Its about a japanese legend. The west wouldn't have understood it at the time, and it would have been far too obscure for it to be worth releasing overseas.

Besides that - there was that bullshit Nintendo of America limit on how many games a company could release each year (Konami circumvented this with Ultra Games/Palcom brands).

Such a pity. I played this game on a NES emulator and I enjoyed it a lot.
