I'm Italian, I live just 10 miles from the Slovenian border, I confirm that it is a small state but very interesting and with lots of things to see, I often go there even just to go to the restaurant for dinner
for those unfamiliar with Slovenia, don't forget the spas, the Postojna caves, the food, wine and beer and spirits

As an American observer of this great little country, I think the Slovenian people and culture are its biggest assets. I am astounded at the many-talented Slovenian musicians and performers, highly educated, and plainly good people. I became a huge fan of Oberkrainer music some years ago, and I find myself feeling envious of a country which reminds me of a time when America was good and purer. That is now gone in America, but Slovenia lives on. I deeply hope Slovenia protects the Avsenik influence upon its culture. ❤🇸🇮
You should try their restaurant at Begunje na Gorenjskem, 2-3 km from Bled.
Slovenia - beautiful country with wonderful people. Ljubljana is the most relaxed capital i ever have seen. Was in the Triglav region for hiking some time ago and will return in September for some more days of enjoying nature.
Love Slovenia. Im from Czech Republic and its just 6 hours ride to Piran. Its very beautifull, but moutains....ah man i did lot of ferratas over there. So beautifull.
Living just 50 km next to the Austrian-Slovenian border in Graz, Austria, looking out of my window I see the Pohorje, a 1500 m / 5000 ft high mountain next to Maribor. In my youth the adriatic see was mentally associated with vacation in (the former) Yugoslavia. After the Slovenians independence a customer of us brought up a new branch in Slovenia. When visiting their new shop in Koper on a 21st of december and suddenly eating my lunch at the quai looking at the rushing water I realized that Slovenia is much more than tourism. There are people living here! It's their country, not the tourists country. Today I still love to make daytrips to Slovenia! 🥰
Slovenian here, living 50 km south of the Austrian border. Incidentally, I was on a day-trip to Graz yesterday (took my daughter to a concert). Always a pleasure to visit the city! We also enjoy going on holidays to the Hohe Tauern National Park, to Tyrol and to other beautiful places in Austria.
@@jurekvakva Well, assuming which concert it was, probable we could have met yesterday... 😉
@@rome0610 - she listened to the Music of Hans Zimmer at Schlossberg.
@@jurekvakva Ok, than it was another concert after all, but we still could have met, since I dorpped off and picked up my sister at the Stephaniensaal (city center). 😉
Hungarian here, Slovenia is a beautiful little gem of Europe and I think even within Europe it doesn't get the attention it deserves, I'm so glad you're spreading the love for this country as more people should know about it. ❤
Totally agree that Slovenia is a beautiful country. I had to laugh when a Hungarian got the chance to tell that another country was "little" ....a chance they haven't every day given that Hungary isn't that big either.... But in this case .....it is more than 4,5 times the area of Slovenia. A video were one could have a look at Hungary wouldn't be a bad thing. They also have beautiful places. Personally I have some ideas of paddling along Tisza....the most Hungarian river as it's called. Elevation difference is very small, but else how I don't know if it is possible to do. So far when visiting Hungary I've kept myself on land. Another must do video is to have a look at Romania ....specially Transylvania ...with the Carpatean mountains as a backdrop.... ...ooopppsss....maybe I shouldn't mention Romania with a Hungarian present ....haha....
@@Dan-fo9dk haha, it is not often I can say a country is little that's for sure. 😂 Although I didn't mean it as in comparison to Hungary just in general in Europe.
Romania is also really beautiful, definitely worth a visit if you haven't yet been.
Thank you 🇸🇮❤️🇭🇺
"Europe it doesn't get the attention it deserves" As a tourist destination, I hope it will stay this way. Too many tourists put a burden on infrastructure and nature. There needs to be a good balance, and I hope Slovenia will manage to maintain it and not be overrun with massive tourism.
I visited Slovenia in 2019 and it is one of the most beautiful and relaxed places on Earth, and you definitely need to add it to your Travel bucket list. From the cities and castles to the lakes and caves, it is the full surprise package.
Croatia here, we love our next door neighbour country and both my wife and I like to hop to anywhere in Slovenia whenever we get the chance because it’s only a short car ride away :) can’t decide if we like the mountains or the cities more - it depends on the mood we’re in :)

