  • Using a Hi-Lift jack is the simplest and easiest way I’ve found to pull a fence post. To prevent the jack from sinking into the ground support it using a scrap board, then wrap a chain around the base of the post and starting cranking. It’s amazing how easy this is, even though I manage to make it look difficult (I’m talented like that).

Please be careful when using a hi-lift jack as they can be dangerous. Keep a firm grip on the handle during operation. Always use your brain!

Would this work on old clothesline poles with concrete on the bottom?? 🤔🤔

Without having tried it, I would say... probably.
The base of the jack is basically right up against the post. Depending on how far the concrete extends from the post, what may happen is the jack exerts a force down on top of the concrete while you try to pull the post up. And if it’s a slick metal pole the chain may try to slide up the post instead of grip it (maybe a strap would be better if that were the case).
      I think it’s worth a shot!

Hi I've been trying the same thing and I have very hard clay after 18/24 inches but this didn't work for me because mine are in about 4 feet in the ground. Yours seems to be in only 2 feet. I'm wondering if I can still make this work. It was super had and it was too tight up against the pole as it moved forward. Hmmm.

4 feet is a lot, hopefully you can get it without having to dig it out.

@@GWPHomestead Well I used the farm jack but put it on a 4x4 that was 3' and that was sitting on 2 "legs" 4x4s that were at the left and right ends which formed a 3 sided box or a 'U' if you're looking from the top down and then attempted to pull it out. My clay at 2' feet down becomes like rock which is why septic had to be aerobic.
I even used 2 8' 2x4s that were connected thru the top of the farm jack with a 3/8 rod to serve as bracing "in front of the pole". I probably should have dug out the first foot around it.
Nope, it didn't budge and the farm jack began to warp. NUTS. So I'll wait until I rent the skid steed and get it out when I clear the rest of the house pad and driveway. UGH. Can't say I didn't try. Now I'll just have to clear the land first before doing the fence, which I was foolishly avoiding. Thanks for the video anyway.
