"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" is amazing for a Christmas song. "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" has an incredible African spin on it honoring Kevin's heritage. Also "My Favorite Things" has a steampunk twist. I call it "Relentlessly Cheerful Kirstin Makes Her Goth Brothers Sing With Her."
They are the masters of taking songs we’ve all heard a zillion times (and hate love or just feel “meh” about) and turning them into something new that you could listen to over and over!
I was just gonna mention how much I learned to hate this song over the years but WOW! I can't believe how much I loved this!!
Totally agree with this. I really don't like the traditional arrangement, but their beautiful harmonies and precision timing won me over.
The very first time I heard this, years ago, Kirstie’s voice just sailing out over top at the end had me in tears. It was so perfect with what the guys built underneath.

We've all seen the video. Put a filter or 2 over it to help keep the SME copyright gods at bay. Also, stopping and going back should help.

Appreciate all of your sacrifices to be able to react to this PTX Christmas classic! All of the Pentaholics know that the label is very strict about copywrite blocks, and appreciate that you're willing to fight through it all to get the video out. Anything you have to do to get the videos through will work for us.
I agree with you on the voice separation in this song. I don't know how they mixed it differently than "usual", but like you I can instantly pick out any voice that I want to, even when they're singing in harmony with each other.
And like most Pentaholics, I'll take PTX Christmas music any day of the year!
Other reactors have had luck with a filter or logo superimposed over the visual - we have seen the videos so we don't mind.
Dont worry about stopping, you should stop as often as you like. Its a reaction channel. If they want the song without stops, they can watch the original video. Great reaction and analysis as always!

This is one of my favorite reaction channels. I'd love to hear what you thought about them in concert. I'm trying to get Tix for a show that's not too far away from me soon
I've decided that PTX are masters of gestalt. There are just five of them but they use harmonic tricks to hack our minds and come across sounding like a whole orchestra. The more I listen to them, the more I understand that inborn talent only takes you so far, and you need to work hard to transform your talents into skill and craft. There's so much more at work here than just having good voices--they've studied their art and perfected techniques to maximize their combined vocal gifts.
Next time you watch this, listen for what happens in the bridge, when Avi and then Scott do their parts. When the others come in, Avi goes from his last high note and drops down an immediate 2 octaves with ease. That never fails to catch my ear, and it did so the first time I heard this song, which also happened to be the first time I'd ever heard PTX years ago.
"How the does he do that??" Easiest explanation is KO swallowed a drum kit along the way. He's a self programming 808 machine.
Glad you are doing another reaction to PTX. I have missed your reactions to them. You absolutely need to check out their cover of Carol of The Bells! Some call it, "When does Mitch breathe" song and it is one of my favorites!!! Making Christmas is freakin' amazing too.
Yay! I’ve missed the Viking! This Pentatonix cover of Little Drummer Boy is sublime!! Please react to their cover of Gold. It’s mind blowing but you really need to listen to the original first to fully appreciate what they can do!
One where you get everyone again that I love is "The First Noel", lots of Avi (yay) and everyone gets to shine.

Not strictly a Christmas song ( although there are Christmas trees but, the recording of PTX singing 'Joyful, Joyful ' from their live streamed 'Evergreen' concert is stunning . Not sure if you have heard, but the first single from Penatonix's 2023 holiday album will be released September 25 (Monday). It's a new original song called "Please Santa Please". The album will be a compilation, "Pentatonix - The Greatest Christmas Hits", with 23 previously-released tracks and eight new tracks and will be released October 20.
This was thevery first song/video i ever saw of their's thanks to my cousin sending it to me. I've been hooked ever since. Great reaction. You should check their version of Carol of the bells & Dance of the sugar plum. Both are Amazing!!

