  • The log showed on my instagram profile was cutted and splited in march 2021. It was about 120 years old wild pear tree. As bonus - the wood was spalted. After spliting all the pieces were drying outside, in the shaded and
airy place. Today it is the time to prepare some hand plane billets and let them dry in the workshop for 12 months or more.
The process is nothing fancy, just some of you asked me about it so here is the video :)
I have almost no time for the workshop, but don't worry - we are good and healthy. The weather does not allow renovation work outside so i hope i'll make some projects soon :)
Spalted wood is a little bit weaker, but i'm gonna stabilize it and build moving fillister planes. The wood looks awesome and i think the planes wiil look the same!
    Have a nice evening :)
    Cheers!
BTW. I don't take orders and usually i don't sell my planes.
The most sure way to get some of them is take a part in giveaways for my supporters.

I have been working on my house that is taking way to long. Really I have been working on getting the shop areas set up to make the house renovation go faster and cleaner.
I also have been gifted a couple of Osage Orange trees.

The most lovely and wonderful part of your utterly useless and boring video is when the little lady comes and says something, which I don't understand at all but repeated the video many times to hear her. Children are the most beautiful beings. 😍. I have been watching your videos, copied one of your strike block plane, tried to send you the picture but in vain I am not good enough with networking. 74 now, just finished my 18" band saw took me 2 years to make 407 kg. of new and old iron all put together. Tomorrow or today will give it a test run. Although I just started as woodworking as hobby but with the passage of time I'm ending as tool and machine maker. You are God gifted, love the way you make woodworking tools. Keep it up, it keeps your mind healthy and wealthy with sound knowledge and peace. Regards and best wishes and love ❤ for the little lady.

The lack of black spalting lines makes me think it's a liberty to call it spalting. The yellow white splots is more rotten than spalted. Was it soft? Is a soft wood good for planes? I prefer as hard a wood as possible for wood planes for durability.

Stavros Gakos In the next couple months I will be turning a large Shag Bark Hickory been down over a year into lumber using a chainsaw mill that will leave lots of 6-12 inch limbs that are to small to turn into boards. If you are willing to pay just the shipping I will ship you a 6" tall x 12" wide X 12" deep of what size rough cut as you request for just the shipping costs to you as if not put to use just gets burned up in the fire pit.
