    I like how Zenos’s and Venat’s questions work both as fourth wall breaks and in the story. It works for the player and the character both.

    A beautiful note to see that while Meteion has returned to blue, she's still a darker hue. She has matured. She has accepted that darkness is a part of existance...
    For my feeling, Zenos has been made into a mirror of ourselves, the player. While Emet-Selch and Elidibus were our counterparts as Hero, each of us fighting to protect or restore to us what is precious, Zenos is the powerlevelling player who rushes into endgame to raid, extremes, ultimates and then cancels his account until the next content comes around.
    He doesn't get the banalities of those around him, the plot and story, he rather skips the cutscenes through to the end.
    But we, born into this world through the character creator and given a name... Bid to seek out strife and adventure through the MSQ... Was it worth it for us? And did we like that moment of intense battle at least as much as he did?

    I read somebody said that the sound of the beeping teleporter is like the beeping of a heart machine and that last long beep might be when Zenos' heart truly stopped. And I can definitely see that.

      I was just about to comment about anyone actually choosing anything but option 1. For myself, as much as I dislike Zenos, he hit the nail on the head because that is my motivation. I absolutely love the story, don't get me wrong, but the reason I keep playing after that is for the feeling I get from beating tough fights.

    I was thinking "man, it would have been so cool to have Tuna's hand below and Val's above Meteoin's hand" , but I can't imagine the work that would require or if it's even possible.. But that's still a really nice edit that you did ♥

    I have done Endwalker Part 2 twice just to fight Zenos again. So in doing so, I more or less proved him right. Both times I picked, "You're not wrong." I had to. It's not my WOL's prerogative, but maybe it's mine, and in the same vein, it IS hers.
    It's her hidden motivation that nobody else knows. This was pretty much the only time that she fought (alone) when she didn't REALLY have to. She could have gone on the defensive and not risked getting hurt so bad until the Scions caught up to her. But she didn't do that.
    I think all of our WOLs chose to fight Zenos head on then and there because they were either fed up/pissed off and determined to end this man's pursuit of them, and/or cranked up on adrenaline and excitement and had a moment of invincibility.
    Regardless, the WOL flew too close to the sun because they had to; they started the fight and they had to end it - but maybe they wouldn't have had to had they not given Zenos the satisfaction of agreeing to his invitation. The Scions (Alisaie, Thancred, and Y'shtola, namely) have every right to be pissed off at us. They're the ones who understand most the cost/benefit analysis here and that you chose to ride a very fine line without anybody to catch you if you fell.
    I do wonder if the WOL will end up doing that again down the line lol. They tried to in Shadowbringers but it helped that the Scions were in the vicinity. If you're light years away they can't smell your bullshit as quickly 😂

    I, on the other hand, look at Zenos and just shake my head in disbelief. "You fool. I run legacy content unsynced for fun. I have always been a storyteller focused on people and relationships. I was never here for a challenge, but you made the mistake of making me realize that trying to show you another path was putting the people who matter at risk. I can't tolerate your continued existence anymore because they're more important to me than trying to get through your thick skull with the idea that there's more to life than combat. Think what you will, but you aren't leaving this place if it's the last thing I do."

      That was about the attitude of my WoL. I never really liked him (as a person. As a character he's fantastic.) So my WoL flipped him the bird, told him "I've had enough of you" and relished in punching him in the face.

Let's just go already I'm starving." 😂 Coming close to death was like "...Shit, wait, no, I can't let this asshole be the one to take me out JUST because we're stuck in a pocket of oblivion and the Scions have no idea where I am! Hell no!"

      @@saltiestsiren I think for my characters it was more "I don't mind dying if it means that everyone else lives, but I don't want to die like this, out here, alone. I just want to be with my friends, the people I love so much." And maybe a little bit of remembering Yu-lon the Jade Dragon in Pandaria since my main was *also* my main in WoW. "The cycle neither begins nor ends with me. The time may come when you will have to defend all that you hold dear. When that day comes, hold fast and fight."

