Leaving Laconia 2024!! Heading to New York… Didn’t go so well!!!

- As the title says, we were leaving New Hampshire to head towards New York to visit with some family for a few days. We crossed New Hampshire in end of Vermont and had some absolutely beautiful scenery.
We made it to the New York State line and relatively good time and then things started to go bad.
Just outside of Troy we had a turkey hit the truck and the highway patrol had to come shoot it. Shortly after we’re heading across interstate 90 we had a really large bump on the highway and it broke goliath.
One of the suspension arms were damaged so we had to milk it to a pilot just on the road so that we’re not stuck on the highway. You’ll have to watch the video to see what happens.

Holy crap. Tough luck. When i was an apprentice aircraft mechanic in the early 80s. One of our customers hit a hawk while doing about 160mph Luckily he was the only one on board. The hawk came thru the passenger windscreen and splatted onto the seats and rear bulkhead. So me being the apprentice had to clean it up before we installed a new windscreen and inspection!! What a mess!! 🤮🤮🤮
In my rural area there are constant news stories of "people" flipping over their vehicles or driving them into houses.
Yes, literally someone just crashed through the front of a local mall with their car.

Unfortunately that happens almost every night in more than one truckstop in this country, it's worse in the northeast due to cramped areas for parking. Lived it and witnessed it for many years. Good luck.

Oh geez so sorry that happened. I hope you are able to get the parts you need and fix Goliath. It was bad enough with what you were trying to fix and parts you had to order, then had drivers hitting your truck and trailer. I just don't get them not paying attention or doing GOAL to make sure they will clear. It only takes a couple of extra minutes to check instead of having to wait a hour or two for a police report. It was a pretty area to drive through too bad its under a heat wave right now. Take care.
Yes, Julie, the scenery was absolutely beautiful until we saw the turkey hit the windshield. We’re very thankful for the parts seem to be available and they can get here as quick as they are. Obviously, I’d much rather be somewhere else but I’m very thankful that things are going as smooth as they are.

I was in that area of the country last September on 2 wheels and it is absolutely gorgeous.
Yes, this area is very nice to ride. Unfortunately the weather has not been Fairville for us to go enjoy ourselves while we’re waiting on parts.

I've traveled route 7 from NY to VT many of times. It's a beautiful ride if you don't get caught behind a slow vehicle. I have a turkey story, my brother was traveling south on 287 in NJ and a turkey came across the highway and it him in the A piller totaling his brand new Kia Soul. Also the one area you passed with all the cow and other animals statues , across the road on your right. That building was on an episode of American pickets...though you'd like to know that
Wow, that’s crazy to think that the turkey could totally a Kia. I did see that place when we went by. Had no idea it was on pickers.
Hey Adam and Wife I went that Route coming back from Laconia Rally 6 years ago Beautiful Through there I’m 30 miles north east of Syracuse Drive Safe my Friend 👍✌️💪🏻☮️❤️ Adam I was riding in upstate New York on a back road and a Red Tailed Hawk was on the right SIDE of the road and we were the last bike in the group when we were going by it flew up into my Faring I was on a 08 Street glide no damage just brushed it lol scary though Drive Safe 💪🏻👍❤️☮️✌️ NEW YORK HAS TUNS OF POTHOLES SUCKS 🤬 OMG IM SO SORRY Adam ❤

Count your blessings, that area is beautiful but as a former driver it wasn't much fun driving it in the winter. Pushing the petal in 4 or 5 feet of snow is a challenge. Great job

Your best view is just off Rt 4, going North of Troy. Take left at Massive power lines, and you'll see the entire Catskill Mountains.

Glad the bird didn't come throught the windshield. When I was younger an owl came through the wondshield of a Camaro I was in we ended up flipping over and skidded pretty far down the road on the top. I was in passenger seat and everyone was covered in blood and guts luckily it was all owl and not ours. Maybe Laconia isn't worth it afterall. Shrug

Sad foy your hardship on this journey. On a very positive note: this video was for me way better entertainment than the coverage from Laconia and that due to no fault of yours. Are you at pilot in Fultonville? There is a shop just about across the street, I can’t remember the name but they might be more helpful than pilot. I avoid truckstops like the plgue just for this reason. We have been saying for a couple years. We are so glad we pay all these tolls for the New York State Thruway! I hope you can get it figured out I know the struggles are real

Hey Adam I own 2 shovel heads a 1981 with 22500 miles on it and a 1982 with 8,000 miles on it. Would you recommend Amsoil ? I was always told when I was younger you shouldn’t change from conventional oil to synthetic after a certain amount of miles. Is there any truth to that. If ok what Amsoil products would you recommend for all 3 holes. Thanks bud any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. You take care and ride safe.
Back in the days there were a lot of rumors they just aren’t necessarily true today. There is nothing a conventional oil will do. That is synthetic will not do better. Amsoil makes an SAE 60 weight specifically for the older model motorcycles, such as shovels and pans. I think the only downside would be that if you have oil leaks, typically is synthetic oil will leak faster. At least until the built-in seal conditioners can do their job.
