This begins a bit bleakly, but I hope you stay with me, and think about how this might pay for preservation work.
I really hope you are proactive now, in protecting the other eagle.
If this eagle has been so weakened, it is likely the other will be simiilarly at risk.
Much as it hurts now, it would be ideal to at least evaluate the state of the other birds supports - and if one has to be rebuilt, they will look better if both have the same strengthening work. Or new stone. Everything looks better when they match each other.
I would further strongly urge that while the eagle is down, you have it set in a mould - or these days, I imagine you have it completely scanned by laser, and you then reproduce by those 3D laser printers. You can use if any major damage happens in future.
You could even put reproductions up in place, put the originals behind glass, in a museum effect, in the house, where they are well lit and can be seen at head level, and the lead completely enclosedby glass, so not poisoning anyone.
The advantage of the scanning by laser, is that you can sell original size, half size and use them in small form, to adorn bookends, mounted on small pedestals for mantelpieces, etc.
I would get both done, in case they face a different way. (I haven't seen them up).
I would suggest that if you do this, you might be able to then sell copies of the eagles, in heavy plastic, to be painted and/or finished in a sandstone, brass and verdigris and even a black/rust finish, to sell, to help cover the repair cost.
I imagine having pairs of reproduction Mapperton eagles for sale, in many forms, over the next 20 years, with certificate of authentication, will pay for more than the original eagle's repair and safeguarding.

From another video, that I can't re-find, Julie told the story of Luke's past health difficulties and revovery--in which she played such a big part, and was such a rock. Just as encouraging, is Luke's being "stoic," as he calls it, during the trials of estate management. Love, love, love his stiff upper lip, roll-with-the-punches, and humor.
Much to be admired.
This is very relatable. Water damage in any house is expensive, destructive and at times, traumatic.

Julie, I am so sorry for everything this week. Please do not downplay your loss. I lost my home in a flood in 2004. 4 generations grew up in that house. It doesn't matter that people have lost more than you have. It hurts to lose precious mementos and I am so sorry. Much love from West Virginia, US. Thank you for sharing your home with us. 💜

Lost my 150 yo farmhouse in Ohio, US to a fire this spring. SO hard, but as I've walked it out, I keep connecting with folks who have suffered terrible acts of nature and lost so much more than we did. No one hurt and a lot of our possessions were recoverable. Some wasn't, some of it was my kids stuff or things with strong sentimental value, but no one was hurt. And could easily have been as it started in the attic over my daughters room.....and she was asleep at the time. Thanks for reminding us that we get to choose how we react to the hard stuff. Prayers for a fabulous set of yoga retreats.

My heart goes out to you and everyone else who have had fires. I had one in my kitchen some years back, and although thankfully I didn't lose much, it was quite traumatic enough and left me skittish around fire and so much else for a very long time. It's a life-altering experience, and I can only imagine how much more so it must be for those of you who have lost your entire homes.
No such thing existed at the time of my fire, but there is now a wonderful group on Facebook for people who have survived fires that I highly recommend, so helpful with tons of information and support from people who get it. You might want to check it out. I contribute where I can.
I am so so sorry you've had this terrible patch. It is surely very daunting at times but you are not sinking your energies into a gaping black hole. You are saving a delicate treasure for others in the world to come and be enlivened by. You are a wonderful family and the property is a blessing and curse, as many great things can be. We can only choose how we respond to things; I think you are all very strong.

All of the East of Australia has flooded for the last 3 years and we are experiencing flood events now. Some homes have flooded 4 times this year. We all feel your pain. 🇦🇺🥹 Love from Downunder.

My heart breaks for you.
We had a roof break once. We thought we lost our home. Yes, some things were lost, but another wonderful thing happened as well. Friends, family and even strangers in our church came to help. When everything was done, our home was better than before and we were blessed more than we knew. It all happened so fast as well.
You have such wonderful family, friends, community, supporters. All is not lost, surely. Don’t lose hope. To see you cry, I can’t bear it.
It is the season for miracles. I believe something wonderful is going to happen. Something that will touch and bless not only you, but all who follow you.

So sad for all the problems you're having at Mapperton . Poor Julie dragged into a conker fight which this ancient grandma suffered each November circa 1962 until escaping for Uni . Village boys throwing bangers and making us girls jump and then conker time when said boys would chase us and hit us hard on our outstretched hands ( a form of protecting ones face ) My advice 👀👀👀 run away .
I feel so sorry for you. Living in an old big house myself, with complicated old roofs, cleaning the gutters and overlooking the roof are some of the most important things to do on a regular basis. Maintaining these old properties is really ongoing work every day, as you show. Your channel is educational and shows what it takes to maintain historic properties, it is definitely not just cocktails and fun all the time.

Flooding several years ago in my Evanston (IL) basement. Sadly, many of my kids’ photos, art works, books, toys were lost. My heart goes out to you. ❤
My thoughts are with you all at this difficult time. Water is a most destructive force. Last year, we went through massive flooding due to multiple atmospheric rivers in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia. It was horrible.