Slovenia is one for best European countries. Just amazing country, everything is tip top. Greenest country on the world. Clean rivers, mountains. Amazing people. Well done Slovenia.
I'm Slovenian, live in Ljubljana and for the last 30 + years I've lived in Australia doing business there. When people wants to know, what Slovenia is like I'd say; " WE have German working habits, Italian Heart and The Balkan ingenuity. Thats it. Simple, small, but special.
Slovenia has some of the best European scenery. 🇵🇹🇪🇺
I´m slovenian. Thank you for reacting to this nice video. Slovenija is a more known than you think. It´s just that we intentionally don´t cater a lot to mass tourism. So it´s way less crowded.
Please keep it this way. Some tourism is ok, but please no over-tourism!
I'm just thinking of the Bled region... 🙄
@@rome0610yeah, that's because nowadays all tourists that come to Slovenija believe they must post a Bled pic/vid on their social media. Bled is unique, but same goes for so many other places around the country that noone bothers to visit...

Been there riding my Harley Davidson for some time. Biker paradise for sure !
Slovenia is breathtaking and truly beautiful.. I do recommend Montenegro as well....
Slovenia and Hungary are probably two of my most favorite European countries I have been to. Absolutely breathtaking!
I'm at the border triangle of Austria, Italy and Slovenja. So Solvenien is part of my life. Crossing three borders in one hour is quite normal. Once Yugoslavia with cold war border today Slovenia without borders 😀
slovenians were always allowed to travel abroad, even during the communist period. it wasn’t behind the iron curtain. it’s a lovely part where you live!
Slovenija and Croatia are such beautiful places; Slovenia has a lot of forests, its capital city Lubjiana is a little jewel, food is great, and it's famous for wellness centers. The coastline belonged to Venetian Republic for centuries, and the architecture is fascinating because the Venetian style, as you can clearly see in Koper (Capodistria) Izola (Isola, island in Italian) etc. Small country, but definitely worths the visit
Thank you. Most ltalians come to the comment section to tell us that the coast line belongs to ltaly and we're gonna get beaten someday...
@@DamjanP-ik5bx No; we started a war and lose it; it's a pity those lands are not italian anymore, but it's our fault, not yours.
It reminds us what a war really means;
once, in a vacation in Istria, I came across to a little town, Dignano (don't know the croatian name), there was an italian cemetery, with tombs since the Venetian time, and it was completely abandoned, because there were no Italians there anymore; it was really sad, especially when months later I met on old man, in the hospital where I work, born there, that never had the heart to come back to see his childhood places after 1947. He died a few day later. That way I saw the products of a war: people ripped away from their roots, memory disappearing, grieves, new names and new inhabitants for old cities. Fortunately, you too appreciate Venetian style and Dolce Vita, so in Slovenija and Croatia I feel at home, even if I don't understand the language

I’m thrilled you also did a bit of a dive into my country. And yes, we have way more to offer than ambulances dashing through snowy highways :)
We are so excited to get to go to Slovenia in May for vacation. This will be our first time flying overseas. Thank you for your video
I loved Slovenia! It’s super tiny and have almost everything. Alpine mountains, plains, forest, Mediterranean type coast with palm trees etc … you can ski in the morning and be at the beach in the afternoon !
....yeah, how strange..... ....Slovenia has "Mediterranean type coast" ...........maybe because it is a part of the Mediterranean coast.....right....
@@Dan-fo9dk sorry for having imagined that not everyone on this channel is fully aware of the subtile distinction between the Mediterranean and the Adriatic seas ! Enjoy your day sir!
@@ren2704 Your understanding of geography seems a bit foggy. The thing is that there are no "distinction".... ....the Adriatic Sea is a part of the Mediterranean.....period.... Slovenia is equally much a Mediterranean country as any other country around the Mediterranean. Hence you can not label it as a "type Mediterranean".....as if it was some place/country elsewhere ....a sort of look-alike Mediterranean....
@@Dan-fo9dk I guess if you go to Slovenia, once you go over the mountains east of the coast, the biome is not mediterranean at all and I doubt Slovenians really consider themselves as mediterraneans... Well what do I know about the Mediterranean? It's not like I wasn't born there and all got my family roots right on its shores for centuries :p
@@ren2704 You seem to be in an urgent need of getting out of your limited bubble and widening your horizon and knowledge. There are MANY countries and a whole range of cultures that are located along the shores of the Mediterranean sea. Do I sense that in the background somewhere you seem to have an idea that the Latin countries (Spain. France and Italy) are the "Mediterranean"....??? That is a rather strange and foggy idea of geography and culture that has gone wrong .....a total misconception. Those Latin countries does NOT own the Mediterranean sea ....nor do their culture describe to any length what kind of cultures there are to be found around it's shores..
The Slovenians know very well were their country is located ....and that is at the Mediterranean ....period.... The same is the case with other countries .....even if they are not Latin speaking and do not have Latin culture.....like for example Albania, Turkey. Egypt, Tunisia etc, etc. They are all located at the Mediterranean ..... Sorry ....you better need to get used to the reality.....
Tiny but a true beauty, nature wise and people alike! One of Europe's most breathtaking spots.

