- Larry Mark Guthrie owns and operates a mini horse ranch in Pine, Colorado, but these aren’t your typical pet mini horses (if there is such a thing). They go by Chunky Monkey, Fancy Dancer, Glitter Blue (or sometimes Glitter Bug) and Patty Cake.

Lisa is correct. I have a miniature horse service animal as well. Dogs and miniature horses are the only two animals protected under the federal law. Any other animal isn't protected and businesses can rightfully refuse their entry if they choose to do so whereas if they refuse a miniature horse or a dog they are subject to discrimination law violation.
Braeburn Hilliard Some states protect other animals. For example, cats can be service animals in some states but if they go to a state where cats are not protected as service animals they won't have public access there.
Majestic Wolf Girls you are contradicting yourself. How exactly would you task train a cat?
Kirsten Sanford Cats can be great at medical alert because they have a good sense of smell. They can also be trained interuptions and responses. You can use positive reinforcement to train them, just like a dog.
Majestic Wolf Girls yes, that's true and you are correct. It gets a little more tricky in court cases though because depending on the states General statutes they may or may not be required to follow federal law. In most cases where federal and state laws conflict, the less restrictive law is the one that will apply. The problem I see with someone having a non-recognized service animal is that if they travel to a state that doesn't recognize cats as service animals, they can rightfully be denied entry/services. Horses and dogs are the only races/species that have been proven to to be able to reliably work in relation to a disability.
Braeburn Hilliard you don’t seem like a cool person
Fancy-Dancy, Chunky Monkey, Glitter Bug, and Patty Cake. They’re called service horses💕💕
Offended to see a miniature horse as a service animal?! I would loveeee to see that, it’s just absolutely amazing💜
Miniature horses are fine....much better than dogs, and pitbulls should be outlawed.
@YukiEditz dogs are incredibly dangerous. horses are kinder too.
@YukiEditz dogs are carnivorous, about 30,000 people mauled by them including innocent children and many were unprovoked. you’d have to provoke a horse to hurt you :) dogs are not smart compared to horses.
Mini horses are the best service animals❕❕❕
@@alienhomicide dogs especially bully breeds pit mixes, etc have maimed and killed alot of people and children. Dogs carry alot diseases. It boils my blood to see so many "service dogs" in stores and even hospitals. The dog industry is all about money and dogs seem to have more rights than people. Many young couples arent having kids but instead"..fur babies". Disgusting. Miniature horses bring calm and ease when people see them. And children especially as well as all people can really benefit from these noble horses. I hope that miniature horses completely replace dogs as service animals.
This man and his horses are adorable
I love horses 🐴🐴🐎🐎
Miniature horses seem like a good option for mobility. They are protected under the ADA along with service dogs and are very intelligent! It's awesome to see people using service horses since they're so uncommon in the service world
Yes 🐴🐴 I agree with you
Horses are much better than dogs and dont carry the diseases in their saliva that dogs do. Dog feces kill plants, horse manure fertilizes them. Dogs are a menace and dont get me started on bully breeds and the nutters who defend them.
ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) ONLY allows two species. Dogs and mini horses. That is ALL. as Service Animals. Federal Law.
some other animals are covered in other states
Majestic Wolf Girls nope, under FEDERAL law only mini horses and dogs are allowed to be service animals. Any animal can be an emotion support animal but those are not allowed in public places unless that place is pet friendly
Lisa Chociej horses shouldn’t be allowed. Ridiculous
Christy Marie , really? In America only dogs and mini- horses can be service animals? That sucks.
TheGlitchedMask well the animal has to be able to be tasked trained (and dogs are more easily trained than most animals) large enough to provide assistance, and be able to walk without a leash in a tight heel. Now any animal can be an emotion support animal, which is an animal that doesn't have to be specifically trained to do tasks. But they aren't allowed in non pet friendly public places. They only are allowed to be in houses/apartments that don't allow pets. A lot of people get these two confused thinking emotional support animals are service animals.
Why do his horses names sound like Ben & Jerrys flavors
LITERALLY
Lol
My horses name is Red Velvet
... oh
Yep you’re right!!!!
Omg you are!!
I have a horse named Moonshine. I'd totally try an ice cream named after That drink 😂
This is wonderful. These animals enrich his life so much. Let him be.
My family also have a service mini who helps a disabled individual with mobility. We wash him very often, since we live in a very city/urban place. My mini loves his job. I love to watch other videos about service minis because it makes my family not feel alone.
Mobility Service Horses are what Larry has. I'm glad he has them.
