Matheran is a famous hill station near Mumbai and Pune. Matheran is a no vehicle zone and is known for its pleasant climate.
There are many routes to reach Matheran. Most tourists use the Neral to Matheran Toy Train or take car to Dasturi Naka (the nearest road head)
Apart from these, there are many more routes which are less known and one needs to trek from these routes.
To name a few of these routes:
1) Garbett Point via Dhoom Lake
2) Sunset Point via Dodhani Waterfall
3) Monkey Point via Dhodani Waterfall
4) One Tree Hill Point via Ambewadi
In this video, we planned to climb to Monkey Point via Dhodani Waterfall route and descend from One Tree Hill Point to Ambewadi after crossing Matheran. This trek can be done from the opposite direction as well.
Both these routes are less explored.
1) Difficulty Level: Moderate
2) Endurance: Moderate - High because of the distance and steep slopes
How to reach Matheran from Dhodani Waterfall ( Dodhani Waterfall to Monkey Point, Matheran ) full budget guide:
1) Take a Train to Panvel (~ ₹20 for single journey)
2) Panvel to Dhodani Village Auto (~ ₹500 one way) . There are also ST busses available with low frequency, please check the time. We took Auto as we were four of us.
Total cost to reach Dhodani Waterfall: 20+(500/4) = ~ ₹145
How to reach Matheran from Ambewadi ( One Tree Hill Point ) full budget guide:
1) Take a Train to Karja (~ ₹ 30 for single journey )
2) Karjat to Ambewadi Auto ( ~ ₹500 for one way ) . No direct ST busses available for Ambewadi. You can take a ST going towards Panvel and get down at Borgaon Fata and walk upto Ambewadi ( Approximately 7 KM )
Total cost to reach One Tree Hill Point: 30+(500/4) = ~ ₹155

Yes you can end your trek at Matheran and easily get Shared as well as private vehicle to Neral Station from Dasturi Naka.
Also as per the latest updates, Matheran has restrictions and many of it's points are closed. It's better to avoid it as of now.