    8:25 Lovely editing there.
    12:55 I see the question pretty much three ways. First one is yes, you're a hero but you're also an adventurer. It's not always about saving the world. Sometimes you do stuff just cause it's fun. And if you can have fun while saving the world all the better. Also think about the last time someone called you adventurer. Not hero, not Scion, not Warrior of Light. Adventurer. When was the last time? The world is saved, the day is won. There's no stakes here except the lives of two men willing to put their lives on the line cause they like to fight. I wonder if it hit Zenos if he just came up to us and challenged us to a fight, never caused another world ending disaster with Fandaniel he would've gotten his fight a helluva lot sooner. Second one is maybe Zenos is right maybe he's wrong, but we're not going to risk him being a threat to our friends after this. And third one is just done with him entirely, we're not even going to engage with him anymore.
    16:09 Beyond the far edge of fate, ring blades dark and light. The trailer line.
    28:30 Checking to make sure your partner is breathing. How nice.
    31:40 I see it as something slightly different than the bog standard "Zenos is a psychopath incapable of emotions" thing. Remember he grew up in the rule of his great-grandfather Solus. He watched from a young age the high ideals of honor, duty, and camadaraderie reduced to petty tools that the Emperor used to be manipulate people to carry out his bidding. Is it any wonder he came to write all of those things off and focus purely on himself. It's like Lyse said. Zenos was once a babe in the crib. Something had to have affected him for him to end up like that.
    32:42 Life flashing before your eyes. Bad sign.

    Zenos is an ax-crazy blood knight, but his feelings towards the WoL is the closest he ever got to loving anything. My FC likes to refer to him as 'combatsexual', and as frustrating and/or awful as he often is, he's also rather pitiable. He's a sociopath without the ability to make true connections or feel empathy, but it is that feeling of belonging and companionship he has sought ever since encountering the WoL because while balanced on the razor edge between life and death against a true peer is the only time that he's actually felt anything. There wouldn't be any healing that, and he has done enough that any attempt at redemption for him would have to be absurdly overblown enough to break suspension of disbelief, so letting him die after another bout against the WoL was the best way to handle him.
    In a weird way, both Meteion and Zenos come to see the WoL as the embodiment of their hope.

Breaking the wall or not, some people may be like "no, I don't do savage or ultimate content and I want you dead." I only chose 1 because I wasn't allowed to choose "please go die alone somewhere Zenos".

  • @tazersmurf4689
    @tazersmurf4689 Před 2 měsíci +6

    I have to be an od one for sure as I never took Zenos's question before the fight as a wall break. For me when Venat asked us if our journey had been a good one was the 4th wall break. Where I sat there for a while and had to think if I thought if my WoL thought their journey had been a good one. I chose the 2nd cause fighting isn't why my WoL does the things they do. Even if my feelings of him have changed since I played 6.0 I still don't feel I'd choose 1. If I had to choose for myself I probably would have chosen 3 cause I was just sick of his crap at the time and wanted to leave him there.

    • @ShermTank7272
      @ShermTank7272 Před 2 měsíci +3

      For me, Venat and Zenos were two different wall breaks. Venat was asking if our journey (i.e. the story) was worthwhile, but Zenos was asking if the challenges we faced (i.e. the gameplay) were worthwhile. And while I'd say I have my little gripes and nitpicks here and there, I'm more than satisfied with both.

    • @tazersmurf4689
      @tazersmurf4689 Před 2 měsíci

      @@ShermTank7272 I guess for me game play is so far down the list. Or that I guess I combine it with other things. As I have played games where the game play was quite awful, but everything else about the game was so good I was able to ignore the game play. It also just feels weird when everyone got to this part they were all going oh man that 4th wall break. Of course it's the devs asking us the player. And as I said I never felt that as tho that's was what was happening. It felt strange to almost never hear or read about people talking about when Venat asked us basically the same thing. That it was there at least again for me where it was kinda like that comic with the Grim Reaper telling the person or the animal that they weren't just good but one of the best.
      There you are standing in front of a motherly figure who we know gets turned into a goddess asking you if you've enjoyed everything up to that point. Where it might as well have been Ishikawa if not Yoshida standing there and asking you that question.

    • @krysmphoenix6010
      @krysmphoenix6010 Před 2 měsíci

      For me, since Zenos didn't call us Hero, Savior, "Friend", or even Warrior of Light, but specifically called us Adventurer. In almost every damn RPG out there, and especially Dungeons and Dragons which popularized RPGs as a concept, the player is an Adventurer.
      Plus, in the 2022 New Year's greeting, YoshiP straight up says "However, FFXIV itself is far from over, and we've already begun creating new journeys for all you Warriors of Light─or adventurers, rather─to embark upon!" So to me, that just seals it that Zeno's question was always meant to be a 4th wall break.
