- Find out why Nancy loves these three machines and what their uses are. The Brother Scan-n-Cut DX, for scanning designs that you can adjust, duplicate and manipulate to be used in so many different designs - also very good for papercrafters working with stamps, no need for a die if you have the Scan-n-Cut. The Gemini machine, super strong cutting machine - using the Build-a-Block series you can cut 6 to 8 layers of fabric and not waste any material. The Sizzix Big Shot Plus - so many designs for papercrafters and quilters alike and using the Adaptor Plate G you can even use die designed by Accuquilt in the Big Shot machine. My new favorite fusible webbing is HotFix Adhesives.
Find all these items at your favorite quilt shop. If they don't have it you can see most of what was talked about on www.quilting-warehouse.com - please contact me if you have any questions or difficulties finding these products at QuiltingWithNancy@Gmail.com
Wow! This is all new to me. What you can do with these machines I love applique and I love doing hexagons. I also appreciate you letting us see you work through the challenges because that may come in handy for us as well. Thank you for this awesome video.
You are so welcome!
Awesomeness at its best please nancy do more videos wuth scan and cut as your explanation is super awesome
Thank you! Will do!
Thank you. Love your videos! You are so energetic and informative!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful experience’s with us.
I really enjoyed watching your video 👍❤️❤️❤️
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you so much. For sharing this your great video. ❤👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
You are so welcome!
I've been teetering on getting one of these, as I already have a Silhouette Cameo and Gemini, but this looks quite promising. I'm a newbie card maker.
Hello Nancy I had the Gemini and the sizzix big shot and I can cut fabric on the big shot and the Gemini dies to . Fabulous video thank-you.
Wow Nancy, I had no idea you had all these machines. I love that you could show each of them and review the differences between them. I wish I had seen this before I bought my accuquilt. I had seen the Brother machine demonstrated a couple years ago and was really impressed with it. What I like about it is that you do not have to purchase a bundle of dies to make it work and that you can design your own, alter it and make very precise designs. The problem with the other machines is their dies are the major expense and you need a lot of them to make the machine useful.
I did not realize that you could use other manufactures dies in the sizzix. This is a great video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks!
I didn't think of using the fusible fabric on the material. I cut fabric on my big shot for quilting, but I haven't learned to do the quilting yet. Thanks so much for all the info. I enjoy watching and love your voice.
I'm so thankful that you are doing comparisons. I am looking at getting my first cutting machine and because it is something I am putting a lot of effort into saving up for and hope to use it to make some money and improve where I'm at in life, I want to make sure I am getting quality and versatility. I truly appreciate that you took the time to show us the versatility of each machine and shared your knowledge gained from your personal experience. Thank you so very much
Glad it was helpful!
Nancy, I use my Brother Scan 'n Cut to make the appliqué images for my embroidery machine so I do no cutting in-the-hoop, I place the appliqué in place after the placement stitch and then it's ready for the satin stitch final outline. It's amazing! It usually does a little test triangle so the blade depth can indicate if it cuts the fabric AND the iron on adhesive together but not the mat! I used it to cut vinyl and tested to ensure that the transfer sheet would either leave the adhesive ON the vinyl (so I could place lettering where I wanted, or remove the adhesive so I could place it directly onto the signs I was lettering. Again, I've only scratched the surface on what the machine can do. Thank you for the demo as I do still use my Big Shot Pro when making many duplicates as it cuts (quilting cotton) 8 layers at a time.
Wow thank you! You helped me with a lot of questions.
You're very welcome!
Thanks Nancy. Love to have those cutting machines
Good timing on this video! I was just starting to research the Brother ScanNcut machines and trying to figure out which one would best suit my needs for cutting fabric (no paper crafting here). I would use it mostly for applique.
Cindy all of them are great for appliqué but the Scan-n-cut gives you the most creative options I think 😄
you also save on the dies because every size needs to be bought! whereas the ScanNcut has the ability to change size on screen!
