Just want to put this discussion to bed…
I knew with the nature of the location it was important not just to whip out a camera and film , there are signs up saying NO FILMING! And that’s exactly why on this occasion I asked permission at both sights explaining I want to educate people all over the world on the horrors and show respect… they were more than happy for me to do this and I also made donations at both sites … I understand where the sentiment of this message comes from however I’m not that person
im glad you did this video. it is important to remember and to spread awareness because as the world is going today ,you are right, it could happen again. i wouldnt be surprised if it hasnt already. its so sad and heartwrenching. a horrible horrible thing. i have left a comment of what is still happening there in cambodia, you can delete if you want. but what is happening there still needs to be known as well. its not about humans but about non human primate which are our closest in match as being human. thet have been being humanized in a way that is gruesome now and that is explained in my comment below. thankfully the bbc has done documentaries on it but i dont think the awareness has reached as many as it should have.so every chance i get i bring it uo to make more people aware.
You did a beautiful job on this one Matt. As always you are respectful and caring.
It was a very informative video, sad and tragic, I thank you for bringing it forth.
You made an extremely respectful and educational video about a horrific incident that happened in our lifetime.
People really do need to hear about the atrocities that happened there in that terrible dark period of history.
You did a terrific job Matt!!
A tragic story told so respectfully- let’s hope this sort of thing never happens again- may all their souls rest in peace 🙏🏼
Us older folk can remember the news reports and documentaries about this evil time in Cambodia. There was even a film called 'The Killing Fields' which received a number of Oscars and BAFTA awards. Normal people were shocked, horrified at the killings. Pol Pot wanted to take Cambodia back to year zero so doctors, academics, teachers etc were all targeted as well as ordinary citizens. Truly a most horrific time. Pol Pot was arrested and sentenced to life, after almost or maybe more than 2 million people died horrifically. Those poor innocent children who had no idea what they had done to deserve their fate. Pol Pot allegedly died of a heart attack but some believe he took his own life for fear of being turned over to US authorities. Such a demonic coward! I have no words to express my true feelings. Thank you, Matt for bringing this to the attention of those who probably are too young to know. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤❤
That was a terrible film
That film was based on the Cambodian photojournalist, Dith Prans, exposé of Pol Pot.
Dith Pran was a Cambodian photojournalist known for exposing the horrors of life under Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge. He survived four and a half years of forced labor and beatings, vowing that if he ever escaped, he would tell the world about the violence.
In 1979, he journeyed 40 miles to safety and did just that. He moved to the United States, where he became a citizen in 1986. Pran’s life and work were the subject of the movie “The Killing Fields,” which won three Oscars, including best supporting actor for Haing S. Ngor, who portrayed Pran.
The theme music to that film is so haunting.
I was a teenager in the 70s, how did we not know about all this. It’s brutal how can people do that to others and live with what they did. I have no words to describe how I feel about this. 😢😢😢😢 Matt thanks for making this harrowing video❤
I had just watched the movie The Killing Fields. Just so terrible! Your video is timely. It just inspiring to see that this country & the people survived!
I was born in 1976 and had never heard of this. Well done matt for bringing it to the attention of so many people. Absolutely horrific but that doesn't mean we shouldn't hear about it. The dead will respect you for telling their story.
Thank you Matt for making more people aware of this. X
Matt thanks so much for being so brave to visit & film this place on our behalf.😢
It must of really unsettled you -
And I agree, we must not forget history ever.
All of those people had suffered so much. And we do about our daily lives. Not giving them one thought, maybe it's time we all started to think a bit more about the past - And be thankful for the lives that we have. And the family we have and the friends we have.💜🙏🏽💜
Hi Matt, I cannot tell you how shocked, saddened, disturbed and so angry by your video. Don’t get me wrong you have told this horrific story beautifully and respectfully and I thank you for that. I just can’t believe how anyone can be so so gruel it just doesn’t bare thinking about. I can’t imagine how you must have felt being there. Bless you x
Very sad to think, that someone can ever think to do this to other people. Many thanks for giving us the insight about the history of this place.