It's time to explore firstly, some Halloween/fall music with Making Christmas and my Favourite Things, and then pick up Please Santa Please which is brand new and will be dropping in 3 days. They're releasing a whole new Christmas album on Oct 20th (I think I have the date right), but may drop one or two new songs from it beforehand.
Given that PTX has about 6 Christmas albums out, starting Christmas early will help you get most of those fave Christmas carols reacted to...😁

Next month PTX will be releasing their Christmas album that contains eight new tracks. One of those is an original called “Please Santa Please”. They released a snippet and it sounds like a great Kirstin lead.

You MUST check out Gold to appreciate each contribution by each member. I must have watched it 50 times concentrating on each member individually through out the whole song. It is brilliant and props to the arranger (probably Ben Bram??) also a genius. They took Kiiara's original and gave it wings.

What you said about layering voices to make one sound makes perfect sense, as pertains to Pentatonix!
I always love your PTX reactions, glad to see you back. I will say this as many times as I need to: We are here for your reaction. We’ve all seen the videos dozens of times, so blur the visuals all they way through if you have to in order to post. Increase the opacity, slap a filter or text over the video and/or make the video tiny in the corner of the screen. Turn them into a cartoon or stop every 10 seconds - anything is okay. We want to see your reaction and be reminded of how special they are and what a treat it is to hear them sing a song for the first time. (O Come All Ye Faithful is another not-to-be-missed Christmas song.) Thanks for persevering. Peace …
Absolutely agree. Filters seem to really help to avoid being blocked. Stop as frequently as you wish -- sometimes the pausing helps to avoid the blocking too. 🙂
Also, PTX recorded this in late summer in Los Angeles to have the video edited in time to release for their version of Christmas season. Yes, they're basically in hats, scarves and jackets, but it must have been hot for them, too. The pains they take to portray the spirit of the song are impressive.
There were moments in this piece that Scott and Avi sounded like they were singing the same notes, and again with Mitch and Kirstie. I suspect the audio engineer played with left / right placement to accentuate different vocal tambers on the same note. If you keep them all in the center, it could get muddy and lose the crispness.
What I like about these music videos is that even though the music is recorded, they are also actually singing. Don't just pretend!
Sometimes it just hurts to see bad lip syncing.
I so love your PTX reactions! I believe the effect of two voices not quite in harmony, but not exactly together either, is what other musical analysts have called "tension." It requires absolute precision on the part of each voice so the effect doesn't just sound 'off.' When done correctly, it gives an added flavour to the music that true harmony can't dupicate. These guys are masters at it. Will definitely be here for your exploration of their Christmas music. Skoal!!

I’m just so happy that they put the “little drummer boy” (KO) front and center for this song. That was a great performance and so simple background with the city skyline (I’m almost positive was the Hollywood hills with LA in the background, but could be wrong). KO is amazing beatboxing and always surprise us!
Christmas came early this year! 😄 I love Avi's ability to sing flawlessly from bass to tenor both with PTX and in his own solo songs! All of them did a great job with this one. 👏👏👏
As others have suggested, put a filter over it and/or make them the inset and you the bigger image. People who complain about filters, # of stops, etc. should just WATCH THE ORIGINAL and NOT the REACTION video. ALL caps emphasis highly intentional. So glad you are back with some PTX. 💜
If it's any consolation...I bet they were pretty hot recording it, too!
Something I've never notice with this song before, is when Scott & Avi are singing together, picking up after Kevin's solo, it appears that Scott has taken the slightly lower and more static part in their harmony, while Avi's has the more movement to it; this is the opposite of what we usually know them for, but of course, we also don't usually hear them singing so closely together either (I think maybe they did something similar in Mary Did You Know, but it has been a while since I heard that so I'm not sure).
I'm so glad you did this song, it's the first one I heard from them and it sold me forever. Mitch voice is so so sweet and angelical! Obviously everyone is amazing, and they have such a great dynimics even now with Matt. Looking forward to see more. Btw, thatnk to you I discovered Dan Vasc and I love it!
Little Drummer Boy has always been my favorite Christmas song and favorite Christmas movie. And when I heard PTX sing it for the first time, and each time since, it gives me goosebumps. Just amazing. It's even on my playlist. I listen to year round. ❤

It’s magical
to fight the copyright strikes, put some text or other image over the video. We pentaholics have seen this lot and lots and lots of times. The video is not so required. Also make the video transparent so what is behind it alters the image enough that the AI can not detect it.
I highly recommend PTX rendition of "O come All Ye Faithful". The spin they put on it is fantastic. Not what you would expect.

