  • Here is an episode of my Pro Stock Treasure Hunt. These are possibly Bob Glidden's heads, UR-19 Intake, High Port 351 Cleveland 4v Heads, and Holley Dominator Carbs list number 6464. The hours that went into these heads and intake is unreal. Must have 200 hrs of brazing the intake and exhaust ports, and the UR-19 Tunnel Ram Intake. I have been doing a ton of research. I have come to find out more info.... I will present my findings, with a head to head comparison of various Pro Stock Heads, and pics of what I have found out. Stay tuned......

WOW, this is definitely a part of nostalgic history and I can’t wait to see the build. I’ve been to the Glidden home and garage back in the 90’s and met Bob and Billy and Shannon. It was a week I’ll never forget. I seen all the big blocks setting in the corner of the garage but most of them were covered up so I just looked from a distance. They were 3 setting there together, complete!!! The Glidden’s are great people and can cook like no other!!!!

Ha, that brings back memories! I had a 71, 72 and 73 fast backs with clevelands. After destroying them from being a dumbass kid street racing, I got a 66notch. Had to use a torch and sledgehammer to make room for the C. Used 69 mustang headers. When I was running stock cars we had a cyl pressure rule, 165 max. I ran an open head on one side and closed chamber on the other, eventually got caught, 145 on open and 230 on closed! Lol! Took out 5 cranks in 8 races until I was told about the oil mod, restricting the top end oil and running a line from the sending unit through the back of the intake valley and feeding the cam tunnel. Great old days!

What i find really interesting...is that they came up with the same conclusions that we did playing on the flowbench...filling the back of the bowl and the floor of the port really allowed the Cleveland to move air above .625 lift....The heads we played with would go turbulent at around. .630 lift and lose flow...with the modified port it would carry clean to .750....This proves we were on the right track 30 years ago...

The guy was trying to interview him and Bob was all nervous and blowing the guy off until he got that jacket over the intake. The announcer said that was why he covered it. I asked Bob at the 100th anniversary of Ford Racing and he said everyone was trying to see it. If I remember correctly he said he wanted everyone to think the intake was the magic piece. Who knows, he was a grudge racer, hiding and lying about parts till his death. Cool guy tho.

Hi Tim, you’ve got quite a fine selection of classic hardcore Cleveland parts and they are just as I remembered from spending many hours in the pits during the seventies. I was observing the legends of Cleveland Pro Stock Drag Racing as they went about their torrid paced routines of precision chaos , better known as thrashing between rounds.
Your video presentation was very well done with smooth camera work and adequate lighting along with plenty of dwell time as you described the various features that makes it all so unique. The most noticeable difference between what you have and my iron high ports is the intake port size. My Endyn port floors are raised which reduces the overall height and the walls are ported for increased width. These changes make the intake port almost square with the height just 0.125” more than the width. Very similar to yours, there has been extensive work done to fill and contour the port turn behind the valve guides.
I know that making these highly informative videos takes a lot of your spare time but the results are well worth the effort. I appreciate everything that you do, my friend !

Everything was great until I ordered a smaller pulley for the blower from Dyer's. After a couple of days tearing up the streets with a lot more boost, it was throwing out oil through the exhaust. After tearing it down found several broken piston rings. Oh well C'est la vie!

So here we are in this off the beaten path General Store 1500 miles away from where we live picking up some supplies groceries etc, and low and behold on one of the shelves are half a dozen models of Bob Glidden's winning Mustang which is Konigshofer Motorsports's newly acquired race car. Joe starts freaking out at the coincidence of only these model cars in the store being displayed and its his car and he had just informed me that half an hour prior to entering the store of their latest car. Not that it’s relevant to your project, but I thought you might get a kick out of some Cleveland lore. In the mid-70s we ran a Cleveland in a circle track, super modified. This was back when no one ran anything other than Chevy’s. The fun part is that we ran it backwards, to try and get more bite to the left side tires. Also, there were no injectors made for the motor, so the car owner made a set out of a dual quad, tunnel ram manifold. Also, there wasn’t enough room for the cam gear on a gear drive setup. Ironically, being a full gear drive cam, typically, you’d have to put a reverse gear on the magneto. But with the motor running backwards, the need was eliminated. We had to hog out the front of the block and weld in a plate to reseal everything. We kept having problems with the thing burning main bearings, I would imagine from the oil holes in the crankshaft being unsuitably located for the reverse rotation. It ended up being an experiment that wasn’t particularly successful.

    Hi Tim
    I Like your channel.
I ran a 351 c in my 1989 mustang in the early 90's...and my engine guy was-is a Ford cleveland enthusiast...(also does a bunch of 428 cobra jets in super stock as well....1 national record holder). Live out here in NJ.
Interesting old Heads, Joe had a set of those at his shop for years...with the plates.
    I ran a set of C302b on 11.7 to 1 with a mild roller with 0.697 lift with a jerico....ran 10.17 best.
    I moved up to a 398 inch 14 to 1 motor in 93, car ran 9.72 @140 best @ 3250lbs 1994
Joe got a super stock 351 head down at the shop, and I asked what the valve angle was.......measured 9.5 degrees. They really spent alot of time and expertise on the cleveland heads in the 1960's.
glad to see interest still out there. I always wanted a set of those A3 heads you have, never could find them.
Today, there is just so much available.
    subbed. good luck to you.