By law(you can look up more info about it) service animals can be a dog or a miniature horse
I have been researching horses all week and the thought of a miniature service horse is starting to sound like a really viable option for me. I'm disabled and I struggle with mobility to the point where it makes it hard to go about my day and shop in public. Wouldn't it be so nice to have the help of a little horse, they are so wonderful
I’m not in the least offended. Whatever works for this man! The minis are so cute. Chunky monkey will get there. Have faith.
Ty for this. ❤
I LOVE this man
He's a service horse ❤ I love the idea I want one ❤
Well. Service animals can only be Dogs and horses. Any animal can however be a therapy or Emotional support animal.
Some states allow other Animals, like ohio allows any species to be a service animal.
technically that's true, but it's wrong too. In some states (like Wisconsin for example) allow cats and other animals and SA. And the ADA only covers the USA. In Canada it isn't the same
www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals-2010-requirements/
Federal ADA basically gives the 'minimum' requirement of allowing dog or mini horse. But it specifically states that states can still legally include other animals as long as they meet the ADA requirements of being trained for a specific task etc. Yes, people often mistake/confuse Emotional Support Animal with Service Animals. But ESAs are Not recognized by ADA.
Those horses are beautiful, hope this guy gets better soon.
There’s nothing to get better. /srs
Adorable!
I have 2 miniature horses and their names are Jewel and Elmer. Jewel is a servie horse for my disabled nabor.
Elmer? That poor horse.
If i had a disability and i had to have a service animal, i would choose a mini horse, i own horses and i would love to have a mini/shetland with me
I find this comment kinda offensive, it's downplaying disabilities and focusing on the woohoo funzies of having a mini horse service animal. You don't get to choose what disability you get, and a service mini may not be fitting for said disability. You come across like some toxic horse/wolf crazy kid that likes to brag about how they own horses and stuff. You clearly want a service mini for attention
Be prepared to be stopped and approached 10x more than with a service dog. A mini service horse would draw alot more attention and is more likely to be refused access
@@sketchalater4656I really didn't interpret it that way and I'm sorry you did. I'm disabled and I use a large dog but dogs and horses are very different animals, so I see what this person is trying to say. Disability isn't always something you're born with and it can happen to any person at any time in their life. Who's to say this person won't actually become disabled and need a service animal? If they do, at least they know that an animal they already work with and hold dear could assist them in a public setting.
To be clear, I'm not trying to invalidate your feelings. I just wanted to share my feelings as someone who has severe disabilities and can't thrive without animal assistance.
great names haha
They are super adorable@
I love it.
They would be good for mobility issues
they are! many people with mobility issues use them
Yeah, so are canes, walkers and wheelchairs and they don't crap in the aisle or smell like a barnyard.
@@neighborscomplaint6859 for 1 service animals are trained to do their business when the handler says so. And yeah canes could work but imagine trying to move on a stick when you're shaking badly. Your service animal will respond to your commands and detect any issues that could be happening which canes and wheelchairs don't do
Kudos to you.
their names oh my gosh, this is precious
I thought mini horse was the next popular choice for service animal after dog. It's cats that are unusual because they're difficult to train.
They aren't actually difficult to train. People just say that because you don't train them the same as dogs and people aren't willing to put in the effort so they just mark them off as untrainable.
Cats are actually just as easy to train as dogs and can learn basically anything a dog can do
I love miniature horses.
Awww
Pony’s, why not they seem like gentle creatures.
I love this!! Your beautiful don't ever let anyone make you feel like a horse is not suitable as an esa animal. They are wrong.
Service animal not ESA
I am going to use a Clydesdale
Can't. Only Miniature Horses can be Service Animals. And dogs of course. Clydesdales are great though.
Imagine trying to pick up that horses shit in a poo bag 😂😂😂😂
Umm, yeah this man doesn't know what he's talking about when ranting. Miniature Horses have been service animals for a while now, they are the only animals that can be service animals other than dogs. There is no such thing as a service cat, service pig or a service anything, just miniature horses and dogs. You won't see too many miniature horses, because not too many people are aware of them, but there are a couple pros and cons. For one, Miniature Horses live longer. Two, Miniature Horses have better vision, but don't have the sense of smell dogs do. Three, Miniature horses can't normally live inside the house like a dog can, because they require alot of space to roam around when they're off duty, but if ur house is built with a lot of roaming space with very little walls and furniture, ur miniature horse may feel comfortable. Four miniature horses have very unpredictable behaviors around threats, so just be aware of this.
Service cats are allowed some parts of Canada
How do they train it against pooping in store
Same as dogs.
My mini is trained on command, he is a therapy jorse
@@tinaborland8407 LOL. Good luck with that one. I'd let you clean it up.
