I was at nationals and seeing him perform was amazing on final stage had me in tears. So talented! Watching this right now brought me back to that trip and how much I will miss speech and debate!
Well, Triple, there's always coaching as a walk-on coach. Might not be competing, but you can help bring the love for Speech & Debate to the next generation.
Finished watching this when I realized this is your personal CZcams channel! Just wanted to say you're an absolutely stunning competitor. You inspired the hell out of my friends who went to nationals, one of them came back raving about how incredible you are, and man he was right to-- you are fantastic, and so convincing. Please go on to do great things, I want to see you on the big screen or something someday!
Absolutely insane talent, my friend. Miss you like crazy! Keep spreading powerful messages like these, because that’s our role as artists on this earth. Proud of you and your hard work.
I have no words to explain to you how much this means to me. As someone who wants to follow education as It's future, it is heartwarming to see such empathy and love thrive on that stage. Continue doing what you're doing. A Thank You from Portugal
Dude. Holy crap. Our s&d coach showed us this video a few months back and it hasn't left my mind in months. Absolutely phenomenal work, thank you for sharing this!!
I saw this in person, and I'll always remember it because it was the ONLY DI on mainstage to have practically everyone in the audience sobbing. It was a crime that you got 3rd...but the message sent was well worth it (at least for everyone in the audience.) Thanks for your work, and for sharing this!
As a current and new speech teacher I feel obligated to let you know. This performance is going to be shown to hundreds of high schoolers for years to comes as a showing of how to do DI. Thank you for posting this life altering performance.
i used this piece for nationals as an OI performance, since i havent found one even remotely close to being as good, and i ended up making it to the top 48 in my first year, so thank you :)@@MADDOX.FILMACT
this is absolutely incredible. gearing up for nationals in reno, this gave me some serious inspo. wow. this was one of the top performances I have ever seen.
Hey, Im in speech and debate right now! I do drama and this is honestly life-changing. Its so inspiring, makes me wanna be able to compete at nationals. Great job! Hope theres more to see from you!!
I got to watch D.I. finals in person-and this performance was the only one that made me cry. Considering the concept was less "sad" than the other finalists your performance in this was by far the most memorable, kudos to you!
best di ive seen in my efforts of searching 👏, recently switched myself to start interps over debate and watching examples like these shows me just how much im missing lol hopefully i can do even a portion of this kind of work someday
beautiful. I've been working on my own dramatic interpretation, and I've got everything down except for the physical part, I have actions I do at certain points but how do you know when to just stand there? Would love some advice!
Absolutely! Thanks for asking. I would say it comes from a place of “how do I tell this story to the most authentic, respectful degree” while honoring both the character and audience. You want the audience to be with you on this journey. So whether that is best achieved through non-verbal mediums or direct dialogue is something you as the storyteller need to consider. I try showing as much as I can, because nothing, in my opinion, can replace seeing raw emotion and expression of the body and the face, void of any lengthy text or monologue. However, there are definitely times when dialogue is needed. It’s all conditional and depends on the story you’re telling and whether telling or showing is more important in the instance. Stay true to the narrative, be honest with yourself, and tell a story. If you do that, you’re doing your job. Experiment.
Hey Max! Where did you get this piece? The version I bought doesn’t have a lot of the things you have. Not that I’m trying to copy you I just really want to find a larger version.
this is such an amazing piece and i’m planning on learning it to try and qualify to nationals.. do you have any advice for it? id really appreciate it!!
Hii!! this is life changing for me. Absolutely amazing and I was just wondering if i could get some help for my own dramatic interp? I’m doing a piece called Voicwmail from Zoe Price. It is about a girl Claire and she is calling her sister rachel who seems to be away for college and claire is speaking to rachel’s voicemail. it starts off happy and talking abt claire’s life and slowly morphs into this emotional talk to her sister from beyond the grave on how she misses her. Any tips would be lovely. You are so talented!!
Hi, I hate to be a bother, but I'm a beginner to DI and was wondering if you have any tips on changing accents/conveying emotions? I loved your speech!
Appreciate u! Ofc. In regard to accents, i would just encourage you to practice enough to the point where it is second nature. Start having ordinary, everyday conversations in the accent and be comfortable with being this new person. Don’t just go into a round and expect to nail the accent without trying it earlier on in the day and making sure your vocal cords are prepared. In regards to conveying emotion, just be real. Don’t imagine; have a conversation. Just be authentic and real and don’t push emotions and feelings that you feel like would look good. Do things that feel good and real. When you can understand how to just sit in your emotions, pretty or not, but real, you’ll have a breakthrough
lol my bad, when you preformed the ending you played it off really well you were crying, did you actually cry or are you just really good@@MADDOX.FILMACT
