- Our fleet of heritage locomotives is growing again as we unveil CSX Locomotive 1972, a tribute to the Family Lines System! The #ONECSX team in Waycross, GA recreated this unit to celebrate the special time from 1972-1982 when the Seaboard Coast Line, Clinchfield and L&N railroads were marketed as one. Eventually merging to become the Seaboard System Railroad, and ultimately the CSX we know today, the Family Lines System represents an integral part of our railroad’s rich history.
You don’t really realize how many different smaller railroad systems really make up CSX, until you look at it all spread out, and look at all these new Heritage Units they’ve made. CSX stands for CHESSIE SEABOARD and the X meaning CONSOLIDATED. In my time of life, I’ve only seen CSX. Conrail, Chessie Sustem, Seaboard System, C&O, and B&O, all way behind me! I live about 7 miles from the Ohio River line, which is an old B&O line. It runs from Wheeling WV, to Huntington WV, a bout 256 miles of track, so when I seen the B&O new heritage unit, I was like oh wow, that would be awesome to see on that line. Matter of fact there’s an old small railroad bridge that goes over the road in Point Pleasant WV. Near Krodel park. It actually still says Baltimore and Ohio on the lower frame of it. I thought boy what picture for a calendar, or railroad magazine, worth 1000 words to have the new B&O heritage unit pause momentarily right on that small B&O bridge with the old name Baltimore and Ohio right under it!
be fr nobody really read all this
@@kralikz4839short attention span
@@kralikz4839 i am gen z and i read all of that in less than two minutes. you are gen alpha and you couldn't even wait for tiktok to load.
I read it that’s really cool

I was a little baby when these paint schemes came out in the 80's, good to see this back after more than 30 years on the shelf!
Nice job once again to the Waycross Paint Shop Crew who hit it out of the park! KABOOM from Laurel, Delaware USA.
11 heritage units! Excellent work
I love the way you guys are making these heritage units. Reminder to you railfans just like me, if your complaining still, keep in mind this is a railroad, a strong railroad that can and wont stop painting these heritage units in the way they plan, they are doing a better job than bnsf right now so appreciate what CSX Gives because these units are staying the way they are. Anyways nice job Waycross Team, i cant wait for what you guys pull off next!
While 1972 may not be one of my favorites among the units, it is still a great looking unit. Props to the Waycross team for putting this unit out
What’s your favorite one
so far among the units so far they're 1827 (b&o), 1869 (c&o), 1871 (acl), 1897 (monon), and 1836 (rf&p)
@@Austinxddd None of them. My sketches are as good theirs!
something i don't think a lot of people consider is that the csx fade might look dissatisfying to some but it makes their heritage units unique. sure, being fully painted would've been nice but i think it would've just fallen back in line with ns and up's heritage units, not to say they look bad but there's just not a tell-tale sign it's proudly owned by a railroad.
I was 9 years old when I saw the family line system. In Waco Texas
One of those other smaller railroads was the Durham & Southern Railway. It ran from Durham to Dunn, and yall still use half of the trackage between Durham and Apex. I feel like yall should make a heritage unit for that because, well… idk it’s cool
nice looking locomotive, i am fan of C&O, B&O and Chessie hertiage units since i worked on former B&O and C&O lines
Wow! Looks great. It brings back a lot of memories.
All the Heritage units look amazing!
Cap
Not all of them but this one looks amazing. the paint scheme look close to the real thing
Very nice. I'm waiting with anticipation for the Pere Marquette. I will be very impressed to see what you do for it as I see several options.
Let’s hope it’s the E unit livery
@@Chescat124 only thing is it would look odd with the way CSX is making them. If they did it in the style of the Huron & Eastern it would look better.
Doubt it. The E-unit livery on PM is essentially a variation on the C&O colors, with the square PM herald in front. If CSX goes for a truly authentic PM color livery, it will be the color livery of the only surviving PM diesel locomotive, Pere Marquette SW-1 no. 11, which is at the B&O Museum.
@@kristoffermangila actually, the C&O scheme that is on 1869 is not inspired from PM. It's actually a combination of the B&O and C&O from the early 60s. It combined the blue with grey from B&O with the blue and yellow upper pinstripe that C&O had.
@@AlcoLoco251 then what about the livery of the Pere Marquette streamliner that @SillyAhhF40PH is hinting at?
I am from austria and my big dream is to drive with such locomotives in the us, i hope that dream comes true at some day :)
They're still hiring, you either need to love what you do or love who you do it for. It's a hard, depressing life that'll take your life in more ways than one but for some it's worth it
for me its worth for sure =) Got that dream since i could think. I hope that companies hire foreigners like me.@@intermodalman123
It looks beautiful. Probably one of my favorite ones
Nice job to your Waycross Paint Shop crew they hit this one out of the park this unit looks amazing I cannot wait to see it out on the road
Great job!
Another beautiful unit good work csx
This is probably one of my favorite HUs you’ve done so far CSX! Looking forward to more masterpieces soon!
Nice job guys! keep up the good work!
Can't wait to see CSX 1852
Keep up the awesome work on the csx heritage units
But why did they keep on ruining the heritage units with the fade on front of the locomotive
@@brendanpowell6613stop being a foamers
Amazing job on this heritage unit. I cant wait for the Pere Marquette.