Which of these machines is best for vinyl /cutting /heatpressing
I did read that Crafter's Companion will be bringing out a spacer to use their dies with the Accquilt machine. Very informative and interesting topic. Thankyou Nancy.
Joan - thanks 🤗
I can hear Bill breathing very labored. Otherwise, nice info on the Brother Scan/n/Cut. I have the Circuit and have not had good success with fabric cutting, even with starching the fabric, so this may be a consideration. Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate.
Thank you for this information. I am finding a lot of disappointment from cricut owners in many different areas of crafting. It's disappointing because they are probably the best advertised of the cutting machines and I think many who are getting their first machine end up getting the cricut because they don't know their options
Fabulous video, you have enlightened me so much Nancy Thanks
You're very welcome! - Nancy
What a great video! You helped me make a very important decision! I had no clue what all these machines did!
Glad I could help!
Thank you Nancy ! Your earrings are awesome!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Great information, Nancy! Thank you! I just pre-ordered my Sissix big shot SWITCH machine, which I have high hopes for. Thanks again!
Thanks for this comparison video! Very informative & helpful! New subscriber!
Thanks for watch and I’m glad I can help 😀
You can use the Gemini dies with the Big Shot.
With the proper shins you should be able to.
Gemini has come out with waaaayyyyy more stuff for quilting and they now have fabric plates.
I love you Nancy are making any new videos soon !!
i have the DX, Big shot and big shot pro, I prefer dies and a die cutting machine, i’m old school.
The name is Julie Fei-Fan Balzer for the ScanNcut videos. She is fantastic!
Thank you, thank you. I have been wondering the benefits of the different fabric cutting devices. After watching I think I'm leaning towards the brother dx.
Looked on the web site you promoted on here for the product you promoted and it is not on there. Says not found
You are such a sweetheart Nancy and I thank you (and Bill) for your time. Do you think the Brother can cut 1.5mm Neoprene for my custom face mask design? I first need to cut the fabric and then I will later sublimate print/press the masks? Additionally, I need to cut about 200-500 blanks. Do you think this would be the machine I need or something more industrial, or even another method? Thanks a million.
Hi :) - I don't think this would work, sorry. The neoprene is pretty tough stuff. One odd option is having a company make you the blanks you need for die cutting. For instance I know that Accuquilt will custom make dies - it might be an option?
@@QuiltingWithNancy Thank you so much for your reply. Yes, upon thinking about this more I feel I need an actual die method. Again, thank you so much for taking time to reply to me. I appreciate it very much.
@@brandingforentertainers I know this inquiry is a year old. If anyone else is looking for a machine to cut difficult materials, the GLOWFORGE might be able to handle such things. This is just a suggestion as I have never personally tried it. Just found the information through my research into a cutting machine for things like chipboard, leather, and possibly metal - as well as things like vinyl. The glowforge might not be exactly what you need but it's the right direction for these sturdier materials. Thank you.
JC
@@cjheasley5713 No worries on the delay. I apppreciate the input. Even though I am not printing masks anymore I consistantly am cutting heavier things on a regular basis. I am now cutting a lot of rigid polystyene, PVC, and Corplast plastic sheets. I haven't looked into Glowforge but assujme it like a consumer grade CNC machine of some sort. Thanks again!
Don't forget thumbs up
Excellent! - Maureen
Thanks for this informative video! I just purchased the Sizzix Foldaway but I'm disappointed in the selection of Bigz dies for quilting. Is Sizzix moving away from quilting block dies?
DR
Love it
Personally for me, Im sold on scan and cut dx machines.
Can you use the Gemini dies on the Sizzix cutter?
Hi - yes you can - you just need to use additional shims in your "sandwich" :)
Nancy
Can you add a 1/4” seam allowance for hand appliqué designs before it cuts the fabric? Love the video, very informative. I wanted to check this machine out, so this video is great! Thanks
Joanne Sorrentino - yes you can on the Scan-n-cut- Nancy
Maybe I have to watch till the end, but do these tools cut strips?