So all of this terror happened I think from 1975 until 1979 when Vietnam invaded and put a stop to it. I was 5 in 1975 and growing up in school I don't remember being told what happened at this time in this part of the world. Thanks for doing this Matt 😢
Very well documented Matt and I've never heard of these barbaric tortures before. I'd rather be dead than be succumbed to this treatment. It's history and needs to be told. 😪
I hadn’t heard of this, which I’m surprised about at 67! It is beyond comprehension that people can commit these acts under orders of the government! As you say, the world needs to know about this in the hope that this can’t happen again.
Hi Matt just watching this video. It is important to film and make known about these atrocities because they actual happen in places in the world today. Children now are not taught these things in schools because they try to paint that these things were from another time and that the world isn’t like what it used to be, but sadly any war on people bring out the evil and wicked in people. It’s sad but I remember well this awful time. I was 11 when we had refugees move into our village. They still live in the area. Bosnia had awful atrocities too. Sadly we need to teach our children and grandchildren the truth as hard as it is. Great filming Matt. 🙏🏻♥️🇬🇧
So much information, so much sadness and you’re right, so important for each of us to know about. Thank you Matt.
Thank you for educating me!
Wow! Never really heard of any of this and cant understand why. Things like this should be brought to attention and I think you did justice to these poor people Matt with the emotional and sincere way you relayed this harrowing story. Better that than to hide it away - these people deserve to have their story told and be remembered. 😲😧😢
You are the best. Stay safe in all that you do. ♥
I have never heard of this and I was 19 in 1979. Thank you Matt for this. YES the world needs to know!!
Thank you for relaying to us in a kind, caring, and sensitive manner, this terrible period of history. It's important that the world knows about things such as this. Even though I knew of this, I did not know the details you speak of here. So thank you, once again, for shining light on this darkness to expose it to all the world and to everyone who cares enough to listen and learn. The thing that scares me is that the condition of the world right now is ripe with conditions that could very well once again lead to something horrible like this happening again. Hate seems to be rising. And the only way to rid the world of darkness is to shine a light on it. Darkness cannot live in the light. Thank you for the light you've shone here! Yet another reason why I love this channel. Peace.
You did well with this one and you were very respectful. I remember hearing about this years ago and couldn’t fathom the pain suffering these people went through. Thankyou!
I'm old enough to be Matt's mum and this is the first time I've heard about any of this, born in England living at the time of this in Australia,so how didn't I know about this?I've now been informed, shocking to say the least.
Told with such empathy and compassion. Matt, this was brilliant and such an eye opener. I didn't know about it, I'd heard of killing fields but never understood what it was about. I was born in 62 and knew nothing about it. Now I'm wondering if the song Cambodia by Kim Wilde was about this? You deserve an award for this documentary you really do. Thank you.
Thank you Matt for making this video. I'm 48 and had never heard of this.
You have documented it with such respect and the memories of those undeserving horrific deaths will be remembered and their lives not forgotten.
I remember this, an awful time for these poor people. I too can’t imagine how people do this to each other. Unfortunately torture still goes on behind closed walls of other countries.😭😭
This is horrific, I'm shocked I never heard about this, this was completely swept under the carpet when it came to education,
I'm saddened and disturbed by this story,
May every single poor soul RIP,
Great job done Matt!
Another great video informative and always good to see u matt on your travels and taking us with you really enjoying this series xxx
Excellent doc Matt. Another piece of gruesome history never talked about. Thank you for bringing this to light! Gord & Deb in Canada
This is going to be a hard watch
I personally thank you for this. For me not being able to travel at the moment $$$, you give me a window into worlds i can't see. This is exactly the kind of place i would visit. We need to remember that when we view the horrors of what happens in our world, we SHOULD be shocked and horrified so that WE DONT ALLOW IT TO BE REPEATED. Thankyou for sharing this! ❤
Thank you so much for making this film. 😢 you have covered a very tough topic in the most respectful and informative manner. I had sort of heard about this but like so many just heard and forgot! The thing that I found most troubling was that actually it was going on not so long ago but was never really publicized.
These types of exhibits are SO important firstly so that these poor individuals stories and never forgotten and so that this kind of thing never happens again- sadly as a rule we as a race never seem to learn from history which we should do.
Once again-THANK YOU 😢
Amazing video well done Matt 😊
Im 65 and have not learned of this untill your video today😢😡
Thank you for this video Matt. I remember watching the film ‘The Killing Fields’ in 1984 about the Khmer Rouge and it left a lasting impression on me. What happened was horrific and it is not talked about enough.
