Apart from the fact that you can cook those dough balls in a deeper pan when frying so as to not shallow fry it (that's the way it's done immersed in oil and ghee so all sides get cooked evenly, especially at the center of the ball) and also needs to be pushed in a couple of times in the syrup and let it rest longer, it was an awesome effort at something completely alien! (Also smaller balls will help as they will cook faster, easier to manage and double in size anyway if you let them soak in syrup overnight)

Gulab jamun eating tip💡: it must be eaten after it is soaked fully in sugar syrup. Most people wanna eat when it's hot. People like me eat it with vanilla ice cream.

I don't know how different or good do they taste but over here in India, Gulab Jamun are definitely darker in colour.I believe they need to be slightly more cooked
