  • In this video, I provide an updated guide to painting metal armour with Vallejo air metallic. I demonstrate on an Agincourt era foot knight.
    The model is by Claymore Castings and available here:

    Your tut's just keep getting better and better. Would love to see an '80's era British soldier and how you'd tackle DPM.

    The sculpt is by Paul Hicks. Claymore Castings are a really lovely set of miniatures. Very nice work btw.

    I loved how you did the metal areas, usually I use the citadel colours for metal, even if I prefer vallejo in general. By the way, would you consider to do a tutorial on blending? Great work as always, by the way
    cheers

      87MrPippo There is a tutorial on blending (generally). It's under my technique series. Also, normal Vallejo metals are awful, but the Vallejo air paints are another story. They are excellent - better than Citadel in my opinion.

    Hi
    Congrats on another great tutorial. Quick question.How can one sort of break up the ummmmm monotony of a medieval knightly army. I tried going over the metal work with a sort of smoke ink or blue ink just before the final highlight but nothing seemed to work. They can't all have had the same alloy and If I'm painting individuals I sort of want an individual look though part of a fighting force- Ideas??? Thanks :):):)

      panzerleader49 Have you tried doing some black type armour? I did a tutoral on an Elizabethan soldier with dark armour on, but they were using it much earlier already. If you are going to incorporate colors, that's a good idea too, but you prolly want to start earlier in the process. Try mixing just a hint of blue or purple into all the layers you apply to the model.

    Hi
    Is the wash you use in this video just a black wash as I can't find anything with the name you call it (transcribed as Nall Oil).
    Thanks.

    • @wssmagazine
      @wssmagazine  Před 9 lety

      +Jim Fisher It's nuln oil. It's the standard black wash available from Citadel (Games Workshop).

      Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy are they the standard or miniature ones. I need to order them. they look so much tougher than my dick blick sables

    • @wssmagazine
      @wssmagazine  Před 9 lety

      I usually use the long nibbed standard ones because they achieve a finer, thinner point. They both work well though. Really up to you. I recommend trying both and seeing which you prefer.

    when painting knights etc, do you handpaint the heraldry on shields and coats?

    • @wssmagazine
      @wssmagazine  Před 8 lety

      +wcwindom56 Yes, I do, when relevant. I'm not a huge fan of decals.

    • @wcwindom56
      @wcwindom56 Před 8 lety

      +Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy Have you done a video of it. That is the part of painting figures that gives me the most trouble, so sadly I do use decals IF i can find some for the specific type figs I'm painting.

    • @wssmagazine
      @wssmagazine  Před 8 lety

      I have done various free-hand work in a variety of videos, which does include some shield designs, though I don't think ever specifically on a high medieval knight. I hope to do something like that in the future, but of course, it's quite time consuming. :-)

    Hi! Did you plan to paint a mounted men-at-arms figure from Perry minis Wars of the Roses? Would be really awesome!

    • @wssmagazine
      @wssmagazine  Před 8 lety

      +Falk Hvit I may eventually. I don't do mounted units as often since they are so much more work, so you'll have to probably wait awhile.

    • @greatwhitefalcon
      @greatwhitefalcon Před 8 lety

      Thank you very much for your reply! I will wait gladly. I am preparing an army of hungarian knights from Perry figures, and I have learnt a lot from your videos already. Thank you!

    • @wssmagazine
      @wssmagazine  Před 8 lety

      Maybe if I can find a knight with an armoured or covered horse, I'll do that sooner, since it's different from other horses I painted and wouldn't involve so much horse flesh (always tedious).

      +Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy I believe the mounted men at arms box set from perry miniatures has plated horses.