Matt this is such a hard video to watch but you had so much compassion & sensitivity. Thank you for doing this. Much respect to you.
Admittedly, I feel a bit desensitised to the atrocities of war - but this, to me, is on a whole different level. I’m so glad you filmed it. You’ve educated me - now I want to find out more. Cheers for presenting this, Matt!
I was6 when this started. Had heard of pol pot on the TV. But was too young to understand what was going on. You are right, the world needs to know and remember .
You are the best Matt. I respect a gentleman that isn't afraid to show tears about something this emotional, for humans that did nothing to be treated this way, especially the infants, it just breaks my heart too. You are a good man, never have anyone tell you that you aren't. We love you sir.
This was an awesome episode Matt. Thankyou for handling so well that terrible piece of history in Cambodia . You honoured those poor people and I thank you for showing us ♥️
Thank you Matt for showing this tragic event in our modern history. I have heard of it, but never knew exactly what had gone on. The world does need to know about this.
You are a wonderful story teller, you have empathy, compassion and not afraid to show your vulnerable self. Your kindness made such a sad episode easier to watch. 🙏😢
Very interesting and informative. BTW- I like your beard trimmed up.
This is such a brilliant video Matt. I have never heard of this and It is mad seen as it was so recent! It’s unimaginable to think of what was going through these peoples minds, let alone the actual pain and torture they went through.
I was born 1966 and can not remember being told anything about this. I can't understand how humans can treat other humans like this. Its beyond me. Thank you for making this video. It obviously wasn't easy for you and not an easy watch. It's blown my mind.
I didn’t know that this had happened. I think too much history is brushed under the carpet and not talked about and you know what people should know so history isn’t repeated. Matt you covered this sensitive topic so well and so respectfully, well done and thank you. ❤
Im so glad you did this video Matt, as you say it does need to be known. If we speak about theses things it is honouring the poor people's memory so they ARE remembered and their hurt and suffering isn't forgotten.
I was just an 8 year old so never really knew how bad this was, thank you for educating me, I can’t get over how absolutely terrible and horrific this was 😢
Very interesting. It's so true that many haven't heard of this travesty.
I had no idea what took place in Cambodia was THAT bad!
So sad.
I really enjoyed your video of the site and educating those of us wh didnt know.
Great video thank you for sharing this with us matt I bet that was a hard video to film. How could anyone be that nasty and so cold to do that sort of thing to people even more so the babies and children. I'm 42 I had never heard about what happened there this is my first time finding it out. I was on the edge of crying thinking of all the people and the pain they had to deal with. Thank you for sharing with the world ❤❤❤
Thank you for highlighting, this inhumane shocking piece of, our recent history. I have been aware of but needed to be reminded.
Thank you for this History I didn’t know about this as you said it wasn’t taught to us in our History lessons. How horrific .
.
I remember hearing things on the news about this incident. I was a child when this happened but I do remember seeing news articles about the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia and all of the atrocities that they committed and how extremely dangerous it was for reporters to go there to try to get a story.
Loved this video Matt so educational and informative so so sad all those deaths the children the babies men women i knew some of it about pol pot and the killing fields and other bits from education and growing up etc but so much went on that no one knew it should be told and shown all over the world so all those people those innocent lives that were all lost can still be remembered so so sad i cried too Matt To all those innocent souls may you all rest in peace xxxx
Wow matt 😢😢😢it made me cry watching this . I do think your right many will not know about it and should . I was 21 in 1979 and although I knew about this person I did not know the extent of the brutality . Well done for making a sensitive report 👏
Thank you so much for doing this video, not easy I know but you're right people should be told so these people didn't die for nothing.
Excellent story and needed to be said
An amazing video. There is a saying: ‘we are doomed to repeat the failures of the past if we do not learn from history’. No nation on this earth can claim to be guilt free from atrocities. That is the brutal and honest truth. Thank you for making this video and showing those who do not know the history about this country. I hope that you will in the future make more such deep and profound videos. People need to know and learn what has happened across the world to different peoples.