I love so many Pentatonix Christmas songs, but I also have to put in a plug for Home Free's Do You Hear What I Hear. The beatboxing and bass are especially good on that one!
They are singing in a slightly different register. While they harmonize, they also provide that difference /dissonance that you hear.
A couple of other great PTX Christmas Songs: "Carol of The Bells" (Breathe, Mitch!) and "Thank You" (a PTX original, where they lyrics are guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes).

Ah! I love this…it’s incredible✨but my absolute favourite is “Carol of the Bells.” 🏆 Pentatonix did it in the same time frame as this video…the people look the same. I think of the two videos/songs like salt and pepper…a perfectly matched set. (This one is pepper. Carol of the Bells is the salt. You *gotta* see it…It’s THAT GOOD! Trust me.)
The problem with copyright might be that you’re using the full size image of the video. Most reactors use a 1/4 size image and some of them put a line of text or logo inside. We don’t mind pausing, but we appreciate going back 10 seconds before the pause and then playing through.
Listen to their original song, Thank You. It is also a Christmas song.
Go find The Carol of the Bells. Mitch is remarkable. Check out his breathing at the opening.

Love your PTX reactions, sorry to hear about the copyright. You might try an obscuring filter; other reactors report that it's the video (and not the audio) that attracts the negative attention from SME. Also for your advent calendar, you might look for the audio recording 'Oy to the World' by the Klezmanauts. Yep, a Klezmer band playing Christmas carols. Their version of Little Drummer Boy is perfect in it's own way. (And all the tracks are just as good.)
A lot of reactors have issues with trying to put up Pentatonix. Their label is quite rabid about copywrite claims. If I might suggest a few things to help - what usually incurs the copywrite (not all the time) is the video. Sometimes it is the audio but the majority of it is the video so a lot of reactors, to get around it, make the video smaller, as well as lowering the opacity of it so you can see the background through the video, possibly even putting up a filter on it with like rain drops or something - and as well putting words or logo's overtop the video like 'Blocked Due To Copywrite' just like all over it. Pausing as well helps but you do a lot of that anyway, I think though the visual elements if tweaked might go a long way to helping you get video's past without incurring unnecessary strikes against you.

It must be incredibly difficult to not have copyright issues with PTX. Pausing every minute(?) to prevent that also destroys the continuity. I would fail as they leave me speechless. I hope you, off camera, listen again.

The frequent breaks and commentary in your video helps to avoid strikes. You can also try masking the videos with wording overlays as well.❤

On the harmonies here, yes Scott and Avi were harmonizing (and yes like you I love Avi's higher register).
Now I think I've left this list for you before, but I'll do it again, and maybe it will help you.
Now as you have found out, their record company is stupid when it comes to copyright issues. But most reactors I have heard from (about 25-30 or so) have found they worry more about the video, so if you will
make the video more transparent,
and place some text over it (your name, Pentatonix, “covered with text for copyright”, a logo just anything,
and then pause now and then to talk, it will help to keep from getting blocked.
Have you reviewed “ the Carol of the bells “? I can’t remember. If you haven’t you should have a look. Also Mitch’s solo song, Billie Eilish-- chez I forgotten the name of the song. You’ll find it. But don’t forget about it. It’s great 👍😂❤🎉🎉🎉

Oh hey, yeh, yt is on another censor rampage. They even pulled ones where the artist (Dan) blatantly states for his songs to be shared openly. Easy to appeal, but reactors shouldnt have to have to play that idiotic game.