Cap
@@sleepeman26 Why do you keep saying cap to everybody?
@@thenewstuffsucks5000 Cap is Gen Alpha slang for when someone is lying. Just ignore them.
@@TrainsAreReallyCool Got it thank you
So, what do you think the Pere Marquette livery would be... the livery used by the streamliner (which was a variation of the C&O passenger livery of that time), or the historic black with Venetian Yellow lettering, like that used on #PM1225 and other PM steam locomotives?
Looks amazing!
You guys should do a spirit unit on the worlds chefs like honor of our united chefs.
IMO this is the best one
Nice to see footage taken by Dennis Paulson of Howell yard back in 1985. That video is on my channel. Love the engine! Hope to catch it here on the CE&D sub.
I really like this one. It’s nice to see a different shade of gray. I’m hopeful we’ll see units paying respects to the Georgia and West Point railroads as part of the program
Ok this is the best so far.
Very impressive.
I like how the Seaboard paint blends the L&N red Clinchfield gold and Seaboard gray
That’s awesome, and crazy!!
Great looking engine
majestic from you guys.
Awesome
This was a great but my favorite is the conrail heritage unit
Another Beauty fellas
I’m ready for Western an Maryland
Hopefully to see it on the Rails in Lakeland sometime
This optimist prime train
Thank you for the information, you guys are the best, @CSXOfficial.
Please put the "We're Pulling for You" phrase on the Seaboard Coast Line unit when you get to that. Now that this unit is out, of all the paint schemes that's part of the bowline history, the Seaboard Coast Line black and yellow scheme remains to come.
But the Seaboard Coast Line "We're pulling for you" lettering is on the cab area and the CSX fade is most likely going to ruin it.
@@MystiCmeshtool YA SAID IT!
@@MystiCmeshtool doesn't mean that they can't put it somewhere else, even if it isn't historically accurate. And maybe for fun they can put it on the cab anyway.
@@bowlinerailfan then they will be just doing stuff
@@jonathanlafferty2271dang, we finally found a good reason for them to be fully painted
Heritage Units website revealed this before you guys somehow lol
Has CSX put out a list of the ones we’re getting? I’d love to know
There is one floating around on Google and you can search it up (I think) but it’s not fully confirmed to be a list of confirmed HUs I believe
@@Blaze06I gotcha. I’m just hoping we get a lot of the smaller railroads they don’t specifically mention
@@Andrew-ue9ci I saw a list somewhere online but I don't think its real. It listed MKT as a unit but that railroad has nothing to do with CSX. Union Pacific bought them out. Also the list was missing a bunch of railroads part of csx's heritage. (Maine central, Gilford rail system, Charleston and West Carolina, Detroit and huron, Pennsylvania, New Haven, Gransville midland, Durham and southern, And possibly more). So I dont know. I wish csx would do that.
Is it true ita being put on M605? I really wanna see that Family Lines Grey, Red n Gold!
They should do a clinchfield heritage unit
Y’all need to make your own song Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern have, but great looking locomotive!!
Will Clinchfield and Western Maryland heritage units be made?
When Pere Marquette one?
My heritage unit artwork doesn't match your heritage units, because they as good as yours CSX. And besides mine are fully painted with the lightning bolt on the cab area which I don't own this railway.
Cool , but it would have been nice to see an EMD with the heritage paint scheme
Most of CSX 's roster is GE
@@freedomfan4272 I think he meant the older EMD's, like SD's & GP's.
Western Maryland?
What's an Family Lines System Look like?
Look up the family line system locomotives (L&N) (SCL)
Which one is next?
Western Maryland, should be followed by Pere Marquette
@@MidnightRailfancool
@@MidnightRailfan Are you sure? Ive been noticing that CSX Hasnt been painting them in any sort of order.
@@thenewstuffsucks5000 The only reason I say that is the 1852 has already been spotted in the paint shops in primer. The only other locomotive that's been re-numbered is 1899, which is sitting outside and hasn't been sanded yet.
@@MidnightRailfan So which one is witch? 1852 and 1899?
I hope BNSF or UP will have the privilege to operate that locomotive to California!
Meh well this one looks better then all of the other ones you guys did this unit is Fine i guess
Hi CSX engineers when I go to watch trains this weekend can you throw out a CSX vest out the CSX family lines 1972 heritage unit leading with the engineer throwing out a CSX vest out the window for me I am a client name Braden
paint the whole locomotive!!! in the scheme in which you are trying to honor!
Ok that's cool, now paint the cab
They might just paint them fully after they finish with them. OR the not fully painted part is a wrap
@@Chescat124 A video on CSX 1287 said they're not repainting the cab area!
csx heritage units are amazing like they are. there is no need to make it more foamy and paint the cab.
@@agonecrescent6189 No they're not
@@agonecrescent6189 F.Y.I, we're not foamers. YOU DIVA OF BREAK DANCING DINOSAUR BONES!
These heritage units could’ve been really special, and rivaled those of NS……had CSX not insisted on ruining them with the horrid CSX mess on the noses. As we said back in school with the ugly girls; “they look good from the neck down.”
yea like, CSX should paint the entire locomotive.
