  • Howdy! On this episode I start to level up my old single wide trailer. It's a learning process so it's def not a how-to video. Come along and learn how this works with me! Thanks for hanging out.

Used a water level when we re-leveled ours last year, it worked great (the days spent under the house weren't great though...). Also, adding food coloring to the water makes it a lot easier to see!

Yeah, not having the skirting is a def plus for me in that regard and the higher back end was def much easier to work around. I did want to put coloring in there too but I just didn't have any sitting in the back of the pantry. Ha! Cheers!

Awesome, nice to see it coming along. It’s amazing how you took a place that needed work that would have scared most away and are turning it into a great home

Thank you so much for that. Yeah, it's been quite the journey from taking it from absolute insanity to take on to actually seeing the visioin taking shape. But yeah, in the end it's all about being the cheapest property with a structure on it in my neck of woods when I was searching so I couldn't pass it up. ;)

Just by hammering on those wedges it is possible to lift the entire unit! Any mobile home I owned the wedges or shims were doubled up. If you cut more wedges cut starting out with 2x6s so that they can be screwed to the edge of the bench while you cut them.Dont drop the mobile on yourself!!!

Thanks! Yeah, I ended up keeping the overpriced bundle I bought and did double and even tripple up a few stacks. Yeah, it's crazy how much leverage they can generate. Cheers!

Always a pleasure Paul! I hope you're watching Green Acre Homestead too since they are out in your neck of the woods I believe. But yeah, it's always like, OK, this part of the project should take a day......four work days later.....well that was 'fun'. Ha!

Thank you so much! Yeah, I had heard of them before but I had no idea how they were made or what they did but when I searched on video's of people leveling mobile homes it's how I was introduced to them too and the rest is history. ;)

Not bad. Use windshield washer fluid in your water level to see better. Double block you use 2 sets of shims. Don't use wood in between your jack head and frame. Use metal.

I personally have not had to fight such a battle but I did have to go through it with my mother many years ago. It was super rough for her but she made it through and she's still kicking and causing trouble. All my positive energy is being sent your way. You got this! Cheers!

Little skirt tip. If you are in a frost prone area, the skirt needs to be off the ground. If its directly on the ground it can lift the Mini home. This happened to one i just bought, and levelled. Its not level now, its a $3000 mistake from the company that levelled it just last year. Im going to try and do it myself now, i don't like trowing away money. NB Canada.

Good tip! But yeah, I'm in Washington state so we don't have to worry about frost heave out here. We just need to keep things off the ground from moisture rot since it rains about 9 months out of the year. Ha!

Thanks! Yeah, I was thinking about putting a recap monologue at the end of the second part to this aspect of the project so I will make sure to do that for ya. But for now, They were 12 ton jacks but if you go harbor freight I would think you might want to go with 20 ton. I think the lowest one could get away with are about ten ton. I made the level with random parts. I'll give a break that down too. I have most of that video already cut up so I'll try to get that up by mid week. Cheers!

This was incredibly educational. This is my first time seeing a water level. Please forgive my beginner questions.
So does it matter where you place the hose for measurements? Are you putting the top of the hose right under the floor joist?
Also I know you said you had a cement runner under the pilings. Are the bottom cinderblocks filled with cement? Or maybe its not necessary.
Awesome footage! Thanks for sharing with us.

    • @thesomewhathandyman9400
      @thesomewhathandyman9400  Před 2 lety

Thanks! Yeah, water levels are pretty cool. You just have to put the water bucket with the top level of water being level with the base that you want to level further away from the start and as long as the hose stays below the base level, the other end will always seek the same level as the bucket end height, or if the end of that hose ends up lower than the bucket side, then it will run out of tip until you raise it above the base level.
My cinder blocks are hollow. I've seen some people fill them when leveling up a house but I have not seen it on people leveling up a mobile home.
      Thanks again! Cheers!

My question is once I fill my can and my tubing with water do I need to plug the end of the tube
Can I plug it while I’m leveling and moving around?
What kinda connector did you use from the bottle to the tubing?