@@neighborscomplaint6859 It IS possible to train a horse to poop on command.
what if it shits all over the plane? Is that ok for everyone else?
it’s trained like a dog to not do that
Only mini horses and dogs can be legitimate service animals. The other animals he's seen are ESA's which don't have public access rights.
Depends on the State laws where he lives.
I would love to make my mini a service pony. I have some specific anxiety problems along with random drops in blood pressure, both of which can cause fainting. How do I go about making her a service horse?
They are generally only allowed when the issues can't be managed by a dog.
I think the wording is "in special cases"?
From what u just said, a small medical alert dog would work fine, it would also be easier to travel.
It's not as fun as it looks when u HAVE to take ur animal everywhere with you...
Service DogsFTW Oh, Gotcha. Thanks for the feedback!
@@wildlifesymphony No... you're mistaken.
Miniature Horses can be used as an alternative to dogs in any circumstance, not just "special cases". There has been diabetic detecting horses, guide horses and mobility horses, all jobs which dogs dominate and are not "special cases" for the most part
@@ashtongarrison2587 I would NOT get an alert dog if you have Postural Hypotension (Periods of low blood pressure when standing). If you have Hypotension caused by Addison's Disease (Primary Adrenal Insufficiency) and are Cortisol Dependent then an Alert Dog would be useful but it wouldn't alert to your blood pressure it would alert you to low cortisol levels so you can take cortisol meds when necessary.
As someone who has Hypotension from Addison's Disease (Not cortisol dependent), I have been considering getting a miniature service horse for balance and mobility assistance along with carrying my medical equipment for years. I am just now looking into getting one
Why not a dog?
1). My large dog has too much energy to become a good service dog
2). I don't want another large dog
3). A miniature horse that is taken care of can live long into it's late 30's compared to the lifespan of a large dog. That also means that it can have 2-3x the working lifespan compared to a dog.
The biggest challenge you are going to have getting a service horse is your anxiety. If you have anxiety it's not going to make things any better for you out in public with a mini horse. They attract a lot of attention. That's they main reason I've put off getting one for all these years, I've just now decided that the physical benefits far outweigh my anxiety.
@@coollikegrass2489
By special cases, I mean mainly for mobility/ guide tasking.
If the only thing the horse does is alert- then a smaller dog would work and not intrude any more than absolutely necessary in the world around u.
That's what I meant.

Did you know that there is service birds to??
theres not by ADA Law
@@larainewhite there is by state law. Ohio allows them.
Yeah, I knew. Pretty cool.
@First Last Not wrong. The ADA states that individual states can broaden the definition of a service animal, meaning ot can change what species and stuff can be a service animal. Ohio allows any animal that can be trained to do the work, and Wisconsin allows cats and maybe birds but Idk.
@@shinu1923 No, Ohio only allows dogs and mini horses.
just to all who keep making comments about the other animals as SA. Yes. in some states only a dog or mini horse can be a SA. but in other states, a lot of other animals can too. Also, the ADA only covers the USA, in Canada and other places it is %100 fine for other animals to be SA. Same with SA registration. in the USA it is illegal, but its different in Canada and other places too
Why not get a woman companion who will be there for you always instead of some animal.
Miniature horses, pigs, and monkeys are the only other service animals aloud besides dogs.
armani vhj only mini horses and dogs
А можно погладить лошадку поньку
How does he train transfer them with his health? If they are that good sad you keep them all to yourself verse helping others and do training transfer like. I heard they live 30 years so like idea that. But concerns here are I would think way to much health risk also them liveing in barn more dirty their paws. As their spouse be kept clean going out I thought
I think those questions are exactly why they say "in special cases only" when talking about mini horses vs dogs.
The only time a mini horse is allowed is if a dog wouldn't do as good of a job helping with ur specific issues, along with if it's easier for u to work with a mini horse.
I like the fact my dog shares a space with me, it's much easier to keep him clean at least.
Also, an animal will not just work with anyone.
My trained SD can do many things for me, he watches my temperature, my migraines, my asthma, seizures, along with dizzy spells and blood sugar....
But he wouldn't be able to do that with a stranger.
It would take time for the 2 to bond.
Maybe even more time than just training ur own SA.
The animal and person have to connect.
Along with how an animal is trained, some can only train an animal for themselves.
Others do it in a way the dog can be given to a human and begin bonding.
It depends on the person and the animal.
But, I help others train their SD and their pets...
I'm disabled.
The animals work on my schedule and forgive me for when I over sleep because my body had to recover from a seizure.
It's hard to explain...
But that's why dogs are amazing.
It also helps to know how to throw ur weight around in case u have to pin a dog ur helping with XD
He needs a mobility harness... Leaning on their halter? As in their HEAD?! Noo.....
