Montgomery Clift was born in 1920 and raised by an adopted mother with a family fortune. This meant that the future star had a fairly upscale upbringing. During the Great Depression, his adoptive mother lost the majority of her fortune. Still, the family didn’t want much. Montgomery had two siblings, and they both went to college. However, Montgomery had other plans. The burgeoning star made his debut on Broadway at the age of 15. Within a period of ten years, the actor began appearing in films.
While most stars signed long-term contracts with studios around the time that Montgomery came into the entertainment industry, the actor had other ideas. Montgomery never signed a long-term contract, with the actor instead using his success on Broadway to garner roles of his choosing. The performer was selective about roles, only appearing in films he deemed worthy.
Montgomery’s unique career choices paid off, with one of the actor’s first gigantic successes being 1951’s A Place in the Sun. The film saw Montgomery grace the screen alongside Elizabeth Taylor, and the two were dubbed the most attractive couple to have ever graced the screen. Sadly, a car accident that Montgomery suffered during his and Elizabeth’s second film together would alter the actor’s looks forever. Join Facts Verse as we explore how Montgomery Clift needed plastic surgery during his painful recovery.

A Place in the Sun...♡
A wonderful movie...
I loved the whole
movie...The story was so good an I loved how
Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Cliff fell in love ♡♡
The scene in judgment at Nuremberg.,he was just heart wrenching since we know what he was after accident
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
@@FactsVerse I would like to watch abouy my favorite actor Spencer Tracy...if he has had any interaction with Marlon Brando....what the post 1950 actors thought about him.
That scene with both Monte and Garland really tugs at the heart strings. Especially Monte for me. My younger brother died at a young age. He was good looking like Monte and, like the character, had a learning disability. 😥
Elizabeth I understand saved his life. She ran to the accident and helped him breathe
The two were scheduled to reunite for John Huston's film REFLECTIONS IN A GOLDEN EYE but the studio declared Monty "uninsurable", Clift suffered his heart attack, and the part went to Marlon Brando instead.
We absolutely agree! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Be safe and have a great day!
@@angel4everable I watched that movie I didn't enjoy Marlon Brando in the film
@@angelaholmes8888 Agreed. Brando winged his performance, and had no chemistry with LIz. Also, his character is supposed to be bisexual, which Brando was in real life but never conveys in this film.
It wasn't Clark gable it was Clift Montgomery, Marilyn Monroe had said those words to that Clift was more sick than her!
You got the Marilyn quote wrong - she said the only one more messed up than her in Hollywood was Montgomery Clift - not Clark Gable! Unfortunately, he looked really awful before he died, whether it was due to lousy plastic surgery, or overdoing booze & drugs, he was a mess.
What a gorgeous man may he rest in peace !
Truly, Montgomery is missed.
I loved Montgomery Cliff and Elizabeth Taylor together. Both were awesome actors. It's a shame that he died so young. I never believed he was bi-sexual, and if he was who cares.
Us too! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Be safe and have a great day ♥
Hes pure 100% gay actually lmao
Stanley Kramer stated that when he made JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBERG he used Montogomery Clift's injuries and pill use for the film's sake. Monty was numb on painkillers during his scene as the mentally challenged and sterilized "Mr. Peterson". Clift came off a more convincing figure shot just that way. The Clash paid tribute to Monty in their 1979 song, "The Right Profile": "And everybody says 'what's he like?'/ And everybody says 'isn't that funny?/It's Montogomery Clift, honey."
Intriguing information, thank you so much for sharing this. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
Please note that Elizabeth Taylor went to the car accident immediately after Montgomery Cliff's crash. He couldn't breathe. Liz had to pull his tongue out of his throat!
Interesting, thank you so much for sharing this information. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
He'd left a party at Elizabeth's he crashed his car, Liz rushed to the crash and pulled some broken teeth from his throat that he was choking on.
He was a gorgeous man.
Couldn't agree more! Thank you for sharing your views on this. In your opinion, what is Montgomery's finest role?
He was a very good actor. 👍
Absolutely, we feel the same way! Thank you for sharing your sentiments and for watching our content. Which of Montgomery's roles appealed to you the most?

A Place in the Sun
♡♡
I thought Clark Gable also died of heart attack, not substance abuse. His wife blamed Marilyn Monroe for the increased stress on Gable as Monroe was always late and needed many retakes.
I have always been told I resembled him which was an honor when I looked him up to see who he was! Amazing guy!! I will play him in his life story film one day soon 🙏🏼
There are some sites that say Montgomery Clift didn't have plastic surgery because all the damage done to his face was just under the skin & then another site says he did have extensive plastic surgery. Which one is right? I wouldn't think that plastic surgery was that developed during that time. Montgomery Clift was gorgeous before & after the crash. He most definitely should have won all 4 Oscar's that he was nominated for. I think Hollywood wouldn't let him win because he wouldn't play the "Hollywood Machine". Clift, Brando & Dean were the trifecta of the most gorgeous leading men & all 3 were the greatest actors in⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hollywood & would go on to change acting🎬🎬🎬 forever‼️RIP MONTY, MARLON & JAMES🫅🙏💔🤴🙏💔🫅💔🙏
His mother wasn't his "adopted" mother but his real mother.
What a beautiful man! Too bad he could never have come out.
Loved him in a place in the sun and from here to eternity ❤
Us too! Thank you for bringing back memories. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
Sal Mineo, I believe, is strongly assumed to be his significant other. What about a video about Sal Mineo, and how the two actors met and interacted.
WHAT A GEORGEOUS MAN.
We absolutely agree! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Be safe and have a great week!
Very sadly, Montgomery Clift passed away way too soon at age 45💔🙏💔🙏💔🙏💔🙏💔
Marilyn said "Clift" not "Clark Gable" was the only star more messed up than she was. You people...
Have any of Montgomery cliff fans ever visited his grave he was buried in a forgotten cemetery in New York some were his grave and the seroundings are all over ground extremely terrible looking cemetery so sad that he was treated like this in death please check it out his grave site its appoling rest in peace

Arthur Miller the sadistic S.O.B. wrote "The Misfits" paralleling each performers flaws, insecurities and personal demons. I hate that movie and Arthur Miller should have been jailed for cruel and unusual punishment.
