    In this episode I put the Lost Uber Driver XL through the paces in 2-6’ surf. The testing began in the ocean with 2-6’ surf before we traveled for more board testing in the pool at BSR Surf Resort in Waco, TX.
    The Uber Driver first came out in 2018 as a small wave performance board. Earlier this year for 2019 Matt made some revisions to the original Uber Driver to make it faster in small gutless surf. After making those revisions he added Uber Driver XL for what he calls the “Bro Dimensions.” The UD XL suits the bigger guy or average weekend warrior surfer that wants a little more foam under foot in a shorter, wider, thicker package that can still rip.
    The UD XL is legit in my book…. it’s fast, forgiving, and it offers great flow through maneuvers. The extra foam in the XL dimensions is distributed very well and offered excellent performance in 2-6’ surf. You East coast guys that like shredding 1-2’ surf on boards with a HPSB outline will be stoked on the UD XL.
    I am putting the UD XL in the Small Wave Performance Category as a Favorite of mine for 2019. I highly recommend it for surfers that want that HPSB outline to Grovel from the low end intermediate - advanced level surfers. For surfers that range from advanced - pro level I recommend the 2019 Uber Driver for a little more sensitivity and responsiveness out of their sled.
    Custom Surfboard Dimensions:
    Diamond CW: 5’5” x 19 x 2.3 Liters 25.7 (board weight with traction 4.75 lbs no fins)
    PU/Poly: 5’5” x 19 x 2.3 Liters 25.7 (board weight with traction 5.50 lbs no fins)
    Diamond Carbon Wrap weight with Beta 2.0 R8 side fins and R6 center fin = 5.15 lbs
    My Height: 5’9”
    My Weight:160 lbs or 72.57 kg

    I'm 6'2 and 210 pounds and my main everyday board is a 6'4 43 litre uber driver xl, I absolutely love it, easy to catch waves and easy to turn, it's very user friendly, I surf as good as I can surf on it. Great work Lost !!!

      @@michaellamirand7268 sorry for the 5 month late reply, I somehow missed your comment. I've actually gone down to a 6'2 40 litres uber driver xl, I rode the 6'4 for a longtime but started to feel it was too long on the smaller days. so I've just gone down to the 6'2 and I love it even more. But either way for a bigger guy these are so dam good. Thanks Matt Biolos, no surprise really Matt's a bigger guy too so he knows his big guy shortboards

      Where i live in Ireland they seem to be a great combo. Seaside for slack waves , Uber Driver XL for good wave days. I weigh in at 180lbs and i'm 6ft. I got the 5,10 in the Seaside & 6,0 in the XL. The water is cold here so we are in 7mm boots , 6,4 wetsuits & 5mm gloves so the extra volume helps with that extra weight.

    • @surfnshowreviews7777
      @surfnshowreviews7777  Před 5 lety +3

      Dr. Ivan Penna UD XL is a Small Wave performance board.., so getting in the lip vertical and quick turns in the pocket is what it likes to do. The Seaside is a performance Fish... not much of a comparison between these two models. The Seaside flies down the line and will offer some performance cutbacks and quick transition turns but it doesn’t rip in the pocket like a SW Performance board.

  • @daniisrael____6326
    @daniisrael____6326 Před 4 lety +2

    Seems like Biolos leading a new era with his ability to shrink down boards & putting the foam in the right places to keep the Lt !
    I do not see anyone does that better , gives us the chance to ride shorter boards and keeping them performance not more of being only grovellers ! A modern high performance hybrid / groveller is the real deal today per small surf rather than only groveller / hybrid surfboards !
    Everyone are following this trend, he is making it work with his twists of foam distribution and touch of performance sides.
    Surfers should realize that these boards can be ridden 3-4 inches less and keep the overall lt, a good surfer taking it close to the standard shortboard height will be dissapointed performance wise, i’d personally would go between 2 ranged lt boards to the 1 lt less to keep the sensitivity & responsivness otherwise i could use that board as more of a groveller than a performance small wave.

    Noel, great review as usual. I mainly surf up and down the various trestles area breaks. I’m trying to decide between the Uber XL, Rad Ripper, and Rocket Redux mainly for a daily driver but also want something that can handle an occasional larger swell head high to a couple feet overhead (or a Central America surf trip once every few years). I’m an intermediate surfer, 45 years young. I know that’s a lot to ask in one board, but of those three which one would you recommend for what I’m looking for? Thanks!

    Noel, the outline looks like the JS BB3. You obviously liked this one quite a bit more. Can you compare the two? I have a BB3 that I like but don't love so any advice would be appreciated. BTW I am one of those right coast guys who like shortboards in tiny surf. Thanks as always great review.

    • @surfnshowreviews7777
      @surfnshowreviews7777  Před 5 lety

      rippert The BB3 really doesn’t go that good in 1-2’ slop from my experience... seems to have too much rocker. It didn’t have the X Factor in small surf with their HYFI tech. However the BB3 felt good in 3-5’ surf.... The UD XL carries more speed and offers similar performance in 1-5’ surf. So the UD XL out performs the BB3 in 1-2’ surf and i liked it better than the BB3 in overhead surf too.

      Antonio Michael This UD XL has a fuller rail compared to the 2018 UD. Paddles a bit better due to a little less rocker and a tad more width. The fuller rail felt good too... Hi Noel - I've been surfing for 16 years and get out 2-4x per week on local So Cal beach break. Used to surf regular 6 ft 18.1/4 thrusters but last 18 months mostly been riding a Lost Puddle Jumper 5'6 (i'm getting older). With that said, I would say I remain frustrated with a lot of inconsistency in my surfing. Local spot is mostly walled beach break so need to get up and down the line really fast and if my feet aren't perfect immediately then the wave closes out. What do you recommend that can help me get down the line faster in super fast beach break that's usually knee to head high? I think something that can generate a lot of speed even if foot placement isn't perfect every time on the pop-up. Rad Ripper? Uber XL? I'm 5'9 170. Thanks man really appreciate it.
