It wasn't a sudden decision, it's happened over many years.And I really wouldn't say it sounds the same, I could instantly tell the difference between Freedom Call and another modern power metal band.
I have see: Discography; Starway to fairyland; Song N.5: We are one :) But if it's from Crystal empire or Straway to fairylnad it's remains a fantastic song.
I think I've written somewhere before that these guys get absolutely ZERO points for originality- but when their songs are so much fun to listen to, who cares???

The old stuff doesn't get boring but if loads of bands copy the original the genre becomes boring.For example rap (I don't like it it's just an example) would have been original at the time but as the many artists came and copied the originals without changing it got boring and now only posers like rap.But with power metal the genre is constantly moving away, so the music is original.The sound is still great to me, despite being different to what bands like Helloween played back in the day :D
power metal = powerful metal This song isn't exactly freedom call's best as it is. Check out "Hymn to the Brave". That song is really epic and uplifting. Or just about anything by Rhapsody. Sure, I admit some modern power metal bands might be crap, but the main ones aren't, in fact for the most part the genre is still kicking Black or Death metal's ass, and will until the end of time. Hopefully some day you will be able to appreciate it for what it is. \m/
Well, you can like that type of power metal if you want. I like Manowar but i never really got into helloween. I think the genre jusy evolved. It happens to all genres so it's not necessarily a bad thing.
indeed, but Dragonforce trys os hard to go over the top in every song it kind of takes away from the naturally epic feel of other power metal bands, and also i think kamelot is less power metal and more gothic metal these days (But they are awesome regardless)- one of my favorite bands btw.

i'll say as ive said earlier, RoF has more of an epic approac, while freedom call in my view have a more happy sound, with some songs inspired by epic and holy metal :)

I just want to point out that someone needs to get in there and change what it means to be Power metal. what i mean is, for some reason people are starting to believe that some forms of thrash and death are power metal. Any band that sings primarily with a growl is not under the the power metal genera, especially seeing as most if not all of the bands that do sing this way lack severely in melody and the ability to make both the listener and the music feel epic.
