    -- I have it done every week/week and a half. Generally get 4.5 liters out of me with the vacuum pump method. We're like a little family in the IR; get to know each other, talk shop, even went on a couple of dates with a good looking nurse. Lost count how many times I've had it done, maybe 20. I've never found it to be agonizing. Little pain, sure from betting poked, but not enough that I'm not still talking and joking with the Doc or PA. On the other hand, I've heard people in there moaning and weeping. Guy screeched once as they were setting him up, and it turned out just to be the soft tip magic marker the Doc was using to mark the spot for the catheter. They hadn't even started the procedure yet. Everyone is different, I suppose.
    Where is the problems that cause this sort of thing can be significant. The procedure isn't bad at all in my opinion. I was in and out today, with bloodwork, and 4.3 liters trained in an hour and a half.
    So to you all that are staring this in the face for the first time: MUCH BETTER TO DO THIS, THAN NOT DO IT.

      Is it normal to feel abdominal pain after paracentesis?

    • @MarkJacksonGaming
      @MarkJacksonGaming Před rokem

      @@charlethjoygonzales8879 -- Yes and also muscle pain, sort of like a ring around your stomach and lower back. How bad it is I"d imagine depends on your size, how long you've had the condition and how much fluid they've removed. But again, even though I've had a lot of these treatments, PLEASE talk to a doctor. Don't take my word for it.

      My mother is having to have this done now on a regular basis because she has cirrhosis which is causing her abdomen to fill up with fluid. We have her in a supportive living facility now and are in the process of getting this procedure to be done with regularity. It's been a big headache thus far because we work and cannot take her back and forth.Thank you for sharing your experience, it gives me hope for my mother:)

      @Deb Nichols I had it done because I almost died last year. Its not a fun procedure, that said, the relief was immediate (when I woke up). Are you outside the US? If so, an ER attached to any medium sized hospital should be able to help you. If you are somewhere that its available, your physician can guide you ( but if they haven't, you may not need it). Don't tell yourself you need it and then it turns out its not for you. I had SOME removed this way, the rest responded to medication.

    • @SidewalkSurfer212
      @SidewalkSurfer212 Před 3 lety

      I hope you feel better! I'm writing from inside a hospital right now where a doctor informs me that unless told so, she'd see nothing unusual in my labwork to suggest a problem. "You're xjrjdlfh is a little higher but so slightly, i wouldnt hae taken action it, almost normal." So I'll say just 2 things: 1. Your liver is able to heal unlile any other organ, maybe the eyes. 2. Even with that in mind, do not not go tjrough this withoutna physician. I am not "cured" of cirrhosis, I've just slowed it down in a sense.

    • @hamd52
      @hamd52 Před 3 lety +1

      @Deb Nichols the video's accurate. For me, it seemed to take about 45 minutes, followed by maybe a two hour wait to have the fluid tested for infection, followed by another 45 minutes or so for a transfusion of albumin due to a low protein level. Try to go on a weekday, and during the day or else they may want to hold up on the procedure until morning or worse, the end of the weekend. I don't know if this is due to potential complications or because the lab has limited hours or what. The procedure for me was as painless as drawing blood, and really low risk, so don't let it worry you.

    • @hamd52
      @hamd52 Před 3 lety +1

      @Deb Nichols I had it done three days ago, and felt soooo much better immediately afterward, after weeks of feeling run-down, out-of-shape, easily fatigued, and sometimes in pain if I lay in the wrong positions. Good luck, and I hope you have similar results!

    Interestingly, I think I missed the part where they talked about administering propofol before this procedure. If anybody came at me to do this procedure without anesthesia that would be some Jerry Springer like conversations at bedside.

    They drained a little over 5 liters from me and I dropped 14 lbs. There were more liters left but it got too painful for me I had to stop. The site they chose to extract was by my ribs where I had the most pain. And my arm was under the drain so I moved and it shifted the needle in me and I actually cried out 😭 I wasn't in this position from the video at all 🥺
