    You're obviously in the market and have seen the two types commonly offered, smooth and hammered, but what exactly is the difference between these two Hammerite paints. Well it all comes down to the finish, and is as simple as it sounds, one provides a smooth finish and the other gives a hammered look.

    My approach is if the surface is rough and crappy I use hammered because it helps disguise it by sort of levelling it out. If the surface is smooth I prefer the smooth or satin finishes.

    My understanding was that the hammered paint had mica, broze, or aluminium powder added to it for added uv protection. Mica being the most common from what I understand. It makes the hammered finish paint a good choice for outdoor applications.
    Also if you sand the surface, or are already painting over a rough surface then you wont get those bare spots, in my experience. We used to call them fisheyes at work.

    • @8Jory
      @8Jory Před 9 měsíci

      Because I made myself curious saying the bit about mica I decided to double check the MSDS. Hammerite now uses aluminium powder instead of mica.
      Rust-Oleum uses aluminium flake in some of theirs, but not in others. You'll have to check yourself for the colour you want.
      The white Rust-Oleum spray cans have titanium dioxide in them instead which I believe will serve the same purpose.
      I only bring up Rust-Oleum because that's what's more available in my area.
      Anyways, that's enough of a paint rabbit hole for me today.
      Cheers!

  • @SH-vo5je

    I don't know if you'll respond but I'm looking to repaint some basic metal outdoor chairs (Tolix style) and I'm trying to work out if this will be good value for money or not. Nowhere seems to specify the length of coverage and I've watched multiple videos and people aren't stating what they used the paint for and how much it covered. I don't suppose you could suggest how many chairs this paint could cover? I did initially use a 250ml spray paint can from a local store but it barely covered half the chair so given the same ml I'm questioning if this will even cover half a chair or not and I have around 14 chairs to cover so if it doesn't cover more than one chair it would be costing over £140 which just isn't worth it when spray paint is around £2 and would cost a fraction of the price.

    • @TheBlokeCave
      @TheBlokeCave  Před rokem

      It will cover a good few chairs, obviously there are a lot of variables so i cant say for sure but it will go a lot further than the spray paint!

  • @TheDingfish

    Hi so the direct to rust range works fine for straight to aluminium, no need for a primer? There is a seperate range direct to galvanized metal but that is alot more expensive where I live

    • @TheBlokeCave
      @TheBlokeCave  Před 2 lety

      It has been fine for me but I do know that Hammerite say to use the Galvanised paint. I have had no problems with the normal stuff, but who knows maybe it will fall off in the next few years

    • @sherannaidoo2712
      @sherannaidoo2712 Před rokem

      Use an 80 grit sandpaper to provide a key for the paint to hold on to.
      If the plastic is very flexible then the paint will Crack and peel no matter what you do unfortunately.

      They are both very similar, you wont see much of a difference. If i had to say one then probably the smooth as it doesn't have the little pits that the hammered does where the paint is thinner.
