    Teens also looked and were happier and free, social media has ruined that for them because they’re constantly comparing themselves to others. It’s like with prom now, a lot of teens feel bad if they can’t spend thousands to show off for prom. When we went to prom we spent about $500 on everything but today these parents are spending thousands of dollars to show off on social media, It’s absurd.

    You are definitely right! Teens now are over sexualized. I love your channel, love being reminded of 2000s nostalgia. I was a teen in the early 2000s and we barely knew what social media was until MySpace. We just wanted to have fun, hang at skating rinks and sneak in movies lol. It’s sad how teens now really don’t understand the simple times it use to be.

      I’ve always felt like this, I was a 2000s kid and I couldn’t not wait to be a teenager because it looked so fun back then. I was a teen in the 2010s and it was not fun really at all. I was a teen when social media started to pop and it seemed like all the kids wanted to do was post drama on instagram and FB and then eventually Snapchat came along around 2015. It just seems like today has a very dark energy now, like a lot of teens are depressed.

    I miss the early 2000s when I was growing up. Now having a daughter that is almost 12, I tell her what it was like when 20 years ago when TEENS WERE ACTUALLY TEENS. I just want her to enjoy her youth because that part of life is so short that it will fly right by if you blink.

    So true everything is so very over sexualized. Euphoria gets on my nerves yes there are kids in school that smoke and act promiscuous, but it's too much. Most teens and kids cannot relate to that. I also feel like kids and teens find Disney/Nickelodeon lame and I remember in High School still having discussions with my friends about the latest Disney/Nick Shows.

    • @iconicallyiconic
      @iconicallyiconic  Před 9 měsíci +19

      Yes! we couldn’t wait to see our friends to talk about all of our favorite shows especially during lunch time. I will say the new nick/Disney shows aren’t as good as when we were growing up

      Yes!! All of this!! I never could into Euphoria because 1. I don’t think Zendaya can act, and 2. It’s just a typical depressed teen cesspool show that’s popular nowadays.
      Unfortunately a lot of teens are very grown now and this may have some truth to it. I did not fit in well with my peers starting in middle school because a lot of them where very grown, vulgar, and unpleasant just like they are in that show

  • @diamndz1021

    unfortunately I didn't get the experiences a lot of people had at that time because I was born in 2001, and didn't pick out my own clothes growing up. (before I had said couldn't, because I was under the impression I wasn't supposed to. but apparently I wasn't vocal about it?) Now at this age, I'm looking at some of these older styles I pretty much missed out on/didn't get to wear in jealousy 😭. Even still with those styles, there wasn't a lot for bigger kids like me. I couldn’t even shop at Justice! 😢 but I absolutely love the messages in these videos. Teens (and kids in general) don't have anything positive to look up to nowadays, not even just with fashion. Even with what may have been going on back then, at least there was some balance. I especially wish I didn't have to be around this social media stuff because it is vulgar, draining and disgusting what they're promoting. Plus everything is so copy-paste. Even what's being promoted to adults concern me deeply...And I absolutely love what you said about the label/brands, people are obssessed with them, and it doesn't do anything significant except make one look tacky

      Yeah I feel you. Everything today sucks but the fashion now is basically 90s and 2000s which is the only good thing. I hated the skinny Jean era of the 2010s. But I definitely feel like I don’t fit in with this generation at all. I should have been born like 25-15 years before I was.

    I’m gonna be a little critical of this. As someone who was born in the early 90s and grew up with a lot of this stuff, I feel like this take is way too idealized. The early 2000s WERE NOT that innocent and freeing for tweens and teens. This idea where tween/teen girls were free to be kids is just false. I mean first of all, the Olsen Twins countdown to 18, ew. R Kelly openly and proudly pursuing Aaliyah talking about “age is just a number”. Britney Spears posing in her under on the cover of a magazine at 16 and every interviewer asking if she was still a virgin. Some of the biggest celebrities people looked up to were Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, and Nicole Richie. All of whom it was an unspoken but known secret they had EDs to look bone thin, all in a race to look the skinniest and wear the least. The super low cut jeans, my God the low cut jeans. Culture was also very tabloid focused, all of which held deeply toxic values that kids were eating up. And if you were at all curvy you were immediately locked out of the culture and stuck shopping at JC Penney with your mom, well away from Limited Too. I definitely appreciate some fashion from the 90s (and I like to incorporate a hint of it here and there) but there was a very skeevy underbelly to it that was regularly fed to kids.

      You’re not the only one born in the 90s , I too was born in the 90s and remember alot of the things that were going on. HOWEVER this is about FASHION and like every generation there is going to be some disgusting creep who preys on young women. Depending upon your culture you weren’t looking up to Paris Hilton, LL and Nicole, I know in the black community we weren’t, maybe a few but not all. This video specifically is talking about how we dressed, not all of the things you mentioned, which there are numerous videos on this here CZcams that break down those things if you’d like those type of topics. On MY channel I like to keep a positive vibe ✨ and though I speak on some things I don’t dive into certain topics that can trigger people, especially those things you just listed. I like for people to escape all of that when they come here.
      And I and other kids around me were FREE to be kids, maybe not celebrities so much but we were allowed to be children.being a celebrity kid and a normal kid are two different things , it shouldn’t be however it was/is and In what part of my video did I say it was all innocent ?? 🤔 different cultures , different backgrounds etc. I can’t speak for everyone else just like you can’t.