Hi Patty, technically all three could cut strips, but if that was the feature you were most interested in I think the Sizzix Big Shot would be the best option. They have strip dies for .5 to 4.5" wide, you would need the extended cutting plates to go with the dies as they are 22" long.
Doesn’t the sticky stuff from the backing dull the blades over time this goes with any of the machines?
No it doesn't
towards the end of this I think I understood you to say and you pointed to the triangle die cut by Gemini could be used with the Sixxiz Plus... but I did not see how to do it... I have just purchased my first die cutting machine and I am soooo lost ... I purchased the Plus any suggestions.... the lost person here..
Yes, the Gemini dies, and any other thin dies can be used in the Sizzix Big Shot Plus - it's all about the plates and shims that you use. There is a thicker white one that needs to be used when you are cutting thin dies - I think that Sizzix has the layering instruction on their site - good luck !
I am full of questions after watching your video; learning so much from your video; thank you so much for sharing this information! I would like to know how do you use those cuts with the backing? Do you iron them onto another piece of fabric or they still need to be sewn down. If no sewing is required, doesn’t it come off when washing the quilt? Sorry, I’m kind of new to quilting only dabbled in paper crafts until now; so I’m very familiar with the regular BigShot what all it can do.
Hi Dagmar - When you add a fusible to the back of the fabric you do remove the paper backing and then iron them down onto your quilt top. You do need to stitch around them for them to stay on for washing. This can be done lots of different ways - I really like to do Appl-Quilting (that's not a real word I know but it's what I call it) Here's a video I did with that technique - hope it helps - Nancy

Hi, please i have a question about the brother scan'n cut (i have the 900) but is tried so many times to cut out scrappaper cuttingsheets. But always have troubles with the background wich is mostly have a color that overlap the image outsites... please do you know a easy solution to cut only the images, and scan these witout the backgrounds,..
The only thing i can think of is to make the outline of what you want to cut out a stronger line - trace it with a marker - that's my only thought.
can it cut wood and metal, how thick?
which one? The big shot - yes, the gemini - yes to the wool, the scan not so easily.
Have you ever used accuquilt?
Hello Kay, I don't own an Accuquilt but we did a video a while back at a quilt show with my friend Renee from Renee's House of Quilting in northern Michigan - check it out
Opps forgot the link :)www.reneeshouseofquilting.net czcams.com/video/auH7Ftm6gQc/video.html
I do appliqué and use freezer paper. It cuts that so I don’t have to anymore
Thank you so much for this fabulous review! Does the brother scan n cut, cut through stiff, wool blend, and regular felt?
Yes it does but I often times has to do two passes. In truth, the Big Shot cuts wool and felt better then the other two but they all will cut it.
what is the best machine to cut rag quilt
I would think the Big Shot
@@QuiltingWithNancy does it have it own die for the rag quilt or could i use the accuquilt die with it
Will any of them cut leather.
Yes, all three will. I think the easiest of these for cutting leather would be the Big Shot.
Be nice if you linked to websites to purchase all these items.
Trust me Catherine if I knew how to do stuff like that I would 😀. My gifts are talking and quilting - not so technical stuff 🤗
Can i use other brands of dies in gemini? Generic brand dies?
Hi Che - yes all wafer dies can go in the Gemini but not all will work as well on fabric as the Gemini dies do - Nancy
I heard the scan n cut mats are terrible what's your view
I have had no problem with my Scan n cut mats - i love the machine and the mats :)
Where to purchase the gemini
I see it on Scrapbook.com
What's your opinion on the difference between the brother scan and cut to cricut or Silhouette?
Hi Christine - all I can really say is they are different. I own a Scan-n-cut and not the others nor have i used one of the others so it wouldn't be far for me to compare them, sorry.
can I use sizzix dies in a gemini?
No, Debi - none of the Sizzix or Accuquilt can go in the Gemini
@@QuiltingWithNancy what about the thin one's ?
Debi B oh yes. Sorry I was thinking of the thick. You are correct - all wafer dies can be used in the Gemini. They can usually cut 2-3 layers of fabric with the metal plate.
