- A surprising new government study on alcohol finds that even though one in three American adults drinks excessively, most are not considered alcoholics. Dr. Holly Phillips joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss the study.
I can stop drinking. When I pass out on the floor, I am not drinking.
Lol
Cheers for the Video clip! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you tried - Saankramer Life Card System (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a good one off guide for learning how to stop drinking minus the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate at last got excellent results with it.
Lovely Video! Sorry for butting in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you researched - Saankramer Life Card System (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a good one off guide for learning how to stop drinking minus the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my good mate called Gray got excellent results with it.
I've been studying quitting drinking and found a fantastic resource at Sebs Magic Tactic (check it out on google)
It’s funny but not when your ruining your life because you can’t accept the truth .in the meantime your health is deteriorating beyond repair
Reminds me of the famous quote from Richard Pryor: “I’m not addicted to cocaine. I’ve quit lots of times”.
He lied.
Charlie Rose is listening intently to figure out if he's a binge drinker or an alcoholic.
Lol
🤣
I'm not a heavy drinker, I only drink light beer.
If a person drinks only light beer, not alcoholic.. just gay.
How many of those?
@@Squirt69 Thank you, F. Scott Fitzgerald.. I'm gay and drank vodka and Bud but hated ANY light beers.
Sooner or later, a binge or heavy drinker will become an alcoholic.
Drinking is alcohol. If you drink it’s alcoholic.
not really
@@Squirt69 what a stupid take tf 😂
Ignorant thing to say! Alcoholism is an illness and never curable! Heavy drinking can slow down and, like myself, grow out of! I can now have a drink socially without feeling I need to top up!
It takes time. But it happens.
Alcoholics don't have to drink everyday
@Google Barbara Lerner Spectre you're right bro you're not an alcoholic that's fake news. Hey wanna run to the gas station for another 40 I already finished my other 3
@@brandonbrett4469 I disagree..if an alcoholic tries to quit drinking then relapses a day or two later or even longer they fall back into drinking every day again thinking they are not alcoholic because they have a few days of sobriety...its a ugly disease that lies to you and it patiently waits for u to take the first hit of alcohol
@@brandonbrett4469 but binge drinking leads to alcoholism it can anyways.
@@godisgreat5141 that’s exactly what happens to me. I will have 3 days off and think “see it’s not that bad” and then I will drink daily for a week or so and rinse and repeat.
False unintelligent statement.
There is no moderation for an alcoholic..Thats the point !
I hate that she is supposed to be an expert because nothing she said was correct.
This is so annoying. Alcohol abuse is alcohol abuse. This is splitting hairs and not to mention every alcoholic wishes they were not one. This just gives us false hope. " we're not alcoholics. Were binge drinkers"
I agree. I might not be an alcoholic, but I don't care. One year about a week before Christmas I woke up and I just knew I didn't want to drink anymore; it caused me enough problems.
Binge drinking is what caused me to crash and total my Bmw nearly landing in someones pool in their backyard. And alot of other things. So I'm with you That Guy, I also don't care. I'm 97 days sober and enjoying one day at a time...
There is a very distinct difference though, which was her point
No, you’re just wrong. Obviously both are alcohol abuse, but alcoholism and binge drinking are two very different things.
Alcoholism is pretty much an illness, a dependence on the drug. It affects your outside life.
Binge drinking is excessive drinking, but without the dependence. There’s no dangerous withdrawals that can potentially lead to death.
Hate they had her up there softening the reality if alcoholism. Smh
It’s the sugar in alcohol that can’t increase chances of cancer developing and spreading in the breast. She should have said she did not know the correlation.
It’s not hard for me to quit drinking. I’ve done it dozens of times!
Binge drinking often leads to alcoholism. Don’t mess around with it. :/
One is fun and one is sad.
Binge Drinking and cigarettes should be banned worldwide that is only solution to the problem
Oh you mean like how they banned drugs? Oh yeah cause that was really effective, wasn't it
Haha. Never read a more Karen komment😂
Fail
They ban cigarettes I'll go pick tobacco n make my own.
