This match had me on the edge of my seat. Not only that but I guess this is kind of payback for Japan after losing back in London 2012 to Italy. What a great match.
Yah it was probably the most exciting bouts I've seen for a few seasons. Both the semis and the finals were all actually exciting too. First time I've seen an event where there were so many good team bouts. But it's probably partially because the Olympics are usually pretty poorly broadcasted
Matsuyama honestly performed incredibly well the entire Olympics but just fell short I individuals and imo got kinda let down by the rest of the Japan team this event. He was super consistent every bout that team event I'm excited to see how he performs going forward now that Saito has been falling off the past couple years

The Japanese team seems to fence very defensively most of the time, but boy do they have some explosive attacks when they go for it.
I really love japanese fencing, this combination of experimentalism and speed is just great to watch
