He watched that cotto fight when margarito had cement wraps in his gloves also. The only one he could compare it to was Dyuk ku Kim and Ray Mancini (where he actually beat him to death in the ring) and a less extreme one Robert “the ghost” guerrero vs yoshihiro kamegai boxing. Totally his own corner at fault there. A fighter wanting to continue fighting is normal, it's his job, he's the executioner of the plan for that battle no matter what. So it's on the corner to be the reasonable part to stop the fight if there is no chance of winning anymore, and to protect the fighter's health so the fighter can come back next time with an adjusted and improved skillset. Ferguson's corner failed him big time and let his body and mind get ruined to a degree he couldn't ever come back again.

  • @bigrandomun9267

    I think the Gaethje fight actually covered up the fact that Tony’s body is failing him. His body was starting to break after years of absorbing unreal levels of pain. Any last chance he had of being a top ranked fighter, Justin beat that out of him. To where now, in the octagon, he just looks like a fragile version of what he once was. He can’t move as well, he gets thrown around more but his refusal to give up just makes it worse.

    • @bigrandomun9267
      @bigrandomun9267 Před měsícem +76

      He’ll continue to fight no matter what until he loses the ability to. If the UFC release him, he’ll just get a contract elsewhere. No matter how many times he gets punched in the face or thrown on the ground, he still think he can do it but his body just won’t allow it. Mind of a champion, body of a 50 year old man.

    Tony had every disadvantage going into the Gaethje fight. He was 36, trained for the exact opposite style of fighter, had a very bad injury before that too. Tony got screwed by the UFC too hard through his career to call it quits. He was objectively the best fighter in the division for a while but never got to fight for the title because Conor and Khabib were the biggest stars in the company and therefore were allowed to hold the title without defending it for far too long . He asked Conor to defend or vacate twice and had his fight with Khabib cancelled too many times

    I think the problem stems from how that fighter affects his peers and those coming up behind him.
    When nobody knows you are great, they are easy to defeat. When everybody knows you are great, they prepare accordingly and they tailor that preparation to defeat you, specifically.
    There is militarism: "Do not fight the same enemy too often.", but in this age of information, with video and multiple perspective analysis, and mass production of equipment and even training strategies, it is nigh impossible to surprise another player.

    In some ways, fighters like GSP who did have losses in their career and immediately won the rematch and got their loss back, i feel like in some ways are better fighters than people who never lost to begin with. Like Joe said, having to navigate a loss in your career when you've only known success can be absolutely devastating to a fighter. So any fighter that can overcome that and come back arguably even better the couple times they did lose? Like GSP specifically. I just feel like thats a top 5 fighter in body mind and soul

    Anyone can loose no matter how good your doing in your prime but I guess some people have a big ego that when they loose they feel like they’re nothing cause they want wins every time and not learn how to loose sometimes understanding that we can loose no matter how good we are is the best way to overcome failure when you lost in your first time

    • @Alburr250
      @Alburr250 Před měsícem

      That’s exactly the point. When you let your ego cloud your thinking, and become big headed; failure is extremely painful and devastating. Learning how to win and lose with dignity will make you stay humble.

    • @jetleecruz6596
      @jetleecruz6596 Před měsícem

      @@Alburr250 yea but is not about being that humble you can have confidence cause that’s good for your mentality but over confidence can make you think that you are untouchable until you get a L for the first time and you fall of because you realize that you’re human like everyone else cause he’s saying this like it happens to everybody and I don’t think that cause boxers like Mike Tyson Muhammad Ali lost in their prime and that dint let them they came stronger then ever because every time you loose you learn and even Connor mcgregor I know this might sound controversial cause he’s know for trash talking a lot to he’s opponents but when he got beat first he dint go down like the rest of other fighters cause he knew he could lost like I know that he’s a villain and he says the most disgusting things to he’s opponents putting family in the conversation which is why I don’t respect but at least he understands that he can loose and come back from a lost that’s the only respect I have for him but other then that I’m not gonna say he’s a good guy. There’s also a saying that says is ok to have fear sometimes cause that means you smarter than the guy who’s very overconfident having fear you realize that your opponent is dangerous and you are aware of everything that’s he’s capable which gives you battle IQ in the fight while the guy who’s confident don’t feel any fear but will lead he’s guard down cause of he’s overconfidence he’s unaware on what he’s opponent can loose and that could give him a big lost cause of he’s blind ego

    This happened is many sports, the problem is fighters can’t take that much punishment during the losing streak.
    If a batter misses several balls for a bunch of games, he’s in a slump and nothing else happens.
    If a fighter is in a slump, he gets destroyed several times.
    Just not much chance to come back from that