I sold that motor in the 90s last motor was a 398 inch c302b..svo block .made about 725...basic engine. 9.70 @140 @3250lbs with a jerico. The a3 heads were bigger in volume, but not available in 1992.
I Have a 427 sbf with afr heads now in my street car....686 hp on the dyno...12 to 1.
If I was going to do another high hp piece, it would be a set of d3s or those Higgins heads. easy 900hp @430 inch. Think about that.
I like what your doing and your heart...They had alot right in the heads on the cleveland...but I wouldnt do another Cleveland block, the dart blocks are soooo good. your at the edge on power without exotic sleaves and thin wall block... but In your car...the nostalgia is there. LOVE IT.

I’m referring to the fact that back in the good ol days when it came to the Cleveland stuff was the idea that you had to have a 4V head. And while yes they had there place, a well worked of 2V heads were probably more times than not a better choice. A guy by the name of Mark Stahl showed me that first hand. Nice to see someone still run'n this stuff...Mr. Cushman used to visit us @ R & R Machine, Londonderry, NH...I'm sure you know about the following...
1.) "Posting" the deck surface stopped head gasket failures on high compression / endurance applications...
2.) The high ports only fixed high lift flow...real problem was the seat area and creating a venturi...
3.) Angle Mill/Machine was required to make HP on destroked lbs/cu/in classes...mid/low 40cc's...
4.) Intake rocker stud & pushrod hole relocation to allow port widening...
5.) Intake port roof epoxy/brazing/welding to allow for a raised port...
6.) Proper intake port short side to get rid of the dreaded "stall" condition...(some try'd those wings)...
7.) If Al Mathon @ "High Speed Salvage" was your buddy...there were NO LIMITS...
8.) I would go to extreme measures to raise the piston top ring land...seats/valves/cams/molds/minimum thickness...etc...
9.) Only advantage of the cleveland block was the ability to pull the intake to check the lifter/tie-bar issues between 9500rpm+ rounds without drop'n coolant...
10.) Ford Motorsport/Aussie block was eventually dropped due to #2 Main cap failures in endurance applications (like NASCAR)...seen billet one's crack as well...also block would crack in this area...NASCAR External #2 main cap that exited the oil pan and clamped to the side of the block...been there...done that...
      11.) If your not run'n 4.155 bore...oh well...
A heads...B heads...C heads...kinda liked the C302B's myself...when that aluminum stuff first came out John Healey from Tasca Ford fame built a 351-C powered foxbody Mustang that terrorized NHRA Comp. Eliminator. #1 qualifier everywhere it went.
351-C is the ONLY engine to ever be handicapped by the NHRA...(Comp & Modified Eliminators)... .2lbs/cu/in w/1-4bbl & .4lbs/cu/in w/2-4bbl...and this effectively ended the migration of chevy racers to this powerplant...
I'm sure I've forgotten much more...

If you remember back in the 70's all the Pro Stocker's had covers on their intakes to hide them from anyone. That was where their secrets started at running down to the heads which every one knows is where it all happens. Bob was a straight up kind of guy, who I believe never cheated a day in his life. If he could not beat you that day he would work that much harder to do it next time. And that is how Billy is today. I believe that front plate has been added after it left Bobs property. If it was done when Bob had it , it would not have been left like that with the weld not smoothed out. Why would he go through all that work to make every thing smooth and leave a raw weld. That don't sound like Bob. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think they ran the big caps back then.So he would not need to cut the manifold.

Runners & flange plate seem like 4V still, can’t make out the repair work in that area for it be suited to high port heads?
Or am i missing something here 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have to look it over again. But heads do have epoxy, from memory they line up. Would have to look again, but when I send to Morgan to go over if there are any issues with fittment hopefully gets taken care of. Good luck with the nascar build.

@@DragBoss351Cleveland right on, they take up a lot time & not to mention the $$$ 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️.
Yeh fuel system vid will be a good one.
I run a similar lay out to your previous set up....
I have a #12 Tank to Pump, #10 Pump to the Front 4port reg, #6 to the Dual Carbs....
(MagnaFuel 500) & the only return is from the Pump back to the tank, which is adjustable & close anyway.
The BG is a good pump, but from memory down here were notorious for not being the best in continuous use🤷🏼‍♂️

@@69JANKS Yes real similar. I just have a bypass regulator, instead of from the pump. The BG was and is a good pup, just have had some issues, and was offered the new pump, and bypass regulator, so I went for it. Your set up nice for sure.
