    Good video coach. One thing that changed hitting for my 4 boys growing up was getting them to see the ball coming out of the hand of the pitcher and watching their bat make contact with the ball. Once that is figured out their hitting really took off.

I grew up in the sticks and didn’t have anyone to play with, but now after I’ve graduated college I’ve gotten bored and decided to play baseball with some friends just to pass some time. Never realized how little I knew about technique l, and now it makes sense why I was a garbage pitcher and hitter. Thanks for the vid!

    2 of the best terms I have heard of all the years I've played ball "put the pizza in the oven" yours is the hitting term and the pitching term is from hall of fame pitcher Nolan Ryan allegedly he said a pitcher must "fart on the catcher" in order to pitch right, anyone out of the know might think they are ridiculous but once they see what they really mean they say ah ha I have been playing organized ball since 1968 and you are one of the best instructors I've ever seen, thanks for helping me get my game back. I'm trying to figure out why your not playing anymore all of your lessons are dead solid perfect. I'm going to buy your program thank you!

    I just commented on a drill from this channel. I also believe the swing is simultaneously performed and there is a little variance where the hands and hips will be to drive through the zone and cover the plate. I always used the knob as a pointer to the ball after I twist and before i throw or punch my hands out to meet the ball at the point of contact with the barrel.

    Good video. I agree that a good stance is important. What I would have liked for you to include is information about hand position on the bat. Not location, but grip. I always gripped the bat in the palm with my bottom hand and in the fingers with my top hand. I found that this gave me max hand speed which translated to more power at the plate. You also make a great point about worrying about your swing while at the plate. I tell my kids that working on your swing is not something you do at the plate. That needs to be done in the batting cage. At the plate you trust your mechanics and your swing and focus on the ball. Thanks for great instruction.

    Yes, well done Justin. You highlight some of the most important points some people take for granted. I have two issues that probably need more exposure as far as I'm concerned. One, although you do it, is the initial back elbow height. I find this mechanically important for correct swinging. The other is covered in your other video about throwing, [which is also comprehensive] but not pointedly mentioned here and that is that power comes from the ground. I feel that emphasis by others on hips, shoulders and arms is exaggerated if one does not understand anchoring to the ground.

    • @DustinDavis
      @DustinDavis Před rokem

      If you look at major leaguers some have their elbow up, some have it down. I don’t think it matters much and I hate going to little league games where every parent is yelling “KEEP YOUR ELBOW UP” when it makes no sense and it is only a distraction.

  • @DustinDavis
    @DustinDavis Před rokem

    5:12 when I was in high school the Padres hitting coach (Nate Colbert) came to our small town and did a baseball camp for kids. He had us helping him. During one of the breaks he asked to see my swing. He made one tweak. He told me my arms should be fully extended when I make contact. The next day in practice I was cranking everything out of the park. That is the one adjustment I would make in your video. I remember several years later while playing softball my brother was baffled with my swing. He said it looks like I’m swinging so slow yet I kept hitting everything over the fence. He was always taught that bat speed is everything. I don’t know the science behind the fully extended arms but I know from experience it will give you more power!

    • @jeffreydelee2879
      @jeffreydelee2879 Před 3 měsíci

      I would agree with this minimal critique as well. Full extension met on plain with the ball is the key to power. If you don’t teach full extension you get a bunch of kids rounding out their swings. Not a fan of the slight upper cut in the video although what he is saying is correct I’ve always taught a neutral or level bat neither chopping wood or slight upper cut. The mistake of a home run or deep ball will definitely happen with what he saying but if you teach that concept to young kids you have all of them dipping the back shoulder. He’s not wrong but the concept is more age specific. Neutral bat until they are able to understand the concept of what he’s teaching. Great video though.

    Hi Justin, I agree with a lot of what you are saying, however I believe the hand path is important. You did talk about swinging the bat on the plane of the pitched ball. To do that, the lead elbow, the knob of the bat, and the head of the bat must also be on that same plane. It is imperative that in a rotational swing model, the hands are kept back. Centrifugal force will bring the bat head out to meet the ball with this rotational model. To start with the bat over the shoulder and not talk about pulling back with the top hand leads young players to have the bat pulled more over the shoulder when they try to use a rotational swing.

  • @Qitrainer
    @Qitrainer Před 5 lety

    There is effective feet stance to direct the knees so the hips can turn through the ball for in the end you want the hips facing the pitcher are the shoulders twist your body as force of action. Hips turn and shoulders rotate. Your so right the swing is build from the ground up. Having ground force so the hips can rotate with balance direct force and hips support the shoulder at impact with the ball. My self I broke the swing down by building up so have three areas to develop. Lower body that feet ground force and placement to support the direction of the knees so hips can turn to best placement and that is facing the pitch. Then you have upper body setup that with shoulder and its placement for the swing. Shoulder support arms in bring its force into the hands. Consider hand ergonomic for the bat to transfer force into the ball for hitting a ball you have recoil affect the hands and body has to deal with. Then have all the other development in timing but swing mechanics affect timing abilities for develop your timing around swing mechanics. You can disagree with me for now but I will prove it in time. its matter how intense a person wants to form their swing mechanics for the swing then release that coordinated muscle tension in the rotation of the body to hands. Hands are separate in development then body for body function is to bring force into the hands and have convert it to higher level. Thanks for very clear video.