This looks to be an extremely harrowing video, but one we should take a lesson away from
This topic was covered in both Middle School and High School for me and I'm a few years younger than Matt and grew up in the US. I assumed this would be the case for those in the UK as well. I'm suprised to hear it wasn't a requirement to learn in schools there. I absolutely agree that things like this should be captured on film and shared.
Thank you for making this video, Matt. It's a place we've heard about but certainly one I'll never visit, so this is how I can see the awful places that we've been told of. Kind of macabre monument to history, but important that we don't forget.
This was such a sad but informative video. I've heard of the killing fileds before. The killing tree broke me. With my little baby next to me, i couldn't bear thinking about the poor babies who tragically lost their lives.
This is the hardest episode of your channel I have ever watched but the least we can do for these people is watch their story.
Absolutely Horrific. Thanks Matt for showing this so the victims will be remembered
It really does beggar belief. Thank you for covering this. I did know some of the history but I agree that most don't. I had a student from Cambodia. She was such a sweet girl.
Shocking and so gruesome
Great histroy thank u Matt
Hi Matt very sad awful time I do remember this especially when the film the killing fields came out .when you were filming the killing fields were there sound effects of screaming or was it an animal did anyone else hear it very weird take care well informed video as usual
I Have shared this video with 4 members of my family who don’t watch abandoned home videos but I thought this would interest them. They watched it and were really interested and it has also put your name out there and I have sent them over videos too know
Thank you for bringing this past history to light.🙏👍it's a reminder of how cruel humans are to one another.
Thankyou Matt. That truly was a heartbreaking video and one that needed to be done. I'm 52 and had heard of PolPot, just his name not anything that had happened. Like you say what happened to the people who just decided "yh We will do as he said we will torture men women n children for no reason and kill them also." I just don't get it. We need to know about this more... in schools even. Just coz it happened in Asia doesn't mean we should be well it didn't involve us so...
Thankyou Again Matt
I did find this hard to watch. 🥰🥰🥰
And yes it's horrible as it is thank you so much for sharing I never knew anything about it..
Thank you for being brave enough to share this Matt.
I don’t think you filming was disrespectful at all. You weren’t dancing/ joking around.
I was born in the 70’s and I was never taught of these atrocities.
We were sheltered from hearing stuff like this on the news from my family.
I agree that If We do not educate people about the horrific things that occurred in places, such as Auschwitz, then future generations will be led to believe that no such atrocities ever happened and God forbid, history may one day be allowed to repeat itself, because of the naivety of others. xx
Im 40 had never heard of this. A hard watch but very important education
I think my last comment hurt the CZcams overlords, so I've censored it:
I remember learning about this many years back. It's truly horrific. Seeing all of those faces just breaks me.
I ask myself the same thing you've asked - how does it get to this point? How do people become so hateful of each other?
Also, just to clarify - Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot were "communist" in name only - just like many others at the time. They really were nationalists and very anti-communists in their values. In fact, Pol Pot said himself that he wasn't a communist. They simply used the term and preached real communist values to gain followers. Just how politicians use the term "democracy" today to keep the masses happy, when in reality, there isn't any. It a clever political tactic. H*lter also did the same thing using the term n*tional-"socialism" and other symbols of peace such as he swastika. They're master manipulators. What they preach is never their own beliefs - only a tool to brainwash.
So sad and sicking
This is absolutely Madness😢😢. Some People are.......🤬🤬🤬 I dont finde any Words. When i think of the Babys and the Tree, i one Cry
❤❤❤❤❤ thanks Matt.
Very disturbing
How can humans ever treat other humans so horrifyingly? They must be beyond sadistic with no souls.
Wow never knew this happened. I heard the name pol pot but didn't know what he was. And to be honest I thought the kiling field's was like in the scene from rambo where the guards where forcing people to run through mine feilds.
The world needs to be made more aware of the atrocities done in it. Not knowing these things, not seeing these things, it makes it easier for people to dehumanize each other and look away from horrific wrongdoings. People need to know. People need to see. It's disrespectful to the victims to turn a blind eye to it. They deserve for others to know what happened, so it won't keep happening.
