now! I think that Carrie Underwood thinks alittle too much of herself. ELVIS Presley has a wonderful version of this also! But, I give this one to the phenomenol group HOMEFREE!!!

The Carrie Underwood/Vince Gill was an on stage performance on television for millions of people. That I personally do not care for.
This is an intimate, powerful, heartfelt song. This is as passionate as it gets. Not just a “song”, it is a gospel song, hymn. The other was a staged performance….nope nope nope. This beats the Underwood/Gill performance by leaps and bounds.
You mention Vince Gill home free do a excellent version of Vince’s song Go Rest High on That Mountain will worth a listen.

Austin sang in church as a kid and his dad was part of a travelling gospel group.
I though I was the only person brought to tears when they sing How great thou art. This morning 10/13/2023 with the world falling to pieces it brought me to prayer.
This song, song by a lady from church, sang it at my grandparents and my parents funerals and my brother wants it sung at his. My grandpa was a minister so hymns, especially this one, were sung every Sunday at church and at home. In my opinion, I prefer Home Free's version best and the 5 part harmony... beautiful! Their version will be done for my funeral.
I don't compare, any songs each has their own strong points. Each singer brings their talent to the song

The music to this hymn is an old Swedish folk melody. The lyrics was originally written in swedish in 1885 by Carl Boberg .

This always put me into joy and sorrow tears at once, but pure beauty, was our family funeral songs, remember first timei ever heard it read and read it when i was a kid, with the red bible cover from school, we had it for every death, but this with these folks, and with you... right here, appreciate the pure wonder and beauty and miracle of these perfect voices, giving not a mourning for the message, but the pure soul appreciation for our lives.... this so .................. am so happy here with you, i needed this with you tonight..... thank you brother, and God bless you and your family.

I think you should also hear Carrie at the CMA awards when she sings with CeCe Wynans. I’m not sure I spelled the name correctly but you’ll be able to find it.
I love the mashup of these two hymns… It was nice to hear Adam Rupp the beatboxer sing as well with It is Well with my soul! They picked the perfect setting for the video in the Austrian Alps! This song is extremely appropriate, just found out a friend's 7year old son,whom was diagnosed with tumors all over his body, just found out that they couldn't find any more tumors, in a week's time,God is showing off and showing out,How great?His greatness is immeasurable!
All of these guys are believers and that alone adds an extra dimension.
So... I went and listened to the Gill/Underwood version. Sorry. Not a fan. But we don't all have to like the same things. I freely admit to being prejudiced, as a loyal Home Fry. And I'm not a fan of what I term "traditional" country. But I am also not a fan of hymns, and the Home Free version brought me to tears the first time I heard it. To my mind, the Home Free version is about the music, while the Underwood version is about the singer. And, of course, the Home Free version is a master class in harmony, so it has to be my favorite. To each his own. Hoping for some reactions to Home Free's new album. Have a great day!
I just went and listened to the other version and I also prefer HF’s. I’m not religious but listening to HF sing this is almost a religious experience. Carrie and Vince’s version, while beautiful, doesn’t move me personally. Kind of the same reason I prefer HF over Voiceplay or PTX.

Home Free by far as with the undertones and overtones that are produced by their tight harmonies and uncomplicated arrangement, it sounds, at times, like a full chorus. You probably need good earphones or an incredible sound system to hear them all. I like Carrie and Vince's version, but the instrument takes a lot away from the beauty and reverence of the song. Home Free's version is the best I've ever heard, although when two singers sang it in Hawaii in the canyon, there were undertones and overtones there as well, but Home Free's version is, by far, the best.

Carrie was feeling the lyrics with a live audience and had closeups of her face. Hard to beat that with a video shoot lip synching out on a hillside no audience. Probably better in person.
Composers seem to know which notes vibrate at the right frequencies to generate goosebumps and chills. Memorable scene in HOME ALONE when the choir was rehearsing OH HOLY NIGHT is electric for me every time.
Just listened to the Carrie/Vince version and was not particularly moved by it. It seemed to be more self-conscious (if that makes sense) than HF, whose offering was a more humble and more about the song itself than about the individuals performing.
With Christmas approaching, may I suggest a less well-known carol? "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" with Home Free, Oak Ridge Boys, and Jeffrey East is outstanding!! Please listen, even if you choose not to do a review.

But this song deserves no less, i thank God for this version.
I have to say, in my humble opinion, that I love the HOMEFREE rendition of this song much more. Vince and Carrie always are great, but with this particular song, HOMEFREE was so much better! They sang it as if it were a prayer to GOD. The Vince and Carrie's version seemed to be a production.
Only issue I have = why has it been a while since regaling us with HOME FREE - a phenomenon that BECKONS one's ear and heart soon thereafter ! Home Fries know it. GBjj

Carrie performed this song at a music awards show and it's even better in my opinion than when she sang with Vince. With Vince it felt like she was holding back because her voice has so much power and Vince voice is more mellow.

Home Free wins the comparison, in our opinion. We believe Home Free was singing to and worshipping God. The other two sound like they were playing for a human audience.

This just goes to show how everybody is different. Yes, Carrie and Vince’s Version is very good however, I personally prefer this version and in particular this video of Humphreys version because they have two videos of this song the other video is them singing it inside of church

I’ve never heard Carrie/Vince’s version. I can say that I appreciate your comment about Home Free’s second half of the song reeled it in for you. We all have different choices and favorites. Home Free’s version of this is my all time fav that I’ve heard. I’ll probably be chastised for saying it,but I’m not a big fan of Carrie. Sorry. It goes way back to American idol. I’m not saying she’s not talented. She has a very good voice. I do like Vince Gill! His voice sounds so effortless when he sings. Glad you appreciated Home Free’s cover of this one!

Home Free every time for me, I prefer all men singing, not too fond of a woman's voice in the mix apart from Maggie Baugh, her voice fitted the song. Suggesting Amazing Grace with Peter Hollens and I don't think I've seen you react to Austin and Rob singing Nessun Dorma, that one is a must, it's on Austins channel x
I remember back in the 60's on road trips or being transferred, when We'd loose radio stations this was one of the songs sang in the car!!

Perhaps if you are going to do a comparison video, you should title it as such. I thought this was going to be a Home Free REACTION, because that is what the title says. But a Home Free reaction should be based on the performance of Tim, Austin, Rob, Chance, and Adam. There is no one named Vince or Carrie in this group.