I can relate having been the previous owner of a very historic and important pre-Civil War home in America. certainly not as old as yours but I know the feeling of having things crumble around your ears. I too as an adult man have cried more than once so Julie I think it’s totally fine that you are crying. It’s always good to walk away and have a cup of tea or coffee take a breath and relax for a few hours. Then put your gloves on and go back at it . I can tell that you both are very strong and I know you can get through this little bottleneck. you will be so happy on the other side

From someone who watched as water literally ran down the walls like a water fall in my mobile home, I can relate. I now live in a house that my husband grew up in,the walls are leaking here too! My son said it was because tree limbs had fallen on the roof and kept the water trapped. He took the limbs off and I asked him if the roof was still leaking,because it's been pouring rain here for three days. He said ya know,I didn't look. I said you might want to look,because we can't afford a new roof. Hopefully, the leak has stopped.

Oh my. It is so hard when you loose things that were from your children. I had a flood in our basement a year ago. We lost all the Christmas stuff my sister and I made when we were little kids. My heart goes out to you.💗
I feel for you. House repairs are stressful, especially when you weren’t expecting them. We had to redo a bathroom due to a leaky shower and then had to redo part of our roof. Here’s to a better 2023!
Emotions are normal. I’m so happy you all are safe. My father is visiting the Philippines right now and several people died in a massive flood recently. Since he’s been there, there have been two massive floods.
This shows me what a caring, nostalgic and loving family you are. History starts with keeping something that’s maybe just a treasure to one, but in generations to come, they rediscover a memento that is interesting and treasured by so many more. Imagine if letters and coronation invitations had not been preserved by loved ones in generations gone, to be enjoyed by your family.. & now fortunately by us too!! Julie I feel for you I lost all my memories in a basement flood like this and I cried like a baby...all that paper destroyed by water but what I learned is it makes you lighter to just hold the memories in your heart not in bins and boxes.

Awww.... my heart breaks for you guys! Picking up pieces is always deeply emotional for anyone. You are right, people in the US, Italy, and elsewhere are picking up the pieces of their lives due to storms or earthquakes. Good thing your most precious items (children's work) was stored in plastic bins. Not all was lost. Home ownership is a challenge but when the home is centuries old, no building codes, ancient building material and techniques; headaches are sure to abound. We are honored to walk with you on this trying and emotional journey.
I live in an old methodist chapel from 1899, my roof is leaking too! This represents work and money so as long as we have health, it's gonna be all good! Take courage Julie!
Julie, I empathize with you completely. Long story, but someone knowingly threw away two boxes of mine. They contained sentimental, irreplaceable things: pictures of youthful travels, old colleagues and sweethearts, my original piano lesson books, an entire work wardrobe, including very expensive clothes/shoes/purses, a long list of items that were a part of my life. It took me YEARS to get past this. Now I realize they were only things. Be glad yours can be saved, are still there 💕🙏👍😊

Julie, your expression when Luke suggested boiling the conkers in vinegar water was absolutely priceless . What a very odd pastime, this fellow American would also think! I love that you are always up for learning something new. I feel for you w water in the house, I have had soaked carpets, but not ruined children's art. That struck me in the gut, because I could so empathize. I will send up prayers that water problems are solved. Thank you for including us in your good times and those not so good.

You two are so terrific together and you will make it through this well and find yourself whole and well on the “dry” end. We went through major flooding in our home, due to freezing in Texas almost 2 yrs ago. Our pipes are just not coded to 2 below zero. My husband was sooo strong and amazing, I, the ER physician who deals with worse things daily, crumbled in tears. So I totally feel your pail Julie!!! And send hugs to you both. The silver lining, repairs and modern upgrades will happen. We just had, the last two nights, the first parties opening our home again! It was so special to us! And it will be for you. Wow! Sorry for the very bad week. We all have had bad ones too. Flooded cellars, car repairs that you fix and you don’t make it home from the repair shop before it starts to happen again! It’s part of life. And it’s an everyday occurrence in a house as old as yours! But it could have been worse. No one was hurt, no one was sick and you learned to play a game, that seemed to delight Luke! Looking forward to next week and better luck❤️
Awww so sorry to hear you guys are going through such a tough time with the manor. I'm sure it's hard work keeping an ageing structure going and costly repairs that you haven't budgeted for can be really stressful. If the things your kids made are ruined but still you can read them take photos of them and then toss them. You will at least have a visual record of the items that couldn't be saved. We did this with a ton of our kids artwork that we didn't have room to store. They can still see pictures of the artwork and things they made while in school and it takes up no space at all.

Those flat roof parts and the older lead roofs; I think it is time...on all the edges (when it is dry) to put clear silicone in each of those edges so that water cannot come through anymore. It can cure on a dry day and then keep it all dry. It must be done on every edge,of all the roofs. Best to protect it all as best you can! It will not be obvious, but be very protective. It does not have to be rocket science just fill in all the cracks and edges on the roof thoroughly with silicone. If you have to hire someone to do it ...just make sure it is done before the next extremely windy downpour.🌟

I had a major water disaster/leak in my house several years ago. Between trying to get things fixed and battling with the insurance company ….ughhhh. I’m so sorry - you are good people and it’s just a shame to see this happen to you. Whenever I go through a bad time I’m reminded of a quote that helps to keep me going. “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not ok, it’s not the end.” I hope things turn around and will be okay very soon.