I'm from Croatia, 6km away from the border of Slovenia and I like Slovenia a lot. I've been many times to Postojnska jama (Postojna cave) and I do travel a lot thru the country from Brežice to Jesenice always admiring the landscape. One thing I still need to do is to visit Lake Bled.
Thank you! I'm moving to sLOVEnia!
I’ve been to Slovenia in the late 80’s. It was stil a part of Joegoslavië. We went by train from the Netherlands, trough Germany and Austria. (Tunnels trough the mountains). We stayed in Bled. The first part of the video showed Bled.
Hi from Slovenia!😃 Here you can explore seaside, lakes, forests, mountains, caves (there is 14.851 caves), castles (around 1000 castles, manors, mansiones and ruins) and more. Welcome!
Slovenia is the definition of an awesome country. You say: "this is hella underrated, yeah!" It really is a hidden gem. Especially in the western part of Europe it is less well known compared to central and eastern Europe. Slovenia has the mountains in the north west, it has the south western coastal area with lots of historic Venetian influence and great grape fields, and it has the lush green forested areas toward the south east.
I live in The Netherlands but really love to go to Slovenia on holidays. In my experience, Piran is a beautiful coast town with good food and a great Adriatic coast vibe, which you can also find in Croatia. Hiša Franko is highly recommended, my dinner there was amazing and especially something different than French or Italian cuisine. Ljubljana indeed feels like a small town. Many capitals don't feel like the rest of the country, that is less so in Ljubljana, although it is really different from Maribor, the second city.
U pronounce it pretty well! ❤
Greetings from Slovenia!
Bled is most beautifull place in Slovenia. I feel sorry for swans, there was none last time I was there. Slovenia got all 4 seasons and was most advance Yugoslavian republic, even then they were 50 years from rest of us...
I did the Parenzana route some years ago, it's considered a bike route but I believe it's better to do it on foot. The Slovenian part is absolutely fantastic, great infrastructure and it goes along a beautiful coastline. Riding there was a wonderful experience. Unfortunately the Croatian part was very underdeveloped and you could barely call it a bike route. I some parts the path was so full of rocks that I had to walk for long stretches, and in other places the paths were so muddy it was impossible to even walk because the mud would get stuck in the wheels' mudguards.
But the country is beautiful and the people, both in Slovenia and Croatia were very nice (except for that one border guard. I didn't know Croatia wasn't in the Schengen zone yet and was rudely reminded when I tried to cross the border without checking in the customs control)
if you’re into pristine landscape, definitely put it on your itinerary next time you visit europe. i met many foreign visitors and i found it odd in the beginning, how they would stare at the forests or mountains… then i got used to it. people who live around the european alps are used to it obviously, but when they visit from other continents, they can’t get enough of it. oh yeah, and food/cuisine is awesome. because it’s a pocket size country, you get to ski in the morning, then drive an hour to the coast, maybe stop on the way in those caves or visit some castles and get some proper wine/meal in the karst region. avoid touristy places as much as you can
My grandparents came from a tiny village in slovenia very close to the Italian border. It is an overlooked tourist destination that is as beautiful as Switzerland but about 1/3 the cost.
My nan and pop where from Slovenia, moved to Australia during or a bit after the war
May I ask which war? WW2 or 1991?
Living just 50 km from the border in Graz, Austria, in 1991 it was a very oppressive feeling to literally and actually watch our neighbors war...😟
@@rome0610 ww2, I was actually born in 1991 so it can't have been that one
@@telkicelstascal8875 Thanks for clarification, I associated "nan" with "grandma", but "pop" rather with "father", so both could have been possible.
In 1991 we met a guy who fled from decaying Yugoslavia. Even for us it was a hard and depressing time, like once he came out of our amateur radio station and told us in a very silent tone: "Yesterday my father got killed." In one of our long talks he asked: "My mother is Slovenian, my father Serbian and I was raised in Croatia. Now tell me, what am I?" He now lives in Canada.