Anna Coolman it’s his Choice. He doesn’t NEED to
no puns intended well he can't lean on their head. That's a safety issue for the horse and he really shouldn't do it if he cares about the thing.
Horse and handler are both still learning.
thats what i thought its kinda odd
but you do you man
Horses necks are incredibly strong. It doesn't really affect them. We put metal rods in their mouths and yank on it, why aren't you complaining about that?
His horse's names are like drag queen names.
not really as of choice only dogs and horses are protected with the ada
While his animals DO qualify as service animals, he needs to brush up on ADA law. Only dogs and miniature horses can be considered service animals. That he doesn't know this tells me he may not know how to adequately defend his rights if someone challenges him for using a pony as medical adaptive equipment.
I cringe when someone describes a living being as equipment.
Myishen Haines Well too bad, because that's what a service animal is in the eyes of the law; medical adaptive equipment. It is an extension of its handler's body, not its own entity. If it were its own entity, it would not have all the rights its handler has. Further, it's a dog/horse, so it is perfectly content to be considered one with its handler. That's how dogs and horses role.
or they may not be properly trained
@Main Street Boxer A pony is ANY horse that is under 14.5 hh.
exactly thank you!!!
15th
Mini horses and dogs are the only real service animals.emotional support animals do not have public access
Miniature horses should replace dogs as service animals. Anyone else agree? Not everyone likes dogs. Horses are better.
CATS CANNOT BE SERVICE ANIMALS PIROD i feel like people who actually have a disability should know this before saying it pout on the news
Parts of Canada allows service cats and some places in the US also allow service cats. By ada law states and county’s can have a broader definition of service animals, if you go to your state laws you can read on what animals can legally be service animals in your county
lol cute but WHY ONLY DOGS AND HORSES WHY NOT LIKE UM, C A T S?
Because when they allowed any animal to be a service animal ppl took advantage with their ungroomed, untrained pets.
They found nearly all the cat service animals were not properly task trained/ didn't follow the rules of being in public that were set out.
Many other animals were found to have the same issues.
Hence the restrictions.

@@runningthunder6923
Yes there's a reason pets aren't allowed in most stores.
Health hazards.
It's in the laws about keeping up with ur animals grooming.
They want attention and a mini horse gets alot of attention notice how they do daily Walmart runs.
As a disabled person with a condition similar to the one the man in the video has, I can assure you that no matter where we shop, we just want to be left alone. In fact, in many states it's a felony to interfere with or distract a service animal.
@@savethebeachmouse7112 then why do they bring small horse to Walmart everyday, here in wasilla Alaska we have a huge lady who walks her small horse around Walmart everyday sometimes even 3 times a day the horse looks miserable and sad it has no outside space the lady keeps it trapped in her small SSI apartment the only time the horse gets to see outside is the walk from the car to Walmarts door. Two days ago I saw she's started bringing it into the pot store. It's not healthy for the horse or the public yes I'm sure there are a few people being responsible with their small horse then there's a larger population using it for attention paid for by our tax dollars she has never worked never paid in and has collected ssdi and ssi, welfare since 16 years old, we are paying for her and the mistreatment of the animal and her 350pound weight she got there cause foodstamps have given her more then enough all her live and she has never had to work.
@@savethebeachmouse7112 also this is a emotional support animal not a service animal.
@@alyshiamorehouse5512 Stores can ask only 2 questions under the law. Is this a service animal/your service animal? What tasks has it been trained to assist you with?
It's illegal to ask what the disability is or to ask the animal to perform.
One Costco store saw a woman's husband taking the dog inside without her after she claimed it was hers and helped with "spells." Costco won after kicking her out and being sued. A service animal will not act up and must be fully under their handler's control at all times.
It's possible the woman you mentioned is trying to get some much needed exercise. If the horse isn't getting adequate exercise or treatment, call animal control and they'll investigate.
No one gets disability unless they have worked enough to pay into the system. Social Security reviews everyone on a regular schedule. The average amount is about $1,000 or less. There are roughly 10 million people on disability in a growing U.S. population of nearly 350 million.
@@savethebeachmouse7112 I think we are talking about 2 different things the woman I'm explaining has a emotional support small horse for her anxiety not a service animal and isn't walking she calls up gets a electric cart to her car gets in and rides the electric cart around Walmart with her small horse/ companion. No physical disability other then gaining weight every month. Also many many young people are getting SSI and ssdi claiming mental disability from anxiety never working or paying in. There's a difference between a service animal and a emotional support animal, and it's the emotional support animal being abused and disguised as service animal.
Bullshit....sick of this bullshit..nobody wants a horse in the store
