The hole in the points cover is caused when you make your own flywheel puller, have to remove the starter pauls, and screw the puller bolts too far into the flywheel. Ask me how I know.

Funny thing, I was thinking about the expression "dipstick", and this is a situation where you would have needed one.

You are so right that's what I did the bolts were a little bit too long and that's what caused the hole

Can the manual oiler be added to that saw easily?

Hi Leon. I have an old blue Homelite like this one. Its a x12. There is 3 screws, lo, high, and another one higher up. Whats the best way to tune it up with out blowing it up? What is the higher up screw( closer to the air cleaner) for? Thx. Enjoy your content.

The top screw is your idle speed. Set it so the chain doesn't turn. Turn your high and low in til they just stop, then back each one out one full turn. Usually you need a little more on the low screw. And a little less on the high. Make your adjustments in very small increments . Stay fairly close to the one full turn baseline.

Can points be replaced with an electronic one ?

  • @darrellepickering8433

It's almost impossible to get good points anymore. What you do find is a lot of CCCP junk. If a module can be fitted go that way. Now bear in mind that's NOT gonna fit where the points were but pick a good location where it can be securely mounted & free from pinching, etc. It'll make a saw far different than the 1 it was. That being said, does anyone have a lead on ign parts for mid-'70s/early-'80s Echos? There's tons of those out there with 2-piece electronic systems that are no longer available.