So sorry to hear of the very tough week you went through, my thoughts are with you all. I am reminded of the time that all drains blocked on our street due to Autumn leaves during a biblical rainfall in Aberdeen just after we had moved into our new home which we then saw being flooded as a result as I arrived home from collecting our children from school. We were just gutted.
I am so sorry you lost some of those memories. I am a new homeowner whose basement floods regularly, which I can't afford, because I used everything to buy my house. I feel you.

My heart goes out to you. I understand the frustration and feelings. We had just moved in last year and had a sewer back up flood, losing the boxes we had put in the basement to unpack from.

So sorry for the water disaster along with the many others. It has seemed to be a month of disasters for what ever reason. My sister woke up to niagra falls pouring into her new apartment at 5 am in the morning, and it just kept getting worse. I discovered a serious mouse infestation in my parents pantry qnd garage, which we had to clean out, throw out the food they destroyed. And my other sister got sick with covid and while taking a bath, water startefd appearing in the kitchen, the microwave and wall. So my sharing is to let you know, youn are not alone in crisis events, we so understand.
So sorry for your woes with the flooding. In Australia we have had endless floods over the last couple of years.

Oh guys this is devastating and I’m so sorry this has happened. At this point it seems that all other restoration projects need to be put on hold and the roof and leaks at Mapperton needs to be addressed. I’m so glad you guys have such a great team and you will make it through. An idea for the new drains when you install them they make leaf guards that will help keep debris out in the future. I will be thinking of you.

We had a horrible flood in a basement of another home we lived in.
It was horrendous and the first flood in that basement ever.
We lost our children’s school work, their toys 🧸 that were handed down all of my Daughters Original “American Girls” with tea sets, beds and furniture. My Mother-in-law’s paintings of her children and my children framed and ready for hanging when the deluge of rain 🌧️ (that following from a hurricane that missed us) hit.
Sometimes there are no words 😢. But, their are people on your side of the pond who are losing not only their homes but, loved ones 😢.
Darn, this channel should be a TV show, with two such charismatic hosts. People love this stuff. Come on Channel 4, where are ya?!
So sorry the storms have caused such chaos. Julie the chosing of conkers and the conker fight brought back happy childhood memories. I was rubbish at it but it was part of the changing of the seasons in the UK and the school playground. So much better than being cooped up inside on a computer game. This touches a big fear of mine as a home owner. Water. Water leaks. Years ago I would wake up from a nightmare of a big busted pipe upstairs and water cascading to downstairs. Such a realistic dream. Then I would wake up and remember that I live in a single story home. Hope your repairs go quickly and smoothly.
I'm so sorry of all the rain damage! That is terrible. I get emoticnal when precious memories are destroyed too. It has happened many times over our 23 years of marriage and many moves. I am usually the one trying to get cheer up my husband with something silly. Enjoyed the conkers game! We may do something like that here, even though we don't have those trees. We can do walnuts or something. LOL!

We live in my husband's childhood home (built in the 1930s...brand new in comparison to Mapperton) which was a sad shack when he first took possession some 45 years ago. Fast-forward 40 years of marriage later, and we are still renovating/refurbishing our home. We have done much of the work ourselves, sometimes living without running water, heat or A/C (a challenge as we live in the serious heat & humidity of South Carolina) and always dealing with the elements' impact (hurricanes!) on wood, metal and stone. Keep on keeping on and we'll cheer you from across the pond. Mapperton is so worth it.

Flooding is just the worst! We have had a number floods in our basement, most just ground water but once (THE WORST) was septic field backup through a cracked main sewer line. I feel your pain and frustration, but old houses are unpredictable and you have to roll with the punches. Best wishes and warm thoughts for you all❤

I know it is terribly awful I get it. I have also felt like this. Now I scan everything in and just put it in a digital file so I can always remember it in future even if I cannot hold them anymore. Get a scanner and make a photo book of memories! Praying for a quick recovery from the wind rain and mud
My heart goes out to you! As someone who has dealt with a roof leak after a hurricane, may I suggest you invest in a shop vac... they are not at all expensive and they vacuum up water so you will not have to do that with a mop.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm renovating an 1100 Sq foot house from the 1950s and this is how most of the days feel. I cant imagine how daunting a home of this size feels!
I am distraught as I watch this video. I live in a 100 year old house in Pennsylvania and have encountered a leaky roof which my church was kind enough to replace. My estimates were over $10,000 7 years ago. I can’t even imagine what they would be today. Your problem would be nearly 100 times more that. Oh dear! All I can offer you are my prayers. God help you through this. Finances are difficult for me, but not too big for God. I will pray that your Patreon receipts increase exponentially 💖
It is always devastating when a flood happens - thoughts are with you - I am still waiting on my place to be fixed after the floods from end of February 2022 in Brisbane. All the best from Australia.
