    Don approached Home Free to do this video for the 50th anniversary of American Pie. Loved how the guy's kept Don front and center. Paying true homage to Don and his iconic song while adding their special touches. Thank You so much for playing and reacting to this. Love your channel and look forward to more great music. What ever you choose to react to is great, feel free to change it up. Surprise us. Take care, keep up the great work.

    Don's 75 years old and doing a fine fine job with his masterpiece. Born in 1945, Don turned 76 this October 2nd. So many brilliant musicians were born in the war years. As if God saw we needed some serious healing and spiritual evolution.

    I'll say it like a Brit...THAT WAS BLOODY BRILLIANT !!! American Pie was released on October 24th, 1971....&
    Don is 75 (maybe 76 since this was released back in Feb 2021. Don actually reached out Home Free as he loves them too & he trusted them with his ICONIC song. This came out when I was just 11 and in my schoolclass every kid learned this song by heart, yes all 8 minutes of it....we sang it on school field trips on the bus....sometimes twice on the way to wherever we were going and then coming back to the school. I cannot emphasize enough how much this song represents my generation. It's *OUR* song. I wanted to point out Adam and his vocal percussion, FOR 8 BLOODY minutes. Home Free said you may not hear this too often on their concert tours because Adam Rupp nearly passed out after doing this recording !!! Anyways great reaction to the song of my generation covered by Home Free & their awesome harmonies

      Kevin Clements you and I are about the same age I was 11 at that time and I loved this song and when I saw that Don Mclain wanted to have Home Free to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of his song I knew this would be great.

      @bobbie1st Před 2 lety +1

      I was also 11 and everyone sang this song. American pie and Black Water by the Doobie Brothers are the two songs that were always sang when any large group got together for a field trip. Of course it was high school for Black Water.

    Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Poor Adam had to do such a long stretch of beatboxing but he nailed it. Think the song is about 8 min. long. Don McLean just received his Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame recently & Home Free was invited to sing a portion of this song there. What an honor for them.

    Have you watched HF and Lee Greenwood do his God Bless the USA? Lee and Don are friends and he knew Don wanted to do something special for the anniversary so Lee told Don to get together with HF and look at the masterpiece they created together, just as they did with Lee and his song...love both songs originals and new 💖😁

    Don McLean, actually called HOMEFREE to accompany him on his 50 year re-play of this magnificient song! They were all fantastic! This, so far, has been the best Home Free song that they have done! Don McLean looked and sounded exactly the way he did when he first recorded it! SPECTACULAR! And each one of the HOMEFREE guys were on top of their game! The harmonies were glorious, also. I am around Don's age and I remember well, when it first hit the air waves and we all were blown away by it! Thanks HOMEFREE and Don for making an old lady very happy! I have been dancing all morning. Thank you for reacting so wonderfully to this MASTERPIECE! It is an absolutely beautiful song!

    This song has a very deep meaning. It's not just a fun nostalgic song written for the movie American Pie. The backstory pertains to the turbulence of the 1960's, disenchantment with what was happening in our country. Don wrote the song when he discovered that his favorite musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) were killed in a plane crash while en route to a show, hence the lyrics " the day the music died". Interesting fact: Country singer Waylon Jennings was suppose to be on the private plane flying them to their next performance but gave up his seat to the flu-stricken Big Bopper. I remember the tragedy & the song very well. I was 15 at the time.

    Home Free’s cover of Helplessly Hoping that was originally by Crosby Stills and Nash (not country but close enough lol) is remarkable. No instruments and no beat boxing, just perfect harmonies. Even Adam the beat boxer is singing. Hoping you’ll get a chance to listen to it whether you react or not. Well worth a listen. It’s a very short song that will leave you wanting more. It would be nice to see you react to it if you choose. Thanks. Great reaction as always!!

    Clearly you are a huge fan. Your reaction was touching. This is the American Anthem of my youth. Home Free's interpretation of, and homage to the original and Don was just so beautiful. Don was given a star on the walk of fame in Hollywood, and Home Free was there, and sang a part of this song, a capella of course, for the crowd. They went crazy. Don was so humble and thankful. Imagine..... he should have been there decades ago, and I am so happy Home Free was there for his special moment.

    I think this is quite possibly the best cover of any song, in any genre, that I have ever heard. Ever. Don McLean sounds incredible, and Home Free is Home Free - as good as it gets. I thoroughly enjoyed your reactions; basically mimicked mine when I first heard this gem.

  • @teresacartwright5406

    I think the age in Don McLean's voice only adds to the poignancy of the song. Back when it was first released (yeah, I'm that old) a local radio station (on request) would send a complete analysis of all the symbolism in the song - I wish I'd kept it. The lyrics are so deep. This is a beautiful rendition of it - thank you for playing it.

    "The day the music died" is about 3 famous singers from the 1950's :Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the "The Big Bopper", were killed in a plane crash. They were in route to their next gig! None of these singer were country singers but their music was so influential it touched every artist for years to come.

    The shortest eight and a half minutes in music!! This keeps your attention so well that time is compressed and it never seems to be as long as it is. The same for the original version when I listened to it 50 years ago and it's been on my playlist since there have been things to have a playlist on and now the Home Free version that I think of as an enhanced version and Don wanted this to happen with Home Free as he said because "They know harmony!" What a better tribute to a master piece than Don himself collaborating with Home Free to create a second master piece of music.
    Just Perfect!

    This song is older than both us...lol.
    It originally came out in 1971.
    It was about the plane crash that killed singers Richie Valens, The Big Booper and Buddy Holly. Ending the original early era of rock and roll.
    It covers 1959 when the crash happened to 1969, the cultural changes, divides, etc.

  • @annfrost3323
    @annfrost3323 Před 2 lety

    This was commemorating the 50th Anniversary of this song that McLean wrote himself. When asked what he meant with all the hidden references in the song, he said It meant I didn't have to work anymore. Some interpret the crown stolen from the king means stolen from Elvis Presley by the Beatles.
    The day the music died was in February 1959 when three of the most popular rock 'n roll singers died in a plane crash.

THAT is saying something!!!! That being said, many "Stars" have re-cut their "hits" with Home Free (as you'll learn) ------ ummm, :) there has got to be a reason, huh!?! --- Those individuals/groups must have seen/realized the same things you and I (and so many others here too) have heard and seen!!!!

    One of my all time favorite albums was the Crusader album by Don McLean, dealing with the Crusades in Israel. You cannot find it anywhere anymore, which is a shame. I guess it was not PC enough, although it was really quite accurate historically. But the music itself was so outstanding that is why I wish so much I could find a replacement to my album I wore out.

    Hey my friend, if you haven’t already seen it, there is a video out explaining the meaning to this song. It’s really a good watch if you are interested in it.

    Great song. Great reaction. Maybe once a week do a non country song and call it "Wacky Wednesday" or "Something else Sunday......You get the point. I'm sure you could come up with something more clever. If you ever decide to do "Rock and roll Fridays" and you haven't heard Thunderstruck by AC/DC then please react to that.🤘

    I really enjoy your videos friend..for something different but amazing please consider reacting to Walk by Pantera and Critical Acclaim by Avenged Sevenfold ..both are absolute bangers! If you do Critical Acclaim please use lyric video because they have a lot of meaning and then the live version at the lbc. Walk by Pantera original video it's fire and you can hear all the lyrics.. great videos and blessings to you and yours 🤟
