They do sing live, but they often use a backing track. This time, they very well may have sung live during the taping, but the vocals we are hearing are all the normal studio recording. It doesn't take away from the amazing live dance performance. In fact, I much rather hear pre-recorded vocal in a high energy song like this than I would 100% out-of-breath live vocals.

The Lab dancers were SO SO important in keeping up BTS' energy and focus - they had been working with them in LA in preparation for the Kinetic Manifesto MV and needless to say, it was tiring for everybody, especially the members. In a behind the scenes for the MV, the members acknowledged the dancers keeping up their spirits and hyping them up and how much it was needed because the choreography was so difficult to the point of making them want to vomit when they first learned it. Another point of reference is the time stamp on the clock in the station - BTS did multiple takes of this performance (before rush hour in the wee hours in the morning), so yeah, they're exhausted, audience or not. And they did other location shoots for content on Jimmy Fallon's show, not just the "ON" performance. Busy, busy, busy.

I love that you kept mentioning how they performed even when it’s without an actual audience in front of them. That was a very big hurdle they shared with us that they had to overcome and continue to not let weigh them down. They still held online concerts for us during the pandemic, but only seeing faces through a screen isn’t the same. Yet they stayed positive and persevered. Then they could finally hold safe, regulated, in person concerts in Korea- but the audience couldn’t scream or make noise. They expressed how difficult those conditions could still be, how they sympathized for the fans who couldn’t act as freely as they wanted, but nonetheless they were so grateful and still gave beyond their all. Out of all the people that get into them, i really do hope you get to see them in person (hell, maybe even work with them!). Very happy to have found your channel, you have such breath of fresh air takes and the notes you say just seem so genuine. Keep up the awesome work!

AND on top of all that they are singing live (with a backing track of course). BTS trained for 5 years before they even debuted. And KPop training is a whole different beast to anything here. These kids dedicate every waking moment to training for years. Jimin as said many times that he slept in the practice room and lived off 2-3 hours a night. Also there was originally a large pool of candidates, so the 7 that formed BTS were the best of the best so to speak. Every member takes the group very seriously and their relationship is something more then just family. They have a shared experience that is unique in the world and they grew up together existing in an intense reality. All the kpop bands work their butts off, the training is insane, most don't make it and those that do...work. They don't get married and have families, nor do they live like playboys/girls, they are idols. But BTS is special. BTS has something I can only define as a little bit of magic, and a whole lot of heart.

Great reaction Lindsey! Interesting fact: BTS is the only artist ever to perform at Grand Central Station. They shut down the station from 2 a.m. to 4:00 to shoot the performance. They did 3-4 takes so they were extremely tired afterwards (that's why you see them collapse on the floor afterwards). Jimmy Fallon shared how he could feel V's heart beating so hard through his BACK!
Here is the link to him sharing about the whole experience: czcams.com/video/m15BCwP11Bs/video.html. BTS have many amazing Tonight show performances that you should check out. They took over the show for an entire week, with new performances each night! (The Tonight Show even add English subtitles to their performance)

Thanks for uploading a reaction to this particular ON performance, Lindsey!! ON is sooo physical, such high energy, and hard popping. I really am amazed at how enthusiastic the guys are in the middle of the night in NYC after a full day of shooting & I don't even know how much travel was involved.
While I can't begin to imagine what it takes to put on a show like BTS does, it's easy to watch them and under-value just how physically demanding their choreos are. It takes a dancer's eye and experience to point these things out, and I'm grateful to have found your channel. You are a wonderful reactor. 😊

one of the backup dancers for this choreo IS the actual choreographer. she’s super young and a fan of BTS herself and has been a part of their permission to dance concerts in america along with the other dancers in this video. if you watch the practice video you can hear all the dancers hyping them up during that dance break and its genuinely such a powerful thing to see

They always give them all. You will never see them performing lousy. They even mentioned behind the scene that it's hard to dance at the Grand Central because it's slippery. I think you didn't notice some members slipped a little bit. I know you love their Black Swan, and that's also one of my fav, especially the live version. you can check this live czcams.com/video/wSNd02kVv8o/video.html super recommended. Also their 2020 MMA czcams.com/video/PtaP4UkZKyc/video.html but they are not complete because Suga was recovering from his shoulder surgery. But you will see how they leave a spot for him not realizing that someone is missing. Only if you are an Army you will feel their sweetness because that means no one can replace anyone. I highly suggest you react to their live performance so that you can see their choreo. The Boy meets Evil from their 2016 MAMA czcams.com/video/Q_hQjxGSS7k/video.html .. We Army has a lot to suggest..

This was choreographed by (only just now 21-year-old) Sienna Lalau, and the dancers were from The Lab, for the music video "ON Kinetic Manifesto Come Primo" and for this performance. The Lab dancers (including Sienna) also performed in the 8 US shows on the Permission to Dance tour. Sienna also did the choreo for "Dionysus" and for the dance break in BTS's "Butter" performance at the Grammys this year.

This is such an incredible performance and in the behind the scenes footage from it they actually did 3 or 4 run through of the performance to get the one that they liked the most and Jimmy Fallon made a comment that when he went to hug them he could feel their heartbeat they worked so hard. Incredible proud of them always💜

Many here have suggested 'ON' Kinetic Manifesto Film: Come Prima, and I'll add my vote! Excellent in so many ways.
In one of your reactions to a dance practice you talked about seeing when dancers are "into it", and in that video you'll see LOTS of closeups of facial expressions. Whether the lyrics call for fierce, lost, defiant, authoritative, combative, or pleading, they are into it!

It was February 2020, JUST before all the pandemic spit hit the fan. I had never heard or seen BTS except for a Billboard ad for their Levi Stadium show that never took place. I DO follow Jimmy Fallon though, so when I saw "BTS perform at Grand Central Terminal" I thought That's iconic, I have to check this out! Like you, their dancing and energy and the transition of the song from hard & rocking to slow and melodic just completely blew me away and I INSTANTLY became ARMY And I've NEVER LOOKED BACK!