They way I always pictured it was is an alcoholic relies on alcohol to function and feels they need it to survive where as a binge drinker is someone who doesn’t rely on alcohol but can’t stop when they start.
I’m very low income and I binge 30 drinks in one night every week or every two weeks. I’ve sought help and found it, so consider myself alcoholic. I think alcoholism requires that you drink to excess, don’t find it easy to stop, and it affects your life and/or the decisions you make pre or post binge. Then there are people that drink every day and maintain their high at all times. Binging doesn’t hurt as much because you can calculate when the right time is to binge. Again, affecting your decision making pre binge. I cannot drink every day because I spend so much money and effort on my binge. If I continued drinking through the binge I’d be much more miserable. I understand the difference between being dependent on alcohol every day and binging once a week. But it all adds up to the same issue in the end
People who occasionally drink, moderately, and enjoy it know who they are.
12 pack a day keeps the doctor away.
And keeps the priest close
Sobriety taught me there isn't much different
i don't drink anymore...don't really drink any less either.
I think drinking everyday is evidently way worse than binge drinking once or twice a month
Thank you for this!
About to make a margarita 😅
I’m a 63 year old alcoholic. I never drank a beer on a Golf Course until I was thirty. Never drank the night before a match . Then I took a cooler. I’d play against my own self.
I binge drink after work( 8 to 12 bottles) and I’m at work 5 am again sober no hangovers .. difference between me and an alcoholic is they drink in the morning most throughout the day. And it becomes a problem for them making it to work.. soon they just stop coming to work .
You don't think this could catch up to you?
@@pool_removal it does eventually, but it takes a while. Often times they dont see the problem but others around them do. Not saying OP has a problem but in general this is how it goes down
What's the situation now?
You're not dover, you're just used to it. You have a major problem and are in denial.
You’re not an alcoholic until you try to quit
I think a lot of bingers do remain on a regular pattern and amount (for the most part) and stay that way until they are able to quit or until they die of whatever cause. However, if one is binging, that's enough to cause serious health problems. I think a binger should be defined as someone who actually has a craving for drink after a given number of days and who generally gives in to that craving. I suspect all alcoholics were once bingers. However, I suspect that some bingers never cross the threshold to every day drinking. I think a College student who goes out and gets hammered on occasion, but doesn't actually crave a drink, is an alcohol abuser, not a binger.
Way too easy to binge when you love craft beer. So many choices and higher alcohol content!
My binge drinking husband may not be an alcoholic but he sure as heck has addictive personality traits.
The use of the word moderation should only be acceptable when consideration is given to those that consume other drugs in the same fashion. For example; "I only consume "this or that" stigmatised drug on my birthday" or "once a month at the weekends is fine."
My personal view is that regular use every weekend, at the end of a workday and any other regular time where you are triggered to drink even in "healthy amounts" is not going to cause social issues but can be a problem to those that feel compelled to consume without conscious effort. Like when a person likes a drink when they read or when a certain program's on the television.
Drinking alcohol is a well trodden path.
Smart dude
Alcoholics are also binge drinkers where you been! Binge drinking isn't dependent on income... you've not heard of panhandling!
I drink when there's too much blood in My Alcohol stream, You've got to keep a higher Alcohol to Blood Ratio!
The difference is one Is chronic can't control the amount or how much they take
The annoying part about these assessments is wtf is a drink? How do you define 8 drinks or 15 drinks?
I live at Europe but i read how US authority defines it. Read a little bit my friend. I will give ounce so you can get easier. 12 Ounce beer, a small glass of wine and 1.5 ounce of 80 proof drink(vodka etc) are being considered by 1 standard drink by US authority.
Ounces, idoit.
1 drink is 1 whole litre of Smirnoff vodka
Ban alcohal.
When she describes the amount of drinks, she doesn't take into account the strength of those drinks. An example: x4 drinks of 2% alcohol volume, is not the same as x4 drinks of 9% alcohol volume.
