Can’t imagine this being sung in a public school now. How far we’ve taken away :(. I think it’s great you grew up in a time when you could experience this in school.
@@Thinkonthesethings77 It wasn't just any old chorus, either but a large New York all-county performance of elementary school children whose music teachers chose them for the event: the little ones playing symphonettes and the rest of use either in chorus, band, or orchestra. The last verse we all did together, and I don't think there was a dry eye in the house! They recorded the performance, and I still have the record. It's what I want my family to play, um, ya know. :) In this country we do not believe the govt grants us rights. We believe our Creator granted us rights: WE grant power to the GOVT to protect our rights. How is it that I only learned that in middle age? EVERY American student should know that by heart - appreciate the difference between OURS and other governments and TAKE it to heart! :)
@@stephanieknows1668 we teach our kiddos the love of our Creator, and pray that they will love Him back. We teach them to love our country, pray for the leaders and be good citizens. It’s a blessing to live in the United States of America.
I haven’t heard nor thought of this song in years. I was sitting quietly before the Lord today and it came up in my spirit. I only remembered a few words, typed them in and there it was. It is so beautifully written and a powerful prayer. Lord knows we need His help and guidance.
Our Church Choir sang this hymn today and it brings so much emotion to one's self especially in this time of such turmoil. Be thankful for the nation we live in. Happy Independence Day.
I recall that in the '60s, Joan Baez disliked The Star Spangled Banner because she said it was too hard to sing, and others suggested a popular song at that time, Get Together (by the Youngbloods), be the national anthem. Time has passed. The Star Spangled Banner, for all the pregame abuse it gets, still waves. I appreciate the sentiment, however. If I were to choose a replacement, God of Our Fathers would probably be it.
You must go look up the history of the national anthem the only reason that the flag was still standing was when one man got knocked down in the polls holding the flag with taken out a man would take its place and hold the flag and when that man got shot down another man would come forth and hold up the flag until he got shot down and that's why the flag was still flying after all the bombing the national anthem it's a beautiful thing

While others have found our national anthem difficult to sing, I haven't (soloist for 30 years), and I've never entertained the thought that Star Spangled Banner should not be the national anthem. When I said (above) "I appreciate the sentiment," I was referring to what others had said about God of Our Fathers. I apologize for not being clear. I'm pleased that the melody of God of Our Fathers is called National Hymn. I sing it as such. @@janicejackson2016