I will never understand that either 😢I dont understand!😢
oh matt how awfull this must have been to film .but are very brave .it made my cry .and made my think of my grandson who i adore so much 😭
Thanks
Thank you that means so much
Matt my man. That was all round amazing. The only criticism I’d have is that you’re starting to loose your Yorkshire Twang. 😱 Next thing you’ll be telling us you don’t have any Henderson’s in the house . 😉 Brilliant work Well done ✊🏼🥸 WAWAW 🦉
I don’t have any Hendersons in the house lol!!!
I think when I am being serious, I lose my Yorkshire accent. It’s due to being a salesman over the years and speaking differently to different people and I think when I’m trying to be serious my accent drops don’t worry I had noticed it as well.
@@FINDERSBEEPERS 😱Wot ! No Enod’s ? Omg ! You can buy it by the gallon . Which should last about a month in this house. Makes sense what you’re saying. Tha can tell thar t from Yorksha when you’re in the office especially on the live streams. Today’s video was exceptional. The production, editing was spot on. The presentation today was in a class of its own.
It’s gunna take something to beat this video.
And I learned a couple o stuff along the way.
Fanx For Askin. WAWAW
I could always understand what Matt said, but Andy was another story. Lol
There are no words 😞
Yep,says everything.
Part of my fathers job in the army, in WWll, was to clean out the concentration camps. This included the tortured bodies, the blood, the organs , the medical testing sites, electrocutions sites, and the gas chambers,...etc.,.. left to rot,...his army team buried them, trying to give them some sort of eternal rest...recording everything in paper for loved ones,... and so much more
...This was indeed very similar...😞 this wasn’t worse,.as you said it might have been......it was just as horrid and disgusting.
It was hard to watch this video, based on what I thought I knew he went through. But, it helped me really KNOW what he might have gone though...if that makes any sense.
It is one thing to think you know something, and another to see it.
It helped me understand where his pain came from, why he was who he was...and just how brave he was to carry on with his wife and ten children.
it was difficult for him. They didn’t understand ptsd back then. But I can look back and see how much it affected him... It helped me understand him better. Feel a bit closer to him. Which meant the world to me, as he died when I was 13, and never really got to know him in an adult level.
Thank you Matt.I was sobbing, but it was important that I knew more, not just about the victims of these horrific crimes, but the heroes. God bless you. 🙏🏻
I’m so glad you posted this comment because it really highlights the fact that things like this send a ripple around the world affecting not only the actual victims but their families friends and like you said the people that have to come and clean up afterwards
Oh yeah. I haven’t got around to see that movie.
What the !! How the hell do you do that, absolutely awful people doing what they did , why though, them poor people, so sad ❤️RIP people x
I was just 11 years old when these horrific events took place, I remember seeing bits on tv before my Dad changed channels, I guess he was trying to shield me and my sister from it, In a way I'm glad he did because what I learned today is just too much to take in
This is horrendous and upsetting but it needs to be shown . People need to know the history of every country and the despicable things that happen to educate our young into not doing these things . My heart breaks thinking of the children and babies . I carnt imagine the horrors. I look at my 7 kids and grand children and just wonder what the hell is this world we are all in .
You couldn't pay me to go near that place after dark.
Hi,I Didnt know Either😔,and I am 58😔,so awful,so tradegy 😔I am crying, so Sad for the people❤️❤️/Susan Sweden ❤
There is a doco called the killing fields movie it' covers it bless all rip never should've happened
May I add, if there is good, there is evil. Evil is wicked, distorted, twisted, sick.
When evil infests a person, especially one intelligence, it festers, grows when allowed, and creates death and horrid destruction.
This is why we should avoid war at all cost. Evil wins when good men fail to stand. 😞
there’s a genocide happening right now in Palestine 🇵🇸 you can’t get sad about past atrocities and not raise awareness to ones happening now! ❤ thank you for the continued content 🙏
Matt, I understand it was very informative. You must never forget. That's why we remember the past. But what I cannot comprehend is why any people today would go to this place and sit on a bench like they're having a picnic. What does that say about humanity? No disrespect to anyone, but I just cannot understand it at all. Never forget.
But I could never sit there and watch and enjoy myself and learn this evil that happened.
This is so sad 😢😢😢😢😢😢🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
The one good thing that will come from this video is For the young.
Er generation to learn from how evil Humans can be to one another and we should never forget. I Pray. for the souls of the many people who have passed. Never, ever ever forget.
Slaughter houses for our food are not as cruel as this.