Sonic I totally agree, nine shots of pure liquor is not the same as 9 bottles of bud light.
Or 13% which most red wine is 🍷

it doesnt have to be liquor but high percentage beers will get you there too. Especially those 4 lokos type of drinks
What's the toll on society? They did a good job of skipping that part.
This calls for a beer!
A vodka ad played before I watched this video. I think I have a problem!
life today is trash....hence problem drinking.
Alcoholism is progressive so therefore you can become an alcoholic I don't see the difference between binge drinking and alocholish???
Where's my beer
Used to drink a handle every night. ThYs almost a 2 liter of vodka. I still drink my beer once a week but ill never go down that bottle again.
2:00 Dudes a drinker haha
Cool vid. I also enjoyed the book "30 Days to Sobriety" by Harper Daniels.
"I'm on a whiskey diet, I've lost 3 days already"
~Tommy Cooper
When he asks how exactly does breast cancer link to alcohol abuse.. she just answers repeating the "fact. They don't even show her name or credentials in the medical field, how can they allow a network to present medical information as fact with no names credentials or resources for their research?
Don’t talk if you don’t know what ur saying lady do your research!
Bruh when I go out which is every Saturday night. I drink minimum 15 beer and then I drink more stuff lol
All people can be an alcoholic and or problem drinker. All.
Stop lying to ourselves.
Wow 8 years ago the interpretation was so different? now it's 1 drink per women and 2 for men.
A physical or mental addiction to alcohol makes you an alcoholic..... Technically if you drink more than one time a year you're An "Alcoholic".....
How I drink I have 5 or 6 pre drinks before I go pub/bar then spend like 20 get about 8 to 10 drinks if another pub/bar opens spent another 20.
My friends will then get two crate and we will drink into next day.
And day after
That just a night out.
A Alcoholic would bought about 4 boxes and 4 bottles of vodka. Would drink it into runs out and repeat for rest of they lives.
I drink all day everyday.
This is avoidance and I truly want help.
I drink between 8-15 a day. 😂
OMG, that is too revealing.\ I've going to delete that now, unless someone interviews.
I drink, because of my economic status, I'm less likely to become an alcoholic. It's all about economics. If you are drinking for fun, you are less likely to be an alcoholic. If you drink to compensate, you are more likely to be drinking to compensate. If you are drinking to compensate, you are likely drinking to compensate. Now that that i've touched native soil, I demand you speak to me. talk to me. Speak to me. I'm a gift. You just don't know it yet.
Interesting 🤔
Holly: a number of criterion. Pretentious, plural is criteria. Duh
Drinking makes me happy. It also made my wife leave me. Problem? Or not
Win/win/win
If you're single now, problem solved!
Jesus christ who are these people.
This is the difference between people with mental toughness and those who don’t have it. I love drinking scotch and craft beer. I don’t ABUSE it, however. I keep my mind on a leash and remember why I do what I need to do everyday- be a good father, husband, wake up early, work out, build my businesses, and achieve freedom. I ALSO know when I can go out with the boys and have 5-8 drinks, those nights are PLANNED in advance. I make sure I am not jeopardizing anything the next day. I love red wine with steak, white wine with oysters, scotch over conversation, craft beers at breweries or after snowboarding, coin margs when traveling, etc. you don’t have to hate alcohol, you just can’t let it control you, You control It, you have to build mental toughness, keep your mind in check, your body in check, your work ethic in check, your family time in check, your fun time in check and only when earned. But then again, not everyone wants my life, it’s difficult and super fulfilling. Want to know the quickest way to build mental toughness? Try doing 75 Hard. In fact, I wasn’t going to end it this way, but I’m feeling a calling to help: go to Spotify or CZcams and listen to “REAL AF with Andy Frisella” episode no. 443. His style may or may not be relatable to you but I promise you this, developing mental toughness is the key to confidence and freedom.
White dad
Uh oh
I’m a bingolic
I drink too but i am not alcoholic . I never drink morning haters kiss my 3 rd one
Holly is a hot doctor