I have been to Slovenia in winter. Unfortunately it was so hot it felt more like April or May, so no snow except on the highest Alpine peaks. I loved it, Slovenia has tons of easily accessible attractions and beautiful landscapes, huge caves and friendly people. In terms of cleanliness and organization it felt more like Austria than Italy but of course with its own identity.
Climate change. When I was a kid (now I'm close to 40) there was always a lot of snow.

Slovenia was one of the first countries to join the EU after the collapse of Yugoslavia. Thus, Slovenia was the first of the ten countries that joined the European Union to adopt the euro on May 1, 2004.
well it was the first ex yugoslavian country to join the eu, and the only other country to have joined is croatia
I had a Slovenian friend who spoke a perfect Italian in addition to Slovene. They try to preserve those bilingual minorities who also speak Hungarian and Italian.
most people in the western region speak italian in addition to slovenian. it’s not surprising. part of my family is from there and when i was a kid they only watched italian tv channels + many people work in triest etc

Hello! I am a native Slovenian, from Ljubljana, and I can assure you that my country - although small - is truly a hidden gem. It is not a big name among its European neighbors, so it is also underrated and unknown to many. You know what they say: poison and perfumes come in small bottles, but beer and wine come in barrels.😉You also don't see gems until you find them and dig them up. There are many videos about Slovenia from various travelers, but for me the best ones are from the "Wolters World" channel. He is American and you can get info from him from an American perspective. It really describes everything in detail; from food, transportation, attractions, etiquette, to do's & don'ts. Greetings from Ljubljana - the green capital. 👋😎

It can't be that bad, if you have to fly in, you can easily pick an airport in neighbour country. I do Slovenia - USA route quite often and for the most part, I pay around 400€/$ for a round trip. It does depend on a season though.
@@jaybogataj the cheapest flights I can find are A$2854 return on a 24-hr flight. Slovenia looks beautiful in a way I’ve never seen in person, but here in Australia it’s so much more affordable to go to Asia and the South Pacific. It will happen… 🇸🇮🇦🇺
Hi there slovene here. Slovenia is a hidden jam but I hope it stay that way I do not want to see so many tourists like Venece or Dubrovnik ( that is by the way almost empty in winter with many buisneses closed ).

Old towns like Ptuj Škofja loka Celje are as beautiful as old Ljubljana and so on. There are 7 unofficial but historical provinces with its own traditions cousine dialect. Ljubljana might be one of the smallest capital cities, but as someone who lives in a city with about 38000 residents, in Celje, which is our 3rd biggest city, whenever I visit Ljubljana, It's just to big for my taste. But on the other hand, I wouldn't mind living in Maribor, which is our 2nd biggest city.

Add Croatia to this travel series.. Plitvice Lakes National park is just 1 of the amazing highlights it has to offer.
Anyone I've shown pictures of it has gasped a little and looked into going.. V similar to Italy / slovenia in many ways but much less tourists than Italy.
Bikes, Scooters, and nowadays e-bike rentals are the way to travel if you don't want to rely on busses/taxi's and walking..
Really love exploring an area on bikes, you can cover a wider area at your own pace and don't need to find parking if you find something interesting.
Waterfalls of krka too, same as Plitvice during all 4seasons is magical. Risnjak is also cool to check..
This video had a title about Slovenia as a "hidden gem" country. Croatia is certainly a gem ....but not a hidden one anymore. Tons of tourists go there all the time......

Hey Slovenian here did you know that in Slovenia we have 7 Official Diallects and 48 Unofficial Diallects. Which mean that from the east do the west of Slovenia we can't each other wery well. 😅 Štajerska by its self can hardly understand people from the North Štajerska and South.
We have 7 dialect groups and 50+ dialects.
Slovenia's shape is like a chicken. Ljubljana is the capital. Visiting soon end of this September together with Trieste-Italy, as well.

I didn’t see any fat people in the video .
Only 20 Macdonalds outlets in Slovenia
lol
only 2 million people though… that’s plenty big macs for everyone
I've been there a number of times and most of the fat people you see are German tourists.
Many Slovenian homes grow a lot of their own veg and they don't eat much junk food or processed food so the average diet is fairly healthy.
